  1. Jeez, take a cold shower or something Ok, fine here is some basalt porn for ya that I took last month..
  2. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/08/03/tancredo-bomb-muslim-holy-sites-first/ Yup great idea. Follow a terror attack with what by all means is another terror attack. That'll show em' to mess with us. I expect after bombing all the muslim holy sites, the terrorists would just sit at home and leave us alone. I can't believe that someone in congress would be so bold to make that kind of suggestion. This is the kind of thinking that really makes me wonder about how we can keep electing people like this. If we pulled some kind of shit like this could you imagine what the response would be from the muslim world?? I don't think the 95% of muslims who are currently peaceful and not actively supporting terrorism would remain that way for long.
  3. I actually have that camera - I use it for whitewater rafting. It gets reasonable (VGA) picture quality and is 100% waterproof. I dont think I'd strap it on a skydiving helet as-is though. It definatly represents a significant snag risk - signifinatly moreso then even a box mounted camera. Also, I wouldnt trust the mounts on it to hold up to skydiving force winds. I reinforced the mounts to use for whitewater and it works well. edited to add: the other issue with using that camera for skydiving would be that it has a pretty tight field of view - you really wouldn't be able to see much except the middle of wherever you are looking, and it would be pretty jerky with head movements. I started out mounting the camera on my helmet, but ended up putting it on the back of the boat to get a wider field of view and because I look around way too much when rafting to get a good picture.
  4. Yup, I've been on a cold shower kick for the last month or so. I got back from a 3 week rafting trip in the Grand Canyon where I showered with river water...the temperature was 45 to 55 degrees (but the air temp was 115+!) Ever since getting back, I haven't felt the need for hot showers, and quite enjoy the cold shower. I'm sure I'll fall back into old habits as soon as winter rolls back in though.
  5. If you want to go for it as a career, either go into the military or be prepared to dish out a whole lot of money to get your ratings then spend years making next to nothing. But I gotta say, getting my private pilot was one of the more fun things I ever did. Now I'm working on my instrument and it's great fun and challenging. I'd say go take a few lessons and see how you like it. Once you get your private pilots license and have been in the scene for a little while, decide if it is what you really want to do. Then, dive in headfirst and get your instrument, commercial and multi engine ratings....
  6. I agree a lot was predictable - Harry being a Horcrux, Snape being a good guy, Harry and Ginny and Ron and Hermione getting together in the end, but none of that really spoiled the book for me, it was still a great read. I wish there had been a little bit more development in the end. What ever happened with the Dursleys? I kind of expected Dudley to have some kind of role in the ending with the way he and Harry parted at the begining of the book. Imagine the irony if he, a muggle, played some major role in the downfall of Voldemort? Like someone else said, it would have been nice to have some more development on Draco Malfoy. My favorite part of the book was the Battle of Hogwarts. I really liked how so many people showed up to help Harry and the classic good vs. evil battle that ensued.
  7. It wasn't a skycoaster, it was something called "Air Glory" It sounds similar to skycoaster, but by a different manufacturer, and designed to be portable rather then a fixed unit. http://www.thenorthwestern.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070716/OSH/70716159/1987
  8. Actually it's kind of funny that happened. There are a few dropzones in Canon City, and we have always wondered what would happen if we were to "accidentally" land in one of the prisions. I'll bet they would take it a lot more seriouslly if it were a bunch regular skydivers as opposed to DOD employees. The most secure prison in the country, Supermax, is within 3 miles of the dropzone.
  9. Yup. It's fun. I've ridden it a whole bunch of times. I used to be a whitewater raft guide down on the Royal Gorge and when they were in the testing phase on the skycoaster, they figured out that us raft guides would make good test subjects. So we all got to ride it for free a bunch of times before it was offically certified. By the way, the person who designed the skycoaster is also the same person who designed skyventure wind tunnels.

I hate to admit it but I use it for hours a day, every day...
  11. Technically it took me 6 years out of high school to get my degree. In that time I switched between 4 different majors, went to two schools and refused to go to summer classes. I don't regret taking my time at all.
  12. Hint: look for someone with a birthday in the next month
  13. It sounds like it's not even booting into BIOS, which means that it is either a screen problem (turned down too low, not connected, broken) or a serious hardware issue.
  14. I've driven just that truck here in Colorado a few times. For the most part you'll be fine. The truck was a little slow keeping up with traffic on the steep grades, but no where near as slow as some of the big rigs out there. On the side roads, it did just fine. Just keep to the right lane on the uphills and you'll have no worries. As far as snow goes, it's june now and there were chain laws in effect on I-70 this morning. You never know what you're going to get.
