  1. Its not just the tandem industry, its life in general has cost the people of this country far to much by the greediness of those in a position to let it continue. So, you bring your beer? Its 5 o'clock somewhere POPS #9344
  2. IMHO its not that they could be found liable for almost anything. It's that they should be held liable and accountable for their own mistakes. This, unlike the Strong suit, is what I am personally thinking. Ted didn't have anything to do with the irresponsible and inappropriate use of the gear his company made, just the simple mistake in selling it to them. That is his liability, and should be the end of his liability. IMHO. So, you bring your beer? Its 5 o'clock somewhere POPS #9344

  4. I wasn't insinuating any specific DZ, and what each one pays or doesn't pay. There seems to be, evident even through these threads on dizzydotcom, that there are a lot of coaches that are expected to "teach" for free. If teaching is in the form of giving a class, or jumping with a student, there are a lot of places that expect the coach to just suck it up and do it. Lots of places pay for the slot, but thats it. Rack it up to experience. I'm not that hard up for the cash believe me, so thats not a motivational factor when I jump with anyone. It is the young coaches that are really attempting to break into this sport and help defray some of their expenses that are being taken advantage of here. Hell, I didn't even want to take the course when it was offered but decided that since I knew the Instructor, and their was an empty slot to fill, what the hell I was in. I surprised myself and passed. Guess my mad skillz were ok for an old duff. Because I was the student in the course who said he would never pass. But, back on track for a moment. If I teach a student a lesson, and that student has "gotten it" and passed that part of their proficiency to move upward, then I should be allowed to sign off on that part of their card. Period, thats my entire point. If my signature on that card isn't required, asked for, or even allowed, then my "lesson" doesn't need to be given by me or any other coach. Leave it up to the "I" rating holders who are OK'd by USPA to sign those blanks, and give all those lessons and classes. Rant over (I hope). 'Mark So, you bring your beer? 5. Dave, Nothing wrong with working under the supervision of an Instructor. I agree completly. The point I was making was this: If a Coach is "working", "teaching", "instructing", at your or any other DZ, then I see it as "instructing" students. USPA is minimilizing the act of "coaches", but we all know how important and vital that coaches are at dz's. What the hell is wrong with the system, is that so many have decided that the "coach" rating is not an instructional level rating! BS! Who teaches most 1st JC's? Coach's! I guess thats not instructional in nature? And, as long as you pay them a little, not a lot mind you, I'm sure you have a lot of happy coach's. The point again wasn't the amount that they are being paid if any, but I for one am so tired of other jumpers, Instructers, and DZO's who think and feel that "coaches" should work for free. 6. Couldn't agree more! When coaches are instructing, and you trust that coach to teach well, and are confident in their abilities, then their signature is their credential that the student has sucessfully passed that level of training. It is your job as an Instructor to teach your "coaches" to become better "instructors". So, you bring your beer? Its 5 o'clock somewhere POPS #9344
  7. Not directed at you specifically Krissy....I agree with some of this BS and some I don't. Why in the world don't we just get rid of the "Coach" rating in the first place??? It doesn't make anyone's "JOB" easier as in the terms of an "Instructor". If USPA wanted any "rating" to be the biggest bag of crap holders, it would be the identifier of coach. Lets just all have an instructional mindset for a minute. Just b/c someone teaches a student the 1st JC, and someone else actually jumps with them, who in the world decided that one person's rating WAS NOT INSRUCTIONAL in nature?? USPA!!!!! So, all of us speak out against all this "not an instructor" bs. Its just politics anyway. If I have to have an "I" to sign off on a students proficiency card, then lets all just say were all "I" competent. Get rid of the coach rating alltogether. Because we all know that Coaches are suspossed to teach for free and jump for free...and that Instructors get monetary benefits from having an I. My .02 So, you bring your beer? 8. *Subject: Another one under the radar you don't know about* A friend of mine was at a Gun Show in Atlanta recently and saw the ATF had a table set up. He asked them what they were doing there and they told them about this new law. Get ready. Scary just got scarier. Tom Senate Bill *SB-2099* will *require you to put on your 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own*. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun. Both _Snopes_ and _TruthorFiction_ say this is true. And the government is trying to get it done before we know about it. Sounds familiar?? I just checked Snopes; this is true. I am forwarding to everyone I know plus *giving my Reps and Senators an ear full !!!!!* Do you know anything about these two bills? **URGENT HR45 Watch Out!** Concerning the Blair-Holt proposed legislation. Senate Bill *SB-2099* will *require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own*. It may require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun. This bill was introduced on Feb. 24. This bill will become public knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. *This means that the Finance Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all.* The full text of the proposed amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage, http://www.senate.gov/ You can find the bill by doing a search by the bill number, SB-2099. You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text Congress is now starting on the firearms confiscation bill. If it passes, *gun owners will become criminals if you don't fully comply.