  1. I got a raise of Euro 2.80 one year and they didn't even change the standard letter to basically tell me (what I already knew) that I was overpaid already and wouldn't be getting a payrise at all tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 2. the unit could have been shipped directly to airtec in Germany for its service not via SSK, in which case SSK wouldn't have a record of the service. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

  5. I agree with your observation around lane discipline in the UK. However, people in the UK are better at keeping distance. I lived in Germany for a while and the lane discipline is amazing (mainly because despite going 120 mph up a hill and round a corner, some German built car can do it faster!). They are really bad about crawling up exhaust pipes though. I think the reason is around what is emphasised more in driving tests, my UK driving test really went into stopping distances and in Germany some motorways have no speed limits and the locally built cars are designed to go extreme speeds! I often wish the Brits could learn lane discipline off the Germans and the Germans would learn about keeping an adequat stopping distance off the Brits! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 6. in a separate category, still a discontinued item though that I miss: Peanut Face Pack from the Body Shop . Haven't found anything that works as well as it did. Mind you by now I probably have inflated memories of how great my face looked and felt after one of those face packs. 7. I started off being a bit disturbed too, then took a mental step back and thought about what a great skydiver she'd make - good control of her body, amazing arch and long legs that would help her track! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 8. the one difference between the BPA AFF and many other AFFs is the hop'n'pop which is required by the BPA. A number of licensing associations from other countries don't require them. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe
  9. ZP and Ram Air refer to different things. ZP is the fabric that some canopies are made of (as opposed to F111 is still used for others). Ram Air refers to the shape of the canopy, ie with a top and bottom skin and cells which are inflated as the air rams into them (that sound is that really how that term came about?) rather than round shape. I have not heard of a non-Ram Air canopy made of ZP, but there are lots of things I haven't heard of so doesn't mean it doesn't exist. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 11. I went to PSC for the first time today and loved it. There was the usual checking of paperwork, but nothing onerous, then I did a solo (as I always do first time at a new dz). On the way up I asked if there was a load organiser on the dz, and was duly introduced to him once back on the ground. Even the people I wasn't jumping with were very friendly, asking me where I came from, tellng stories of their experiences in the UK and overall very chatty. The dropzone is smaller than I'm used to, that just made it more friendly. I easily got 6 jumps in and could have done more. The plane is great, with a great sound system (shame about the Abba CD!), nicely fitted out and like any King Air, climbs nice and fast. I'll definitely be going back and am glad to have found a home while I'm in SA!
  12. not that I'm a biologist, virologist or chemist in anyway, my understanding is that viruses are practically impossible to find cures for as they mutate - hence there isn't a cure for the common cold either. Except that the human body can fight a common cold in most circumstances but not the HI virus. This may be more of a speakers corner discussion though so I'll shut up on the topic again here. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe
  13. would have answered MGF, as that is what I drive at home - the test told me I was a Ford Mustang and on the third word of the description it was clear why it had selected that instead of the MGF: tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 14. I like Iain M Banks's novels best, although reading Feersum Endjinn was hard work. He used to turn out one Sci-Fi out every other year, intersperse by a fiction novel published under Iain Banks the alternate year. Seems to have slowed down a little recently. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe
  15. just being devil's advocate here - isn't comfort a personal thing? I depends on the extent to which the 'standard' of a container matches to your body shape and flying style. A friend of mine had two custom built rigs from two different manufacturers, and found one more comfortable than the other. The other was sold and now they have a custom built rig from a third manufacturer which is comfortable. I would not ascribe the discomfort of one of the rigs as being a reason for me not to buy a rig from them, as we have different body shapes and flying styles and what is uncomfortable for one person could well be comfortable to another. The new owner of the 'uncomfortable' rig loves it and considers it comfortable, although it wasn't even custom made for them! tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Gardening!

Another thing that works for slugs and snails and actually prevents them from attacking things rather than killing them is coffee grounds. When I first moved into my house, there were lots of snails and slugs on my back wall eating my clematis. I pour the coffee grounds onto the top of the wall that they sneak over to eat my plant and since then, hardly any of them sneak over the wall Mind you, I don't know whether it's something that needs to be done really regularly, I haven't been at the house for a month now so they may have come back tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 18. They are hard work, can be very hard work at times, less so at others and the time together can be great. It can also be difficult to live up to the expectations the other one has built up over the time spent apart. Just depends on the individuals and their determination to make it work. Been in one before which didn't work out because our expectations of the other were different, he just wanted a bit of fun, I thought there was more there. As to the one at the moment, well I don't discuss good or bad times in a relationship in public

depends on the definition of continously! I'm loosing the 'who's got fewer clouds in the sky' competition with the UK at the moment while enjoying a very dry South African winter. 20. Biltong. Don't seem to be able to get enough of it at the moment, hopefully it will wear off before I leave SA or I'll have to start paying a fortune for the stuff that's imported into the UK tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. Being alive is a special occasion. Avril Sloe

  22. I transferred after 15s delays. I'd been stuck on 10s and decided I'd just do an AFF, if necessary start from scratch. After I'd booked the AFF I was progressed to 15s. Having done 15s, I was able to skip levels 1 & 2 on the AFF, and my instructors charged me on a per jump basis rather than as a full package. One of the advantages of doing a mix & match is that you are likely to know people at the DZ in the UK where you'll be jumping before you come home form your AFF which can be helpful in finding coaches for your FS1 or FF1. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion. 23. I didn't know Shannon, but this has been a bad week-end and I know how I've been feeling these last few days after hearing about two other deaths and can only think that now even more are now feeling the same way. As Gareth said, we need to remember their lives, how they touched us and how we are now better people for having met them, even though it's tough and sad that we won't see them again. tash Don't ever save anything for a special occasion.
