  1. I hope that this is all just a misunderstanding... "2 way artistic" at Collegiates was always compulsories without free rounds. I was also planning on going to Ottawa this year for 2 way Freefly. All of the 2 way info is still in the 2007 Skydivers Competition Manual, so I figured that the competition was still on... 2. ^^ That's AWESOME news Dawn. Your mom is one cool lady & judging from her first jump she'll do great with AFF. I got a really fantastic exit shot that I'm going to send to Parachutist Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  3. Wow, what a busy weekend! At last the weather cooperated and we were able to jump for three straight days! I got the unique pleasure of jumping with Dawn's Mom (Who rocks, I must say) to kick off my weekend. After that, it was the usual tandemonium! The DZ was pretty quiet fun jumper wise as there were three teams at Raeford competing in the 4 way meet (someone who was there, feel free to fill us in on what went on.) Also, word on the DZ is that Lyman kicked ass at the CPC (swoop) meet, putting to shame both the Golden Knights and the Raeford Dragon, earning him his latest nickname, Dragon Slayer In other news, Josh got pied for his 100th jump in an eventful manner... I'm sure you will all hear the story around the bonfire. Next weekend is Memorial Day, so if the weather cooperates again we can get 4 straight days of continuous jumping in! Matt and Allison Norris are back in town for good and they're having a big party saturday night complete with DJ and alcohol. Lets all offer them a warm welcome back! I did 29 jumps this weekend, and it's well past my bedtime, so I'll see ya later! Eric Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  4. Awesome, I'm glad there will be some fun jumpers out! The weather looks great and there are 17 tandems on the books for Friday. It would be a great opportunity to get some last minute 4-way practice in before the meet *wink wink. At last it looks like we'll have a jumpable weekend! I can't wait Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  5. As of now, is anyone making a RDS specifically for the JVX other than Paraconcepts? I heard Mel has one available, but I haven't seen any pictures yet. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  6. You rang? Unfortunately there isn't much to update from this past weekend. Friday was a beautiful day and had a pretty good turnout & we flew five otter loads. The UNC guys showed up to make a few jumps before graudation on sunday. Congrats guys! Sideshow has an awesome new paintjob on his helmet... I'd try to describe it, but I can't do it justice, you'll just have to see it. Saturday started out very nice and we got three CASA loads up before the rain moved in. Marion and Whitney got to make an oh-so-rare hop & pop out of the CASA... lucky ladies :) Also, a big group of Marines from Jacksonville got rained out and stayed the night so that they could jump in the morning sunday. Mothers' day was very slow as usual and we flew four slightly windy loads in the otter. This weekend looks super nice, so hopefully mother nature will give us a break in light of all the wind, clouds & rain we've been jumping through recently. I hope to see everyone (who isn't going to the Raeford meet) out at the DZ enjoying the weather and catching up on lost jumps. Good luck to the Fockers and Where Da' Gold At?! 7. Don't forget, those rare earth magnets are going to be awful close to your Cypres How would you keep the magnets from sticking to eachother when all of the grommets are grouped together and rolled up inside the tail? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  8. I autocrossed for a few seasons before I got into skydiving. My dad is still active with the local autoX club. Like skydiving, it will eat up your free time and extra income in a heartbeat, but it is whole lot of fun. Before you know it, you'll have an autocross car, rallycross car and a Solo1 track car Most clubs have a novice class and an extra special briefing at the beginning of the day with a novice walkthrough. Your first few runs should concentrate on finding the course and being consistant instead of trying to be fast. Smooth is fast! If anyone is looking for a nice autocross car, I have a 1988 MR2 Supercharged for sale with all of the goodies Good Luck! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  9. ^ I share your pain I've looked into the part 141 school thing, and I'm not really a fan of borrowing money, especially up to $200K. Everything that I have right now I own outright and I'd prefer to keep it that way. I'm also not a big fan of the military. No offense to anyone, but I don't think it's the career path for me. I don't want to fight, I want to fly. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  10. I've been wanting to get my private pilots license for quite a while. I started flying when I was 16 and I have about 10 hours (8 years ago). I really wanted to go to Embry Riddle, but couldn't afford it. Shortly after I started college we had 911 and the flight schools in the area started dropping like flys or raising prices through the roof. I graduated from a state college last year and I've been working as a videographer and TI ever since. I live on the DZ, so my cost of living is very low but I still don't have a pile of extra income. I eventually want to work as a pilot, but I want to get there on a low budget. The only flight schools in the area charge at least $75/hr wet for a 150 and $30 for instruction. I'm also open to the idea of buying my own airplane, but these days an average 150 goes for over $15,000. I know there are alot of pilots on the forums. What do you think is the best & cheapest way to get a license and work towards a commercial these days? