  1. Did I miss reading a confidentialy clause somewhere in the draw ? Is everyone sure there even was a draw ? Maybe we were just duped.
  2. Does anyone perhaps know the origins of the Riser type classifications ? Where do the numbers 8 and 17 actualy come from and what do they mean ? Are they a measurement or simply a reference index number of some kind ? During a social discussion around a table recently, two very experienced skydivers quite clearly stated that the Type 8 risers were "mini-risers" and I was not going contradict them by saying that they're wrong because some guy on DZ.com said differently. Could someone refer me to a PDF or online document from a rigging authority that defines these riser types. I'd like to have something more than hearsay to show if the topic ever comes up again. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.

    true/false

False. Man needs tools and devices to imitate the feats of other animals, and so we are not really "able to do what other animals do" in the strictest sense. How would a man imitate the feat of a bee or hummingbird ? ...hovering in flight next to a flower and creating so little turbulence around it while doing so that we could extract nectar from it with the lightest touch. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  4. Kate Beckinsale did look good in Van Helsing and even better in Underworld, but she was wearing a lot of makeup in both those films and blue contact lenses aswell for Underworld. Did you recognise Kate Beckinsale as the leading lady in Pearl Harbor ? Didn't look like quite the same girl, eh ? - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  5. From News24... British baker Warburtons posed the question "What are your top three cheesiest moments in film?" to 2000 UK moviegoers in celebration of the launch of their new cheese-flavoured crumpets. The list of big cheese moments: (1) Titanic: Leonardo DiCaprio's "I'm the king of the world!" (2) Dirty Dancing: Patrick Swayze's "Nobody puts Baby in the corner." (3) Four Weddings And A Funeral: Andie McDowell's "Is it still raining? I hadn't noticed." (4) Ghost: Demi Moore's "Ditto," to Patrick Swayze's "I love you." (5) Top Gun: Val Kilmer to Tom Cruise: "You can be my wingman anytime" (6) Notting Hill: Julia Roberts' "I'm just a girl ... standing in front of a boy ... asking him to love her." (7) Independence Day: Bill Pullman's "Today we celebrate our Independence Day!" (8) Braveheart: Mel Gibson's "They may take our lives, but they will not take our freedom!" (9) Jerry Maguire: Renee Zellweger to Tom Cruise: "You had me at hello." (10) The Postman: A blind woman says to Kevin Costner: "You're a godsend, a saviour." He replies: "No, I'm a postman." Can the DZ.commers think of a few gems to top these ? - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.

    HTML Editors

I do dont nearly as much Web work as I used to but I always liked UltraEdit. I hate "intelligent" editors that like to insert their own crap in for you in places. UltraEdit color codes the tags, comments and script texts, only stores what you type, and is useful for so much more than just HTML editing. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  9. Would demo jumpers typicaly drop wind-drift indicators before a jump like this ? ...or would they be in communication with support staff on the ground to give them wind speed and direction ? (Hypotheticaly)... If the ground staff did not report the wind conditions accurately and honestly to the jumpers, misleading them about the ground winds so as not to cancel the demo, would this guy have a better case ? - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  10. Unless you have children, that's not an entirely bad approach. You would be amazed how many people out there are "looking out for number one" and who will treat you like a doormat if you let them. Altruism is only rewarding when dealing with those who are worthy of it. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.

  12. Yeah, what RevJim said. I'm guessing that some Volatile Organic Constituents (VOC) from the fuel leaked from a line or tank into the fuselage... and waited for an open flame or cigarette ember. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.

  14. These are numbers, therefore not entirely correct to treat them as character strings. The correct mathematical function is FLOOR SELECT FLOOR (39.74834738), FLOOR (9.44), FLOOR(137102837.223) - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  15. I hope this thread doesnt end up in Speaker's corner, but I carry a concealed firearm most of the time. I'm obviously very careful about where I put it and where it is at all times, because the consequences of losing it are quite serious. As a result, I perform a kind of a "gear check" several times a day for all the things I routinely carry like wallet, cellphone, keys etc. I've never lost an important item. My first cellphone lasted 5 years until I had to replace it because they retired the model and I couldnt get new batteries for it anymore. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.

  17. You just lost a lot of respect from me with that comment. Pretty ignorant and elitist thing to say!!! The same type of attitude is what lost your party the election.Quote Look at it like this: I do skydiving, AggieDave does skydiving. I've done 70 jumps at a 100-member DZ with one Cessna. Dave has done 1400 jumps at a large, well-equipped and respected DZ in the US. It would surely be silly for me to suggest that Dave was ignorant and elitist if he implied that he knows more about skydiving than me, right ? So, I kinda think kallend made a fair comment. To get back on topic; I'd be disappointed to see a ban on firearms. Killers are seldom thwarted by a ban anyway.
  18. My guess is that's absolutely the surest way to be added to this mix. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  19. The items are a type of Dräger-Tube Dräger is a German company. I find nothing unusual about the German labels. People who carry them are not necessarily protecting themselves from their own weapons. I would expect the armed forces of many nationalities have similar kits. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
  20. Ah, y'see.. now this is why I was so reluctant to post this link for DaGimp and ressurrect this thread. Chelle may be getting more attention from these forums than she really wanted. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.

  22. A Biblical riddle: Who Am I? God made Adam out of the dust, But thought it best to make me first; So I was made before the man, According to God's Holy plan. My whole body God made complete, Without arms or hands or feet. My ways and acts did God control, But in my body he placed no soul. A living being I became, And Adam gave to me a name. Then from his presence I withdrew, For this man Adam I never knew. All my Maker's laws I do obey, And from these laws I never stray. Thousands of me go in fear, But seldom on the earth appear. Later, for a purpose God did see, He placed a living soul in me. But that soul of mine God had to claim, And from me took it back again. And when this soul from me had fled, I was the same as when first made; Without arms, legs, feet, or soul, I travel on from pole to pole. My labors are from day to night, And to men I once furnished light. Thousands of people young and old, Did by my death bright lights behold. No right or wrong can I conceive; The Bible and its teachings I can't believe. The fear of death doesn't trouble me; Pure happiness I will never see. And up in Heaven I can never go, Nor in the grave or Hell below. So get your Bible and read with care; You'll find my name recorded there. 23. Some good reads: Alan Binnebose post Hooknswoops post Top 5 myths about RSL's I'm also curious to know how often riser failure has ever occured. I had always believed risers were designed to huge stress tolerances. - No 'mericans were harmed during the making of this post.
