Mike, I think it takes bigger balls to walk away from the sport after your career than it does for most people to walk into it. Congrats on a long and safe run. I've had the 10-22 mounted to my XT for about a year. I think that it's a fantastic choice for any kind of flying as long as you can put up with the weight and bulk. I recently added Canon's lens hood & it seems alot larger than necessary & catches a ton of air. I think that the real strength of the lens is the lack of distiortion, even when VERY close to the subject. When I took the attached picture (@10mm) I was an arm's length away from the formation. The problem is that if for whatever reason you aren't able to get VERY close (within arms' length) your pictures will make it look like you're a mile away. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

We have the same exit weight and I fly a JVX 80 (ZP) @ 2.0. Most of my jumps are camera jumps & the canopy opens VERY well for an Xbrace. I think that 2.0 is a pretty good loading for general use. It does a great job of getting back from long spots and still gets good speed and distance, but I have to strap on 15+lbs of weight to really feel like I'm getting alot of power out of it. If I were to order another it would probably be a hybrid 70 or 72 @ ~2.25. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.

A friend of mine went through the BR course about 10 years ago & he did a bunch of tethered baloon jumps. AFAIK a balloon is not an aircraft until it is free of any attachment to the ground.
