  1. Just think about that....Cypres has activation altitude between 750 and 130 ft. If you move the upper altitude, you gonna move the lower as well. And in case of low cutaway and not finding the reserve handle, you are taking away the chance that AAD will start the reserve deployment for you. If you wanna play with your AAD,do it. Just read the manual before that. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  2. http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46 And before you do something you are not familiar with, talk to your rigger. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  3. Speed 2000 170 will fit. If you are from Spain, go for the Speed. Better price and faster delivery. But the best think to do before spend any money is to talk with your rigger. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  4. Since the modern AAD was introduced 20 years ago, we have thousands of activations where the loop was fully cut and only one time where It might jammed the loop. Beside that, jamming the reserve PC and jamming the freebag is the same thing when talking about 1 second difference between life or dead. But those extra 3/4 of an inch closing loop trying to run trough all grommets is making a big difference. 5. What I find strange is that Mr. Booth is trying to rise the opening altitude for the AAD's but he's doing nothing to place the cutter on TOP of the reserve PC on his rigs. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  6. Speed 2000/ 120 ft with WL of 1.32 One reserve ride. No problems. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  7. Techno 140 = 176 lbs Max Recommended Weight and 198 lbs. Max Exit Weight Techno 155 = 198lbs Max Recommended and 220 lbs Max Exit. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  8. I'm trying to understand why somebody who lives in Germany,Switzerland or Denmark will buy stuff made in USA from a dealer in Australia???? Why not from the local dealer? Or a dealer from USA? I'm not trying to criticize you guys, I'm just trying to understand why. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  9. I'm glad you brought that up...my old rigger use to replace mine every re-pack, I'll have to make a note to let my new rigger know that's what I want to keep doing. Even if the rigger replace the loop with the repack ( as he should), there's 180 days ( or even more) where the jumper is responsible for keeping that loop in good shape. And if the pin is in place during the pin check, the loop can be in really bad condition. When I'm packing for team, I'm doing full gear check after the first back-to back. Until now I've seen two rigs with really bad condition of the reserve loop. Both times, the rigs were grounded until the loop was replaced. Someone might ask :"why checking after the first back-to back"? Well, this is the first time I'm touching that gear. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  10. And when talking about the reserve pin, let's not forget about the condition of the reserve loop. I've seen too many scary looking reserve loops over the years. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  11. The difference is in the shape of the cap. Quick 2's has a round shape. Quick 3's has the same cap, but the material is taken off from 2 sides giving an elliptical shape. And Quick 3.1 has a totally different spring and cap. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hahaha You need the answer: " Once! After the reserve repack" Take care mate Voted for "Before every jump" "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  13. Well, I have to disagree with you. I like the design a lot. I've never heard of toggle fire on Advance risers. And they have a really cool pocket to put the tab from the soft links,so you don't have to hand tack them. The only bad thing about them is that I don't have them in my rig Blue skies, "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  14. My best shoot here will be that those are Advance risers. They have a straight pin to set the half brakes. The same way like Atom risers. Nothing "off', just a bit different Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  15. It's like listening to Bill Booth's interview from this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQuJr5wuvSw (from 7:25) Don't forget about the TSO C23d requirements. Softer doesn't always mean slower. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  16. I don't think it's possible to have the work done without removing the reserve from the container. Maybe it can be done with a sewing machine with a long arm, so you can turn the rig under the machine. 17. Mirage uses combination from type 3 and 4 on their bridles. The downside.....type 4 is more expensive Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  18. If he requested the inspection, and the canopy was inspected, he should pay. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  19. Are you sure that they both chopped at the same altitude? If the guy with the skyhook chopped first and survived and the other guy stayed 2 seconds with the mess and chopped after that, you can't really give the credit to the skyhook. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  20. I'm fairly certain that the skyhook is aluminum. It's aluminum. But my theory is different and also involve the magnetic covers. What I think it happens when you have a rig with magnets and a skyhook, is that the covers tend to get closed again and they also close the upper part of reserve container, making it more difficult for the freebag to leave the container. (Note: I did only a table testing. It's too expensive for me to do the real "in air" tests.) Especially when you are spinning on your back. That delay is not really big, but it's just enough for the reserve PC to beat the skyhook. Anyway, I still believe that the skyhook is good for the big size reserves. Tandems, student etc. And I still believe that the jumpers are giving it too much credit based on the skyhook promo video. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  21. Only about 80-90 % they stay together. And if you lose your main, your freebag goes as well. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  22. Navigator is a student canopy, but it's not square. It's more semi elliptical. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  23. Smaller main and shorter rig Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  24. Why fixing something which is not broken Oh,wait....fashion I know:) Blue skies that's why everyone's jumping squares now; fashion! i have them, and i love them! but i'm a fashion-victim anyway, colour-coordinated rig and canopy, and believe it or not, i even choose my reserve to be going with the pattern.. I never said that the magnets are unnecessary. They are really good solution for the riser cover problem on some rigs. Like Vector 3. Like riggerrob said, the tolerance on the stiffener riser cover design is really small. The fabric distribution during the reserve repack must be good in order to make the riser covers perform the way they are designed. The other rigs with the same problem like V3 are (in my opinion) Icon and Javelin ( the Skyhook design). I will be happy if they switch to magnets. Other rigs are less sensitive on "poor" packing. Their riser covers perform well and I don't see a reason why they have to be changed. On the other hand,if a company sell less rigs because their riser covers are not magnetic, eventually they will have to change the design. This is what I meant when I said "fashion" P.S. Show me round with the performance of a square and I will show you a stiffener riser cover which work as good as the magnetic one "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  25. You're cooler when you toss a bomber swoop, hitting the same gates and going past the punks who downsized too fast too soon on your "uncool" canopy! Normally I'm trying to stay away from posting outside "gear and rigging" part of the forum. The reason for that is that I have more reserve repacks and patches than jumps. But since I'm not gonna give any advice,I will make an exceptions and I will tell my opinion. I think that in general 90+ % when somebody is changing his canopy size or model is about being cool. Not trying to offend anyone. Over the years I've seen too many people who were flying canopies that they shouldn't. I'm sure that they are many jumpers with 6-7-800 jumps who are able to land a Velocity. But can they really take 100% of canopy like Sabre 2 or Safire2..??? In The Netherlands you need minimum 700 jumps to jump canopy like Katana or CF. The idea behind this rule is that somebody will spend at least 700 jumps surviving the game called Skydiving and with 700 jumps he will make a better decision if he is capable of flying this kind of wing. The majority of the "wanna be cool" skydivers start searching for KA or CF when they have about 600-650 jumps. Why? Because after 700 jumps they are allowed to jump it. Not because they are ready. (well, some of them are ready). One of the most spectacular swoops I've seen was performed on Sabre 2 150 from jumper with 15 000 jumps. I think that Performance Designs have to make a video called:"See what you can do with Sabre2,Pulse,Storm.....etc. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO FLY IT" And at the end I'm gonna post 2 videos. The first one is on Sabre 2 and the second one is on Katana.
