Sorry to rain on your parade (literally!) but it's not even the oldest club in the UK...Check out Skydive Strathallan (Scottish Parachute Club), which was founded in April 1960, and still does 10,000-12,000 jumps a year on weekends. Oh, and Netheravon isn't a club, it's a centre... (And they have a mandatory AAD rule now ) --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

I teach SL FJCs at a club, so I don't get "paid". I get to claim up to £65 ($105) expenses (travel, accomodation, food) for teaching a SL FJC. That is the same whether it is 1 student, or 7 (the maximum we take per instructor). I also don't pay for jumps where I dispatch students. --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

How does one slam in to a tree?
meatbomb replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I swap around 2 and 3 on my priorities: I'd rather have a student flare, having adopted the landing position, and hit something at almost zero speed, rather than try to land in an open area...also doubly emphasises not turning low... --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies -

If you wanna learn the physics of canopy flying, go no further than Brian Germain's The Parachute and it's Pilot. An excellent explanation of the physical forces impacting our canopies, and how to use them. --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

It may well do (with the help of a vacuum pump), but it's at the upper size limit. We have two I5s on our DZ with Pilot 168s in em. They're tight enough fits at that! Beware of stretching the container with overlarge canopies...seriously shortens the life of the material. --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies

Caught my first pilot chute in the face last night...
meatbomb replied to jumper03's topic in Gear and Rigging
I believe that the closing loop in question was a reserve closing loop...unless RWS have started fitting spring loaded pilot chutes to Sigma mains? So it probably was brand new when it broke...Sh1t happens sometimes... Hasn't happened to me yet, and I'm not looking forward to it...particularly if it happens on my Teardrop with the metal pop-top cap...ouch! --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies -
A tale of two different drop zones
meatbomb replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hehe... Sounds eerily familiar. Had a very similar situation at my home DZ during the Scottish Nationals. I was Jumpmaster on a lift, and the green light was put on about 1.5 miles short of the DZ, the other side of a river, on a windy day...(turns out the (visiting) pilot misread his GPS). I had a full 4-way team plus video (from a different DZ) screaming at me from the front of the plane to get out. I waited til we got over the correct spot, then exited with my 4-way team. All three teams landed on the DZ. 10 minutes later, I got called to the judge's room. The third team wanted a rejump! Apparently exiting in the correct spot, and landing on the airfield, put them off their skydive. When they were refused, they pulled out of the competition...oh well! --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Not necessarily...The pack job is valid for as long as the country of origin's, up to 180 days...there are many countries out there on 180 days or more! BPA Ops Manual Section 6: Equipment, Para 8 Parachute Packing, Sub-Para 8.5: --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies -
Hey Dave, Thanks for the response.

I went to repack one, and felt the pull was kind of hard... I applied around 20lbs of force manually, and it didn't move, so I got out my pull-scale to measure. You kind of a get a feel for these things when you do a few... --- Swoopert, CS-Aiiiiiii! Piccies
