  1. This kind of malfunction happens when somebody tries to re close already packed rig, without getting the PC out of the pocket and without checking the bridle routing afterwards. At least this is my experience from talking to people who ended up with PCIT after a bridle misrouting. 2. To be more accurate in your testing, you should have somebody wearing the rig. You gonna get different readings, believe me
  3. The difference between A1,B1,C1 and D1 will stay about the same. The biggest difference will be between the outside lines and the center lines. The general rule of thumb is ..... the moment you have any doubts about the condition of any part of your equipment, go to your rigger. 4. Talking about the one where he grabbed the reserve pilot chute bridle while on his back and pulled it out? I could find that for you, hold on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaYQ6iP8zlg Cheers! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  5. 140? Who the hell makes a 140?????? North American Aerodynamics
  6. S.P.E.E.D. (Sequential Parachute Extraction & Equalization Device) Source http://www.jumpshack.com/default.asp?CategoryID=TECH&PageID=Reserve_Speedbag&SortBy=DATE_D "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  7. I wanted to try it in my G4 for some time already, but right now I'm way too busy to build one myself and I don't want to bother the good folks at Jumps Shack for a custom design/size bag. I've jumped almost all of the stow less and semi stow less designs out there in the last 4 years, and just wanted to compare the S.P.E.E.D bag to them. I'll try to find more time this winter for projects like this. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  8. Maybe because the "party bag" is exactly the opposite on what the OP is looking for?! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  9. It's a wild guess, but I think that with the pin out, the RPC would've clear the flaps without hesitation. It will not be the greatest launch though. Maybe 2 ft or less, but at least out of the rig. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7bFy4FoNiA "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  10. That's how bad rigging may contribute to slow reserve deployments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYIUjKGxagI This video was posted in at least 3 other threads. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

    Techno 128

Actually the listed exit weight is 74 kg for Techno 128. It's an awesome reserve btw. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  12. When talking about "sticky" stuff, the more it stays, the worse it gets. My first malfunction was on a round main that was known to have sticky issues. Went to the DZ had a chance to jump " right now", didn't repack it...well, I paid the price. It was 3 months packjob. I never had any problems with it up to a month. I'm not a big fan of 1 year I+R cycle. Jumpers want that because they think it will cost them less money, which isn't the case. Like friend of mine said when they switched to 1 year:" Nahh, didn't affect me. I just doubled the prices". 13. How much wear exactly? PD require factory inspections after 40 repacks, which is 20 years with the current rules. All reserves we've sent, came back re certified for another as low as 20 and as much as 40 repacks. That's another 10 to 20 years. Based on that I'd say that a new reserve will outlast its owner. 14. Are you sure it's not 116? I'll see if I can find the trim chat tomorrow. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi Jerry, All units sent for 4/8 years check starting from Jan '13 have this feature as well ! Take care "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  16. The same counts for Icarus. Their reserve need to be re certified after 40 repacks as well. I don't know if they will keep this requirement for the Nano as well, but I will not be surprised if they do. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  17. But you do need to hold a rigger's certificate or be under the direct supervision of one to sew the patches. So with that said, someone's rigger certificate should be in play here. MEL You are just assuming that he is the one doing the job. It could be that he buy and resell those canopies . Now is the time that somebody will tell you that since this is a main canopy and it's not TSO'd ,anybody can do whatever they want with it and we gonna end up with another thread "who can do what with the gear" "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  18. Just because he is selling gear that doesn't mean that he is a rigger. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  19. No it doesn't. It looks like an Icon that has too much bulk in the ears, which can cause the riser covers to not want to stay closed. It's more like a Quest from Atmogear, but you are right about the bulk in the ears
  20. I don't know how they did it, but non of the rigs were set for left handed deployment. The red handle is the cutaway handle, not a soft reserve one. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  21. You'll get 12 opinions from 10 riggers on this
  22. That's fine. I teach people to read, understand, follow the manual and use their common sense. And you are right. Using PdF method on Aerodyne soft links will be an unacceptable unsafe practice, because there's a big difference between those two. This is exactly my point. You won't know it unless you work with them. What's common between Aerodyne's, Precision's and PdF's soft links? They are all made from Spectra line and a metal ring. What's the difference? They all have different mounting instruction. If you mismatch the links and their instructions, you/ your costumer might be in trouble. I believe that this is what exactly happened to the rigger whose work made the OP start this thread. Just for the record. I don't like PdF soft links. Not at all. They are pain in the butt to connect and disconnect. But to be honest, PdF was the first company to make reusable soft links. They set the standard. ( somebody must correct me if I'm wrong) There are millions of jumps on those links over the last 15 maybe 20 years without problems, and that makes them "industries approved"! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  23. PdF soft links can be used only on type 17 risers on a main with micro lines. They can't be used on reserves. One, because they are not certified and two, because they are really short. You won't be able to route them around type 7,8 or 13 risers. Send me your postal address on PM and I'll send you an old soft link to play with
  24. Yes! That's the way it should be. When you assemble/disassemble PdF soft links once, you'll see that this is impossible to happen by itself. The loop is too tight and you really have to force it over the ring. Not only that, but the soft link is short enough so the ring can't move freely. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  25. If you have ever tried to undo PdF soft links, you will know that accidental release it's not possible. Not to mention that they are designed to work without lark's knot, so the rigger has one less chance to fuck up! And as you can see from this thread... riggers DO fuck up! I wouldn't use them on my canopy either because of few other reasons, but accidental release is not one of them! But let's not hijack the thread. The thread is about the great job the OP did by spotting those misrouted reserve soft links
