  1. Strongest PC spring doesn't mean highest PC launch does it? Javelin's PC has to clear only 2 flaps when V3's has to clear 4. I think that they are both good rigs. My personal preference from those 2 is Javelin. They are a few minor details which are big enough for me to put V3 on the bottom of my "wish list" If somebody want to hear my reasons for that,he can send me a PM and I'll give him an answer ,but I'm not going to talk about them here. 2. Well, I don't think that the launch of the reserve PC from V3 is the highest. Not even close. It's way below Advance, Vortex 2, Mirage, Voodoo and Atom Legend with "Quick 3.1" PC. This is the data from my personal experience. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  3. Rob, I think that the Russians are using PPK-U as a AAD for the drogue release Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  4. Congratulations dude. Welcome to the dark side. I have only one advice......never stop learning. And don't be afraid to say:"Oh,I don't know ..." Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  5. Just clarifying -- are you still talking about Vectors? Their tuck tabs are rather long compared to on other rigs. Yep. This was a V310 Micron, a Spectre 150, and a girl who weighs 120lbs. sans gear. I have seen this 2 times. Once on Vector 3 and once on the new Icon with skyhook. Both times the risers were packed UNDER the cover flap with the note:"place the risers on TOP of this flap" I think that the magnets are great solution for solving the problem with V3 riser cover design. And the problem is that if you have a wrong fabric distribution on the reserve with too much fabric in the "ears",you will have troubles with the riser covers staying closed "in place" when the rig is ready for jump. But if you put the main risers under both riser covers, you might end up in situation when they can remain closed after the deployment. I'm happy with the tuck tab riser covers on my G4. They work great. I had a baglock malfunction on the second rubber band (about 3 ft above the risers) and the both riser covers were open with no problem.(according to Bill Booth,I had to clear the riser covers myself before pulling the reserve ripcord.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSVRSIicQDk ....@ 6:47) I'm looking forward to see how many manufacturers will change the designs on their rigs from tuck tabs to magnets because of their costumers. Not because their design need change. I know a guy who bought a V3 only because of the magnets......Well...we will see "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

  8. There are no brake settings on Icarus tandem and the canopy opens on full drive. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  9. Hm....Asen "Sammy" Popov no longer runs DZ in Bulgaria, and he is the most careless instructor I've ever seen. If you don't trust me,check this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_wp7dBtkUU&feature=related AFF student without helmet, with t-shirt and Sabre 2/170 as a main. If he is a "hell of a good instructor",I don't wanna see a bad one!I have to admit that he has the flying skills, but not the teaching skills. Anyway..... 10. OK,this seems to be another Skyhook discussion. We all know that Skyhook is faster than the normal RSL(when it works, because sometimes just doesn't work and nobody can tell why). The big question here is:"How much faster".Are we talking about 200-300 ft vertical difference ,or more like 100ft. I found 2 videos on youtube. Both intentional cutaways. One with skyhook and one with RSL. Well, doesn't look like a big difference, does it? Skyhook cutaway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy35JMUCcAw&feature=related RSL cutaway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3w4OFyizivE I would like to see side by side cutaway with both,Skyhook and RSL. The same size reserve, the same packing technique, the same or close to the same WL. I don't think that the difference will be more than 100-150 ft. But who knows? 11. What about this one??? Centaurus + Pegasus + Phantom 26. The worst thing about this gear is that it's still in use Don't ask me "why" and "how" Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  12. Hornet btw. Not in production anymore "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  13. Or check the 1:50 mark on this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSaL2oCgYSY&feature=channel "It cost me less, but I'll probably charge more, cuz it's new and cool" "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  14. Fixed for you "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  15. Both reserves are listed up to 115 kg max. But why not Optimum 143 into TJNK?! You are a big guy. The size of the rig should be the last thing you should worry about. The difference between NJK and TJNK is not so big. You hardly can see it and I'm sure that you can't feel it when the rig is on your back. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  16. Hm...Is the yellow patch placed outside the canopy instead of inside? Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

    mud flaps

........................................................................ .... with a very carefully tuned double needle sewing machine - with a folder - to sew the binding tape. Hopefully he has also replaced a few dozen mud flaps before he touches your rig. so i'm guessing its a pretty technique intensive operation.... its a mirage G4 FWIW. i live in san diego and i'm trying to figure out who could do it locally, hence me trying to figure out what is required. Hmm... For changing the mud flaps on G4 you need only a single needle sewing machine and 15-20 mins. But I guess that depends of the DOM of the rig. For the early G4's the mud flaps are sewn under the binding and then you need a double needle machine For the newer ones the mud flaps are sewn on top of the binding and for replacing them you need a single needle only. Call Mirage and ask them is the best you can do Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  18. Or...just another Skyhook fuckup. It's hard to believe that tandem main in streamer has less drag than the reserve PC. But that's just my thoughts "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  19. You still can't have Optimum 160 as a reserve. Think about something else. You are from France,so you can call Basik Air Concept and ask them about their X-Fast reserve. Maybe they have a demo program. Or you can try "Speed 2000" from Paratec. Good luck "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  20. It happens, but not very often. If you aren't a high-speed swooper, there usually isn't even enough airspeed to extract the reserve chute from its deployment bag. Check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lehGkRCFXY&feature=related As you can see,the airspeed is really low and the reserve is out of the free bag. blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  21. Thanks for the info guys Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  22. Is there some special reason why the new reserves (PDR,Optimum,Smart,Speed etc.) are without them? I mean , PD use them for the most main canopies, but not for the reserves. I would like to hear some opinions why not, because I really think that they are handy to use even for Pro Packing( I'm talking about pro packing reserves, not mains) And at the end.....PLEASE don't start the brand war again. Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  23. Yes he does. I won't be calling him a midget in public, but I could throw him. (Hi Deyan! Happy New year!) Hahaha Happy New Year Johan "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  24. I don't know if I still can buy JVX (ZP & Sail hybrid),but I'm sure that I can't buy JVX ( low porosity & ZP hybrid) I got your point with the rig size example. And this may work until in your gear store come somebody with small to average body frame. Then Icon I5 will be way too big. Just think about something else You have a customer 160-165 cm and 45-55 kilos. In this case the overall length of the rig is important. I don't know how long is I5,but I think is about 19-20 inches. Can you see my point I'm talking from personal experience. It's really damn hard to find short rigs Blue skies "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  25. QuoteThe reason this works specifically with the Icon is because Aerodyne make their cnaopies fit their containers, so with the Aerodyne canopies packing a bit larger and their ZPX packing a bit smaller it works perfect for three downsizes, then throw in a Icarus or PD canopy to get the 4th downsize. Quote Playing with different fabrics and different types of canopies seems to work for any H&C system on the market I will give you an example with my rig (Mirage G4 MXS 1/2) 1...Pulse 135(tight) Pilot 132 ZPX( I don't know, but I think will fit and will be tight) 2...Sabre 2 120 (tight) 3...Sabre 2 107 (medium) 4...Crossfire 2 99(loose) 5...XAOS 27 88(medium) 6...JVX (hybrid) 69 (tight) So I think I will keep this rig for the next few thousand jumps.