* It has started. Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House. This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009. Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because the government is trying to fly it under the radar. To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information. Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless: -It is registered -You are fingerprinted -You supply a current Driver's License -You supply your Social Security # -You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing -Each update change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 -Failure to do20so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail. -There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. -Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under -They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison. If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters in your family pass this along. This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense – chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it. This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not. If you take my gun, only the criminal will have one to use against me. HR 45 only makes me/us less safe. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.45 http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/show http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-45 **Please.. copy and send this out to EVERYONE in the USA , whether you support the Right to Bear Arms or are for gun control. We all should have the right to choose.** So, you bring your beer? Its 5 o'clock somewhere POPS #9344
  9. I didn't take the time to read each and every response, so take away my birthday. The 182 dz is such a great place to learn, and feel comfortable jumping, and your not lost in the numbers. Lets just face it, like we haven't beat this to death so many times. DZ's with big planes to fill, any DZ for that matter, has lost touch with it's A's through D's that aren't part of their staff, period! The amount of licensed jumpers that just don't come back to jump is hugh. Some just get tired of waiting hour after hour to get on a load, only to be bumped for a student, a tandem, a video slot, etc. Or have their 4 way down to a 3 way then a 2 way. Ya'll get the drift??? Who the hell wants to go to a dz and spend all day waiting for a load. I have better things to do then sit there all day waiting to get some sky. And the new guy,,, forrrrgeetaboout it. The DZ has allready got your money, and they are just waiitng for you to buy the gear they will get for you at 25% or so higher then the next guy. So stop yer whinning...and asking everyone else why nobody has the time for you. The answer is simple...the DZ's got your money...now run home. So, you bring your beer? 11. Simply put, No. You will however, have to become re-current. Contact the DZ where you will start jumping at again and the instructional staff there will give you all the ready set go information and instruction that you will need to get your knees back in the breeze. 14. I have 2 loaded sidearms in my home. My wife and I know the location of each of these sidearms at a seconds notice. We have each attended self defense classes, and firearms self defense classes. It would be very eash for an intruder to know when we leave for work each day. I leave very early in the am, usually within 10 minutes one way or the other of the same time each day, as well a my wife's departure time. Usually, upon visual clues, ie a loaded firearm pointing right at your chest, and a verbal command to get out, an intruder will usually comply and leave the way they came in very rapidly. But, there are some that just don't get it. The point of pulling the trigger comes into play when the intruder makes a move toward you. It's that simple. Complete 100% self defense, in fear of your life. If your going to own a sidearm for self defense, keep it loaded, know where it is, be prepared to use it if you have to, and get the training necessary to use it properly. It's that simple. If you want to trust your life to electronic warning equipment, thats your choice. I trust my Glock. My wife prefers her Rugger. Just my opinion. So, you bring your beer? 20. Couldn't agree wtih you more. Why is it that there is this large percentage of skydivers that feel that a "coached" jump isn't important enough to have a student pay for the coach's jump? All the people that I know who have only ever had a coach's rating gladly jump with almost everyone and anyone who wants to jump. The coach learns something on all these jumps as well. But, the fun jumps are exactly that, fun jumps. We all pay our own slot on those. The jumps that the student needs a coach on for their "A"...hell yes, the student should pay for the slot. We've all heard it over the years that coaches should jump for free with students. I say let all the AFF instructors, S/L instructors/ IAD instructors make all their jumps out of their pocket and your going to definately see a large decline in instructors jumping with students at each and every drop zone. If people think that the coaches' time, money, effort, are all "free", maybe you would be happy paying the coach back for their time and expense that they took to get their rating and keep it. So, if any "instructors" want to jump at their own expense, without any form of financial gain from their DZO, and pay for all your own slots, your DZO is going to love having your in their back pocket! 24. Why cotton? Well as I don't have any experience in this, I was advised that the cotton bag works better as it doesnt leave any burns on the top skin of the canopy as the bag is being pulled onto the top center during inflation. Again, it was just advise from someone else who does crew. Although it was from someone who has done crew for some time, that person is not a rigger. Not saying a regular nylon bag won't work, I was just told that cotton would be better. So, you bring your beer? Its 5 o'clock somewhere POPS #9344
