  1. One thing I have always thought we could work toward to prevent these kinds of incidents is to work with the FAA to get a discrete transponder squwak code for Jump Planes to use in the 2 minutes before and during Jump Run. This would have some benefits in that this squwak code could be programmed to come up on every controllers scope, regardless of the filters they had in place, similar to a 7700 squwak (with fewer alarms). This could help prevent the kind of near miss incident that Chris Schidler (diverdriver) had last year. This squwak code could also be programmed into TCAS systems of aircraft to light up and flash to warn other aircraft of the jump ship in the area. This would not prevent this kind of incident entirely, as most GA aircraft are not in contact with ATC, do not have TCAS, and some don't even have a transponder, but it could help provide a heads up to the ATC controllers and TCAS equipped aircraft in the area. Working with the FAA and all the other groups to get this done would be a very, very, big hurdle, however this would simply require a change in software and procedures - nothing too major. There is alot at stake, espically when larger passenger aircraft could potentially be involved. Thoughts? Obviouslly spotting is important, however, it is a very big sky out there, and your chances of spotting an aircraft far enough away to pose a threat to you 5 minutes later under canopy are slim...
  2. You got everything you guessed on right... This means visibility 1.5 statute miles, Haze, temperatyre -14, dewpoint-18, Altimeter setting 29.82, Remark: automated weather reporting station.
  3. Yup, not exactly an airport, a mountain top weather reporting station at Berthod Pass. With winds that high in the mountains, I wouldnt want to be flying anywhere near that pass. The winds in the mountains the past few days have been unbelievable. Some friends of mine were driving on I-70 and got hit with a wind gust that blew out 3 windows in their car...and they wern't the only ones either. Several state patrol cars got caught up in the mess with them. We figured it takes around a 200 MPH gust to cause that kind of damage.
  4. LOL. I've actually thrown two ex-girlfriends out of airplanes now that I think about it.

    The knack

I first read that about 20 minutes ago, now i just realized that I have been quietly humming that song since then.
  6. I'm in a similar situation right now. Dont put $1600 into something that is only worth $1400. Scrap it, take the salvage value and use it to put a good down payment on a car. Go used if you have to....
  7. Last time I went diving in that area the visibility was horrible...you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. You definatly want to call some of the dive shops beforehand and ask about the conditions.
  8. Nice. I drive through that intersection every day on the way home from work. I'll have to look for it.
  9. Yeah, it'll be a long drive home regardless. I'm looking at leaving around 7, hopefully things will be getting better by then.
  10. At this point we might as well go for the record. If the snow is on the ground for 20 more days, we'll have ourselves an all time record. Anyone want to bet the snow stays beyond Feb 21st?
  11. So, 44 days after I first posted this thread, not a lot of change... We have had 7 consecutive weeks with snow now. The snow has been on the ground for 43 days which puts us 4th on the list of longest periods of snow on the ground in Denver. And it's still snowing. Any guesses for when this will all melt??
  12. Assuming all the other pieces fall into place, care to explain how "they" managed to make the planes fly into the WTC and pentagon when they had left 15 mins before? No instrument systems are that accurate without an ILS, which are setup only on runways.
  13. I haven't seen it? where is the billboard?
  14. It'd be quite a drive, but there are some fantastic wreck and coral dives in Key Largo. There are 3 major wrecks sunk as artifical reefs, the Speigel Grove being the biggest of the three. Most companies do a 2-tank boat dive, going to a wreck first, then to a reef.
  15. There's a station down to $1.89 near my house
  16. That sounds like classic food aggression. This can be worked out of dogs, so I definatly reccomend telling her.
  17. Your easiest and best bet would be to pay for google ad words. They are the links that appear at the bottom of this forum (and many other pages on the net), as well as at the top and side of google search results. It basically works like an auction..you say what the most you are willing to pay for an impression, and the highest bidder gets the ad. "Forcing" a web page to show up in the actual search results is much more difficult. In the early days of the internet and simple search engines repeating the phrase "orlando cpa" over and over on your webpage worked. These days, the way the search engines work is that other pages that mention "orlando cpa" and link to your web page count toward getting the highest rankings. This is something that is difficult to force the search engine to do by design. Your best bet to get your listing higher would be to make sure that your website is linked from as many other relavant pages (business associations, yellow pages ads, cpa confrences and the like)
  18. A buddy of mine works at Microsoft and has had it on his laptop for some time now. I like the way it looks, but it comes with a price...the computing and graphical requirements to run it are very high. You're probably going to have difficulty running it on a 5-year old cpu.
  19. We're livin' on the edge We're livin' on the edge We're livin' on the edge We're livin' on the edge There's somethin' wrong with the world today The light bulb's gettin' dim There's meltdown in the sky
  20. yes, unfortunatly there is. I just ate there a few hours ago.
  21. We are desprately in need of civil engineers where I work. Think you could swing it??
  22. I live right up against the mtns (Lakewood, CO) and I've seen many coyotes running through the neighborhood at night. I've never seen the type of behavior you're talking about though. Weird...
  23. Better yet, what do we call this decade? The one before this was the nineties, the one before that was the eighties, what is this one? The oughts? Turn of the millenium?