  15. A supermassive solar flare that causes an EMP big enough to send us all back into the stone age.
  16. I used to teach kayaking and I saw a lot of people go through the same thing. Learing to roll can be a pain in the ass. Some people get it right off the bat, others take hours and hours in the pool. Different instructors use different methods and I would advise you to go switch around instructors until you get one who can help make it click. The biggest problem most people have is that they instinctually try to bring their head out of the water first. Even if you are not doing it consciouslly, your body wants your head to come out of the water first and you will be fighting it the whole way. Until you truely get comfortable being underwater in the kayak and bringing your head out last, you will have difficulty rolling. You should only need to use your arms and paddle at the very end of your roll. Getting your roll perfect is a lot like learning to get stable in freefall, there are a lot of things people can say to try to help, but it really comes down to balance and muscle memory. Just keep at it and you'll get it eventually. Oh, and whenever you are a ready to get out on a river, let me know and I'll come along
  17. I actually think thats a great idea. While there are probably plenty of sites online for pilots to post, this would be a great opportunity for jump pilots to get together and discuss aspects of flying jumpers, not just general aviation. I agree with that too. With the number of pilots around here I think a "Pilots Lounge" type forum would be a good addition. Sangiro, when you are talking about related sports forums, are you talking about a new forum on these boards (dropzone.com), or branching out to a different website (like rc.com) and trying to pull some base users from here? I personally participate in many of the sports listed, but I really wouldn't see the relevance of having a paddling forum, for example, on these boards. Now if you were to go start a new paddling website, I'd happily go over and have a look at it. I think that dz.com is rather unique in that it is basically the only major forum for its respective sport. Many of the sports you listed are lacking this kind of central gathering place on the internet, and I think some of them (the smaller ones) definatly have the market for it.
  18. Oh yeah, I forgot one other thing. Go to the Mountain Sun brewpub on Pearl Street. They brew a lot of good beer there and it is a rather unique environment. Basically the Mountain Sun is what happens when a bunch of hippies start a brewery.
  19. Did he do it Naked? Truman Sparks: "Oh, hey, I gotta tell you about my dream. You're gonna get into this man. This is great. No, really, you see like the one thing I wanna do before I join the cosmos is to hang glide off of Mt. Everest. Yeah, but wait, this is the best part: NAKED! Ha Ha! Yeah man, born to be wild!"
  20. Honestly, I had to google it to figure out what it was. I've never been there, looks like it is in the safeway strip mall at 28th and Arapahoe. A few good restraunts I'd reccomend are The Med (get there for Tapas Hour for cheap food and drinks), Pasta Jays, Cafe Gondolier, Juanitas, or most of the aforementioned bars (Dark Horse and The Sink in particular)
  21. Amazing that those joints are still open! I used to hang out there in the early 70's I remember when Dark Horse opened, had mini drinks for 79cents marc Yup, the Dark Horse is my normal Tuesday Night hangout. I think some of the people who are regulars there were probably regulars at the same time you were there. As for the Rio, yeah they've got some potent marg's but I've never cared too much for the food. If you want potent drinks, check out Half Fast Subs on the hill, their drinks are just about as potent and about half as expensive. If you want a good marg, go see Jay Epstein at Mamacitas.
  22. It used to be all the time when my sister worked at Lodo's. Not so much anymore.
  23. Nope, but Tuesdays are my designated nights to drink in Boulder.
  24. Go hiking in the mountains outside of town. There are a lot of places to go...Eldorado Canyon, Chataqua Park, Mt. Sanitas, Settlers Park. Or just go for a walk on the Boulder creek Trail. Lots of good bars: The Dark Horse, The Sink, The Walrus, The Foundry, Walnut Brewery, Sundowner, Catacombs, Redfish, Mamacitas (owned by a fellow skydiver), you get the idea... Eat at Illegal Petes, it's kind of like Chipotle but better. There is always something happening on Pearl Street Mall..lots of interesting shops, eating places, etc. and if you'll be in town on a Tuesday night, let me know and I'll have a beer with you!
  25. Yup, that was a good night. Shannon was there too. I think Deuce was also one of those who incited the "Let's throw BGill in the pool" incident later that night. Here's the only good picture I could find of that night, posted by Kramer. I only met JP at that one boogie, but he seemed like a great guy. I only wish I could have known him better.
