  1. Adam, could you let us know how much the DFV cover is for so we can compare it to the UK cover? And you also made the point that there are a number of companies to choose from, a luxury we don't seem to have anymore in the UK. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 2. The USPA wouldn't be included in a pan-European deal which would be needed under the common market freedom of movements rules. If you re-read the OP, if you have cover and membership from a foreign country and are visiting the UK, that is now acceptable. The question is whether you can join another European association without living in that country and can you buy insurance in say Germany without an address there - that goes back to negotiating with the insurance companies around Europe. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 3. I asked the question in the German forum and got one answer so far - everyone gets their own insurance in Germany. From an insurance perspective that is better as there is the chance that one insurer isn't on both sides of the same claim, therefore not having to pay two lots of legal fees. However I don't' think that it would possible to do that in the UK, as the market isn't big enough to make it worthwhile even working out the risks and premiums. I asked one of our actuaries once about life insurance cover and that was his response. With a maximum of 6,000 customers, he can spend his time on more worthwhile product development . edited to add the main gist I meant to post, which is that if there was only one insurer for the whole of Europe, they would suffer the same losses as the UK insurer currently does. What we need to do is encourage those who insure in other European markets (ie like the Germans) to cover people permanently living and jumping in a differnt market, ideally also with non-German licences. That could only be achieved if all the associations got together and started talking to those insurance companies who already use the system as in Germany. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 4. Could someone who is a member of the German association please correct me if I'm wrong (I'll ask in the German forum for someone to read this and let us know), I think in Germany parachutists are classified as pilots. They need to sit an exam on the laws of flying (Flugrecht). As such, skydivers can seek their own insurance in their capacity as pilots and there are a fair number of insurers out there. I know that when I've jumped at German DZ's I've been asked to provide proof of insurance cover, which the BPA kindly faxed to me. Is this a way that we could go? It may also be that other countries' equivalent of the CAA don't require the same level of insurance cover? tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. 5. I'm sure if you show up at the AGM with a sleeping bag in the back of your car you can find a floor to crash on (if necessary the Paris suite or the Fox or whatever the pub is now called) tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe
  6. The website is working now and welcomes Tarnya Hollis as the new person on point. On the sponsors page Bodyflight Bedford is so far the only sponsor of the team listed. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe
  7. I sort of understand the German police wanting one to chase people down those sections of the Autobahn which have no speed limit. If it were a different UK police force, I could similarly understand them wanting to chase people along motorways. From my understanding though, the Met has no motorways that it covers, apart from perhaps sections of motorways inside the M25 - but not much opportunity for high-speed chasing! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 9. definitely a nice car and good to know that my tax pounds (as I don't pay tax dollars yet) aren't paying for it. What I'm not sure about is that if it is a promotional vehicle - what is it promoting? If they are looking to promote the fact that there is a police force in London - more coppers would do that better than a car. If they are trying to promote that even a copper can be cool - also not sure it does that as it's not like anyone is going to be allowed to take out on the pull with them. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 10. Cookie & Biscuit (my 7 month old kittens) send their concerns and best wishes to Bob. Can you do the honours and pass the wishes they told me about on to him? tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe
  11. He was one of my favourite tracking rabbits. He could stay as flat on his back as I could in a full max track with booties on. I kept meaning to find out where he was to do another tracking dive with him to work out how my tracking had developed in the years I didn't see him. I'm sorry that I won't be able to track with him again in this life. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

What amazes me about this story is that not only is Jason great at basketball, it's the way he is clearly loved, and was so before he got to play, or he wouldn't haven't been given that chance. It says a lot for his coach, the team and the town as a whole. Great story about Jason and the spirit within his home town. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 18. I got Cookie & Biscuit as my present for finally being at home and to have a good excuse not to have to travel for work again. Right now they are still a bit skittish as they only arrived at home yesterday. I'm hoping they will settle in ok over the holidays when I'm at home most of the time. btw - they are Snowshoes which was a cross between Siamese and Shorthairs in the 60's and they are actually incredibly quiet considering their Siamese ancestry although they do have the colouring from their Siamese origins. Cookie has a white ear and Biscuit a white nose just so you can tell them apart! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

  20. In my experience (and I don't know the instructors at SVCO) the instructors are pretty good at helping you with a lot of the basics. The main downside is that they are working the whole time you are in the chamber, so can't really talk to you between your rotations. I've learnt a lot of my sit-flying in the tunnel from the instructors at airkix although I have had coaching at times too. After the uncaoched sessions I've done, the instructors often give me hints and tips which were really helpful and I put them into practice the following week. If they had been able to tell me these things mid-session between rotations, I may have been able to progress faster, but they obviously can't do that while responsible for the safety of the other flyers. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 25. Caroline still does them at Nethers sometimes - great fun. She also does random skydives, where the only rule is that she is the base and everyone then picks exit order and what they pick up. On the key, the only rule is that you can't take the same grip you let go. Some really weird formations come out of that type! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion.
