  1. That guy's hilarious - here's another of his works: http://www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html
  2. The pyrotechnics they flew last night were seen all over the Denver area. Confused the hell out of people! It took me a long time to figure out what the flaming balls of fire I was seeing in the sky on my commute home were. News reports said everything from an asteroid to the ISS until they figured it out. Nice work! Slideshow with pics: http://www.thedenverchannel.com/slideshow/news/21568322/detail.html
  3. I have used gkg.net successfully for a number of years. They are cheap and easy to work with. Also, they are local to you in College Station, if that matters to you.
  4. ...not to mention the wear and tear on the bike wheel. Maybe look into a hitch rack for the bike?
  5. Half Fast Subs - Boulder, CO
  6. I've never used those boots, or those particular skis, (although I do like the bandit series), BUT I can tell you the Fritschi AT bindings are great bindings. They really stand up well and are easy to work, even with gloved hands. I was pretty leary of the whole AT system at first - it looked pretty flimsy, but my bindings have really held up.
  7. If anyone is, I need a favor. PM me.
  8. Pushed back to July 17 '09 http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssTechMediaTelecomNews/idUSN1444562120080814
  9. Yup, I beileve that's White Knight Two, the mothership for Spaceship Two. It should be interesting to see the design for spaceship two when it's unveiled.
  10. Utopias is an interesting beer. They actually had to genetically engineer a new strain of yeast to be able to get that strong. I've sampled utopias the last three years at the Great American Beer Festival here in Denver. I try it every time and conclude that I really don't like it. It's sweet...and got a strange flavor and aftertaste. But that doesn't stop me from trying it every year just because I can. Avrey brewing (Boulder, CO) makes some good strong beers if that's what you like. If you are ever in Boulder on a friday afternoon, stop by the Avrey tasting room and check out some of their strong beers...they're in the 15% to 18% range
  11. Yup. I got my pilot's license and didnt join AOPA. Now I get junk email from them almost weekly. Although I had considered joining at one point, I will never join now because I know that a good portion of the money goes toward sending out massive amounts of junk mail.
  12. Why limit yourself to just one? Just like tequila, it all depends on your tastes at the time. My favorites are Islay scotches like Ardbeg or Laphroig, but not a lot of people like it that smoky. I also like Speyside single malts such as Aberlour, and Glen Moray. Talisker is a good Island, Oban is a good Highland, and you can never go wrong with a good Glenkinche as a lowland. Try them all and decide what you like best!
  13. A few years back, we did a ballon jump, landed a field, and were standing around waiting for the van to show up when an old guy drives up in a car. He said that we had scared the hell out of him and he was making sure everything was okay. Apparently he had been sitting around chatting on the phone and watching this balloon floating peacefully along when, "Peope started falling out of the balloon!" Considering we were at about 7k AGL, we took some pretty long delays. So, for about 20 - 25 secs he was sure he was watching someone die. I think we're lucky he didn't have a heart attack before we deployed
  14. A few pics from a raft trip I went on through Lodore Canyon in Dinosaur National Monument. All but one of these are High Dynamic Range (HDR) images stacked from multiple exposures to get a very high depth of tone. I've been playing with this a bit and these are some of the better results I've gotten.
  15. Ok for me: 1. Getting Married next weekend. 2. Going on a 4-day whitewater rafting trip through the Gates of Lodore the following weekend. 3. Going on a 5-day rafting trip on the San Juan River in Utah in June.
  16. But SOMEBODY's got to move here so they can fill up all the condos they're building downtown. I have no idea who they think are going to move into them all Lets see... I live in one... And they seem to be popular as ever. And my building is 97% occupied and selling at a good price still. No foreclosures. I think the bigger problem is the homes in Highlands Ranch. No one wants to live there. Or Green Valley Ranch, or Erie, or Southlands, or any of the other multitude of sprawling megadevelopments miles from anywhere that have gone up in the last few years. I've got a project up in Green Valley Ranch and you'd be shocked at the number of forclosures up for sale there. I think with higher gas prices, people will be looking to move closer to the city centers (like the condos).
  17. I've done a lot of backpacking around Colorado. When are you going? For how long? Willing to put up with snow? How about high altitude? How Far are you willing to drive from Denver? Taking Dogs? One of my favorite backpacking trips close to Denver is the hike up to Crater Lake in Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. You can either start at the Monarch Lake trailhead near Lake Granby, or at the Long Lake Trailhead near Ward. If you start at Monarch Lake, you'll have a nice walk up next to a beautiful creek with a lot of waterfalls. If you start at Long Lake you have to climb up and over Pawnee Pass (~12,500 feet) then drop down into Crater Lake. The campsite at Crater Lake is one of the most spectacularlly beautiful places I've ever been. Lone Eagle Peak rises up out of the lake into beautiful spire. Be forewarned though...unless you go after late July, you'll probably be dealing with snow. Espically with the winter we've had this year, and espically if you start at Long Lake and go up over Pawnee Pass. Another favorite, but you have to make the drive down to Durango, is hopping on the Durango-Silverton Railroad and getting off at either Needleton or Elk Park then spending a few days in the Weiminuche wilderness area. It is spectacular down there. I've made a number of trips and keep going back. And there are 3 fourteeners you can climb if you are so inclined. Again, snow might be an issue if you are going before July. See the pics below... There's also good backpacking in Rocky Mountain NP, Great Sand Dunes NP, Lost Creek Wilderness, Rawah Wilderness, The Collegiate Peaks, And there are a lot more options...
  18. I can honestly say that I have never had that problem. My bar tab usualy exceeds the minimum by atleast a factor of 10. And what bar are you going to that you can get drunk for less than $25?? Probably some country bar in Bumfuck, USA... Yup. Next time you find yourself in Fayetteville, WV (next to the New River Gorge Bridge), hit up a little place called Charlie's Pub. I've never managed to stay conscious long enough to rack up a $25 tab there. My first time in there, I ordered a Red Bull Vodka. Charlie set down a highball glass, threw some ice in, topped it off with vodka and set a Red Bull next to it...$3 please. I think I made it up to $10 that night. I lived in Fayetteville for a couple of months and never managed to rack up more than a $15 bar tab at Charlie's.
  19. Beautiful picture. Glad to hear you listened to some of my advice on where to stop on your way out here from your thread a few months ago
  20. Just saw it on CNN....that's a hell of a crosswind. I think I had a few landings in a 172 that looked a bit like that when I was learning crosswind tecnique, but that's a huge plane to be landing with that kind of angle!
  21. Well, since we're posting our animal pictures... Here's one of my dog and my parents' cat. Suffice to say, the cat and I aren't on very good terms.
  22. I think it was a combination of luck and smarts. According to the locals, the guy was a well-known professional teaching a class on mountain ski guiding. The only issue is see, is the runout from where they were skiing crosses through the slide path. Here is the Colorado avalanche information center's report on the slide:
  23. Not the hockey team, the real thing. Some friends and I were standing on top of Mt. Crested Butte on saturday when we watched a massive avalanche unfold across the valley. The avalanche was triggered by 5 very lucky skiers, who managed not to get caught up in the slide. I had my camera out, and actually caught images of the area 1 minute before the slide, during the middle of the slide, and at the end of the slide. The first two pictures are a bit blurry and out of focus because I was not taking pictures of the slide area itself, these were captured in the background of other pictures. If you look closely, you can see the ski tracks leading down to the trees between the two slabs. scary shit.
  24. on cnn.com now... looks like a pretty major fire.
  25. come have a beer with me where are you at?
