  2. I went to Skydive Chicago last year, as we entered and I saw the facilities I commented "Damn!! this place is Disneyland for skydivers!" Rook, the staff and the jumpers I interacted with were awesome; I can't wait to go back.
  3. Rock Solid move!!! It's nice to see this kind of support from a dealer. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

  5. Definately a 10!!! My entire program was one on one with a private instructor (bodypilot1) Every jump was video taped and reviewed with how to correct my issues. I had one repeat jump due to spining, but he corrected my body position by showing me the video. In one week I went from student to noob skydiver If your looking for a good instructor, Eddie is da man. Stay Safe, Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  6. Last year the 4-day registration was $50 and tickets were $23 (If my sometimers memory is correct) Registration covered dinner for 2 nights, a t-shirt and beer. I would expect it to be more this year due to the price of Jet-A though. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  7. Yo Dude, I will be at the boogie also. I have camera duty for the flat organized jumps but I will make some time to jump with you. I too was trained by Eddie (I am also a coach) so I want to make sure I help his students progress as others did for me. To find me just check with an organizer or manifest and ask for Phil. 8. I don't know if this counts as a save, but I will toss this out: Good friend goes on a hybrid with others and is the hanger, as he goes into his stand the chest strap on one of the flat jumpers pulls through the keeper (mis-routed). He tried to gesture to the other jumper of the issue, but did not want to point an index finger at them as he was concerned they might pull. He then grabbed the flapping chest strap and showed it to them, needless to say the jumpers eyes eyes damn near hit their goggles (obviously an OH SHIT moment). He flipped the individual onto their back and tried to re-route the strap to no avail. Realizing this wasn't going to work and mother earth was rapidly approching he then just mis-routed it again throught the keeper, wrapped the tail several times around the chest strap webbing, placed the jumpers left hand left hand on the half assed knot, squeezed hard, backed away and then pointed his index finger and mouthed pull. Long story short the jumper walked away although was severely shaken up for obvious reason. So in a nutshell, CHECK YOUR SHIT!! Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  9. Well I pay mine $100 U.S. everytime. I figure the cost of a few jump tickets is a small price to pay. 3 years in sport; 12 standard repacks --$1200, 3 reserve rides -- $300 plus bottles , being alive to kiss my kids goodnight -- PRICELESS Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked

  11. Well I new there would be at least one (there always is). I will now add my reply that I am sure will be suitable for some sort of flaming remarks: I was trained by what I consider one of the best AFF-I’s in California. The day I graduated he left me with few final comments “You are now responsible for your own ass!”, I will not be there to tell you when to exit, get stable or pull, . I do expect you to get further coaching and to complete your “A” license sign offs in a timely manner. Your journey in this sport has just begun, as you see new places and visit different DZ’s ask questions, look listen and learn. If you are unsure of something ask someone on the DZ staff. He then gave me a rather serious look and closed with “You never have to get out of the plane if you don’t want to!! You paid for the ride to altitude, the skydive is free! From that day forward every DZ I have visited I have asked questions, specifically on EXITS!!! At what point do we as individuals start accepting responsibility for our own actions??? 12. I would like to ask a simple question to the jump pilots out there: Is there a rule or regulation that "REQUIRES" you to reduce speed, drop flaps and trim the tail prior to turning on the green light for exit? Please do not give opinions or other smart ass responses as that is not what I am looking for. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  13. Well, I am 6 weeks post knee surgery in which my Doctor told me i would never skydive again. Well safety day was this sat so I ventured out to visit my friends. Well mother nature continued to share her warped since of humor..... A great day to skydive. I knew that even with my bum flipper I could land without takng a step, but didn't even try to get on a plane (like my S,T, & A would have let me). I stayed at the DZ watching my friends jump and truly hating that I was grounded. Next thing I heard was the pilot yell, "Come on bud, let's go for a ride!" I put on a pilot chute and rode with my friends to altitude (complete torture BTW) as they were high fiving each other I flipped them off and watching them bail. My pilot friend winged over the plane and I watched my friends enjoy the sky. I exited the plane grabbed a beer; needless to say I was glad to be with friends but less than happy that i was grounded. It was getting late and I had things to do with my son so I said my good byes, needless to say a few folks asked if I would be there tomorrow....needless to say this is like masturbation without the payoff, hopefully I will see them in Four weeks!!!! Stay safe everyone, being grounded sucks ass!!! (note; Surgery was non-skydiving related) Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  14. Wait, that's not supposed to be as bad because I get anesthesia, right? They better not have lied to me! From what I have heard you'll feel a slight pressure.......In your throat J/K They will most likey dose you with some valium which will give you short term memory loss of the procedure. 16. Where as I am not an instructor, I listened to mine and followed the progression they laid out for me. I would suggest you listen to your instructors at your local DZ and do the same. I started on a pilot 210 downsized to a 188 and now to a 168. I took it slow and progressed as directed by my mentors. I know gear is expensive and making the change to smaller canopies can be pricey. But I think the price of gear can be significally offset by an extend stay in a hospital bed watching your friends skydive. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  17. That is my current progression over the last few years. Granted I am rather stocky and fly camera (I like the openings from the pilot ) I also have a Bitch at my DZ....her, her SO and others have given me very good advice to keep me from breaking myself. So, back to the question....40 Sqft Down size, I would say there is significant risk to breaking yourself. I suggest you speak to your instructor or S,T, and A or both. I took my time, but I also have a wife and kids....It depends on what your priorities are I guess. Phil Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  18. On the way to the DZ i called a good friend and heard the news, needless to say I was less than happy. Even though I had never met Tonto I read his posts as he was a voice of reason. WHen I got to the DZ I let a few fellow DZ.comers know that we lost Tonto. The initial look was one of disbelief. A friend had her laptop and we jumped on-line to confirm what had happened, needless to say I was rather bummed!! Tonto, if you can read this from above understand I read your posts and your words will remain with me. I am saddened we lost you, but I celebrate your life and all you gave to this small community. I sit in from of my PC and raise my glass, fly free my friend!!! BSBD, Feebs Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
  19. I would think when the Yahoo was done packing the rig it would have been intresting for the DZO to tell Yahoo to put on a student harness, when he asked "why?" That rig you just packed, your gonna ride as a passenger!! Maybe then he would have a little more respect for the TI's, students and the DZO. Fire Safety Tip: Don't fry bacon while naked
