  1. There will be a few Corona and Boddington's conniseurs coming tomorrow evening, but I'm sure that any beer will suffice. I'm bringing some Busch Light and Saranac. I just talked to Nancy and there are 6 students on the schedule at 2pm. That means that the first load should happen somewhere around 3:15. I've gotta go stir the chili, I'll see you all tomorrow. 2. Hey Matt, This happens from time to time. Most of the load missed said haze, but the students in the back of the plane hit a little bit. The ice can be there year round... saturday it was in the 80's on the ground Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  3. Como estan? What an awesome weekend. Last friday was the first of the season at CSS and we managed to get a couple of King Air loads up, followed by 14 otter loads on Saturday and about 10 on Sunday, wrapping up with a 10 way sunset deathstar from 15,000ft The Easter Boogie is just two weekends away & in order to keep the happy-go-jumpy vibe going I'd like to declare this coming friday the first FREEFLY FRIDAY of the season and the second ever Fondue Friday. Everyone's invited to come and start the weekend off early with fun/silly jumps out of the King Air to be followed by dinner & beer to pay my debt for the new tandem rating. The weather looks great, so bring your tents and stay at the DZ to get an early start on saturday (There are 18 tandems coming in at 9am... Bring both rigs, Matt ) Dinner will be right after sunset & I'll be making another pot of chipotle lime chili and some chocolate fondue for dessert. After dinner we'll be watching everybody's favorite campy skydiving film, Cutaway starring Alec Baldwin. Please RSVP by PM or in the thread so I know how many people to expect. Bring some extra beer or something that tastes good when dipped in chocolate Bitches! Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  4. I've seen a 15sqft. one fly with a little gps attached to it... It was pretty nifty Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  5. Any idea if it affects your dytter or neptune? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  6. Hahaha... I need one of those spiffy FX285 tandem canopies Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  7. Wasn't the most recent collision at Eloy between the only two canopies in the sky & completely unrelated to swooping? Are they doing anything to address traffic awareness in general, regardless of how many canopies are clogging up the landing area? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  8. I just talked to the DZ and so far there are 5 students on the books starting at NOON. I will also be trying to do a tandem or two to finish up my rating, so that ought to help keep the loads flying. The weather is supposed to be 75-80 degrees all weekend Spring is finally here! ^^Supergirl, There should be a pretty good crowd at the DZ on saturday given the good weather. There will be a few current and former UNC students around if you have any quesetions about the school. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  9. ^^I'd rather be inside video... if ya know what I mean And now for something completely different... This friday marks the grand FRIDAY re-opening of the DZ!!! That's right, for the first time since NOVEMBER you can come out and jump on a weekday There are a couple of students on the books & we *should* have the King Air so we can fly as many loads as we want, provided we have about 8+ people. Spread the word and bring your friends! The DZ also has a booth at the Triangle Town Center Mall this Friday-Sunday at their Boat and Outdoor Activities Show. Nancy is still looking for people to run the booth on saturday and sunday. If you'd like a few extra jump tickets and to promote skydiving to the mallgoing public, then give the DZ a call. 496-2224 Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  10. Transparent tape will do. Make sure that it's archival if you want it to last for more than a decade. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  11. I'm going through the Strong tandem program right now and I just happen to have the manual sitting right next to my laptop. It says that the "FAA Requirements" are 1. Minimum three years of skydiving experience; 2. Minimum of 500 freefall jumps on ram air parachutes; and 3. USPA or FAI expert parachute license. There is no mention of how much freefall time is required, only 500 freefall jumps. I assume this just means you can't log static line jumps since a hop & pop still involves some freefall? What gets me is the requirement for 3 years in the sport. They don't go into any detail about what that means. Three years since you got your first license? If it means 3 years since your first jump, then someone who made a tandem a few years back could buy two rigs, go to Eloy and get on every load for a month and become a tandem master as soon as they reach 500. A month ago I had less than three years in the sport (since my first jump) and 1500 jumps & it would've been illegal for me to do a tandem... Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  12. I think Tonika-nika would be more appropriate I'm looking foreward to tramp night! I'll give you a call tomorrow Matt. Also, don't forget that the Easter Boogie is only 3 weeks away! This season will be in full swing before we know it. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  13. Awesome news man! I was just wondering if there is going to be a time limit for the films? Also, according to the video release we need to have permission to use music from the copywrite holders. How do you plan on using the films that are entered in the festival? Does this mean no stolen music? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  14. I've noticed some paint transfer on my carry along SL setup. I always try to attach it somewhere sturdy with no sharp edges. Maybe you could get some narrow tubular webbing and thread the dacron line of the SL through it for abrasion resistance. That way the webbing sleeve can be easily replaced if damaged, and the dacron is well protected. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  15. ^Are you "officially" coming to the boogie Tony? It's only a month away! Ohh, and Majeronis, don't forget that you'll also owe beer for your first jumps with real students, and your first paid skydives! That brings the total to six cases between the two of you... On second thought, just bring a pony keg to the boogie and we'll call it even. UPDATE: I just called the DZ and they are NOT open today On a good note, the tandem schedule is pretty slammed this weekend, so there will be lots and lots of loads flying. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  16. Hmm... Interesting. The weather looks pretty good tomorrow. Keith just gave me a call to see if I'd heard anything. Has anyone heard anything directly from Nancy? I sure hope you're right Pete
  17. Be sure to post the specifics in the events forum. I'll have to start scraping footage together. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  18. Congrats and BEER! I'm glad that you both survived the coach course. Now have fun chasing those students around the sky AFAIK the DZ opens NEXT friday the 16th. There's nothing on the website about it, but that's the buzz that I've heard around the DZ. Since we haven't had a completely jumpable weekend in about 6 weeks, being open the extra day will probably double the number of loads we get to fly per week until the spring arrives and the winds calm down. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  19. I went to court today to fight my first ever speeding ticket. 60 in a 35 according to the officer (BS). I showed up 45 minutes early and there were already about 200 people in line outside the courthouse. This number increased to 1700 by the time they opened the doors. Luckily it only took me about an hour to get in to talk to the DA who agreed to drop the charges if I took a traffic school. What BS. Good luck with yours. They should have some mercy on you considering it's your first offense. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  20. On a related note, don't forget that next friday marks the Grand Re-Opening of the DZ on fridays! Lets try to get a decent crowd out to make some jumps and make it worth Nancy's while to open up during the week. Hopefully we can revive Freefly Fridays Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  21. Hehe... Nice one Bolas! Did you get any river rash from the concrete banks or the tupperware rocks? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  22. I just talked to Rob and he said that it was an otter was not one of ours and was coming in for maintnence. The pilot decided to try to get into our runway after being told to move it over to Franklin Co. & bounced off the runway in crazy winds. Both props struck, but otherwise the airplane was in pretty good shape. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  23. ^Yea, seriously. Can we be a little less vauge here? Jason, how was NM? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  24. I'd love to take part in the CPC if it's going to be held in this region again. I highly doubt that Paul will let it happen at the CSS meet though. Does anyone have any more information about this? Who is planning on running it? Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
  25. I just pulled out the sectional chart & CSS is marked as North Raleigh (00NC). The one off of 64 is Raleigh East. There's a good chance that this was a CSS otter, but it has not come up on the NTSB accident reports yet. Regardless, thank goodness nobody was hurt & I hope that the airplane isn't busted too badly. Egad, A BASE life defiles a bad age.