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  11. I'm a huge fan of Parachute Systems gear! I flew the "Machine" 89 (@1.8) about a year ago. It opened and performed alot like a VX at the same (way too low) wingloading. The opening was great and it felt very solid. I'd love to demo something around a 70-75 so that I could compare it to my JVX & VX. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  12. ^Thanks for the lead in Beav! ... And thanks to EVERYONE who showed up despite the crap weather this weekend. Four cessna H&P loads (WOOO!) went up on saturday, as well as 3 & 1/2 "high humidititty" otter loads. Speaking of loads, there were buttoloads of food and drinking at the DZ this weekend to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the Innagural weekend of the Tent Village in full effect. Super extra special big thanks to everyone who contributed! Lots of people were talking about how awesome it was to see so many happy people out and having a good time, jumping or no jumping. Lets keep up the momentum as we roll into summer! There are already a few students on the books for friday & the forecast looks good! Seeya, Eric Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  13. There are about 15 tandems schedueled for Friday, so loads should be flying starting with the 10am students. This weekend is going to be the innagural weekend for the tent village according to Whitney & Co. Dave is planning on getting completely wasted. Perhaps some Cinco de Mayo margarita buckets are in order? Seeya, Eric Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  14. I've got lots of Casa jumps and a few jumps from the SDA Skyvan. All of my skyvan jumps were in Moab at a field elevation of 4000msl whereas my Casa jumps are all near sea level at CSS and Lake Wales, so it's not apples to apples, but the Casa is noticably faster and definately quieter. I was on a light Casa load this weekend (~15 on board) and we were climbing at over 2000 ft/min until we got to 10K, and then slowed down slightly. Two of the Fayards Casas were recently sold to an Austrailian company, but they are constantly buying and selling airplanes & the newest Casa made its maiden flight after complete overhaul and conversion for jumping about two weeks ago. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  15. That would be really awesome! I'll take a camera slot Pam and Randy would definately be the people to talk to as they are very well connected in the big way universe. If it's going to happen this summer we need to get the airplanes lined up ASAP. It'll take 3 Casas or 4 otters minimum. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  16. ^Hehe, sorry about that Bolas. I figured you guys were jumping your cessna on friday. At any rate, it was good to see you, Gus, Megan & Joey, if only for a few minutes. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  17. Both DZ's are great! They've got nice facilities, fast turbines and friendly local jumpers. CSS is currently only open Fri-Sun, but that is slated to change to Wed-Sun sometime next month. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  18. ^Mine just came in the mail today. Correction: The Tent Village will not be in full effect until the weekend of the 5-6 of May. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  19. It was great to see so many familiar faces at the DZ this past weekend for the CSL meet! Big congrats to the Fockers for taking FIRST place in their FIRST I-class showing
  20. Hello All! Just a quick reminder that CSS will be open and flying the King Air this Thursday, the 19th! Come out and start the weekend early or get your team together for a few extra practice jumps in before the CSL meet. Hopefully a good showing will help convince Nancy to start flying more during the week since summer is almost upon us! I know how much Yevgeniy misses coming out after work to make his daily skydive in a button up shirt and khakis :D Seeya Thurs, Eric Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  21. ^This coming weekend is the first 4 way meet of the season for the Carolina Skydiving League. Clicky Also, thanks to everyone for coming out this past weekend despite the questionable weather. It was a hell of a good time! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  22. I've flown a VX87 with a JVX lineset and there was a very noticable difference between it and the stock VX90 that I'd put some jumps on at about the same time. The openings were also noticably softer. I currently own a JVX80 and VX69 and I'm going to get a JVX lineset for the VX pretty soon. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  23. Thanks for that Harry! I really miss that smile sometimes. I love how you can hear him say "Ohh man!" about halfway through. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  24. ^Three beer queer! Welcome to the club Thanks to everybody who showed up for Freefly Friday! We flew a few fun-jumper only king air loads & rocked until sunset. The chili disappeared in about 3 minutes... no shit. I'll make some more in the near future. Good people of the Village, thanks for helping make this weekend so much fun & thanks to Brandon for keeping his clothes on. Beav2, don't forget to check the "Wings and Things" section in the back of Parachutist. You'll see your picture there too. BTW, should we start a seperate Easter Boogie thread? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  25. ^^ Welcome to the thread Mike. It's always great to see new people getting the itch to skydive! ^ Beav2, Dinner is at sunset followed by fondue and the movie Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
