    Friday-itis

I woke up this morning with severe case of anal glaucoma....I just didn't see my ass coming into to work today....but I did. Now that I'm here - and it's as slow as 'molasses in January' - I'm completely bored. To further complicate matters...it's f***n' beautiful outside...and I know of at least 2 dz's that are jumping right now...this SUCKS!! So - it's friday - bitch about having to be at work....let's all do something new!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  2. Interesting questions...and a typical dilemma. I had four friends come out to the dz recently and make some tandems. They pulled me aside later and asked if they should tip their instructors. I told them it wasn't a common practice, but if they felt they wanted to - I assured them the TM wouldn't argue. Then they asked how much. That's where I really drew a blank. After spending in excess of $130 for a "joy ride" how much would you tip? I told my friends that I had seen anywhere from $5-$20 offered to a TM - but I felt bad telling them to up their price another $20, when it wasn't even 'normal' to tip. So, how do others address, handle the situation?? Do you encourage tipping?? Just wondering... Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  3. Up until my most recent $130 Gatorz...it was my $120 Ray-bans. I still wear my R-Bs every day and while driving, but when I'm at the dz...the Gz stay on my face....all the time!!! I love that I can jump in them! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  4. another good idea is to get professional photos of the family done....depending on how many kids she has....getting nice photos of parents with the children is always a winner. We surprised my Mum on her 50th with some....and she still has them on her bookshelf, and desk at work (over 10 years ago). Plays are good, opera, concert of her favourite performer from "back in the day"... ...culture is always a big hit. Other than that - how about a weekend away from the hustle & bustle....a B&B in the country, or near a lake, or in the mountains. Does she enjoy nature walks, etc? Sounds like you've got some good ideas started already, but just thought I'd throw some more at ya. Good luck. Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  5. I'll split it with you, Kel... ...but I'm installing a bed for boogies - and of course - the 'owners' have to 'sleep inside'!!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  6. I thought for a second that this thread was about "celebrity skydivers".... ...so my first thoughts were: Norman Kent Joe Jennings Olav Zipser Dan B-C - and all members of AZAirspeed ....etc!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  7. I can defintely see both sides of the argument as well - but I have to lean towards the side of "you should be able to afford to make mistakes if you want to play in our world." Understand where I'm coming from - I jumped when I was unemployed...and nearly had a couple of accidents. It taught me a lesson....don't take risks when you can't afford to. When I femured in (completely accidental) - I was only JUST on health insurance...much like Jerry - and it was a true blessing in disguise. Now I'm more experienced with my skills...and I know what risks to take & when...and when I really can't afford to take any - I make damn sure I just land safely. It's really cool to WALK... - trust me!! I know, from his own lips, that Jerry knew that when he didn't have insurance - he thought about it on every jump and didn't take unnecessary risks. FORTUNATELY, when something happened to him - he did have health insurance. Did he take an excessive risk even though he shouldn't have, and was warned not to - YES. But, he could afford it, and now he is on his way to a speedy recovery (doesn't make it right still). Do I hold it against him, no - not in the slightest. If anything - I wish he had listened to those warning him. Kevin is a different story. He relied on his health to function at his job. Now that he is busted up - he can't work, and he didn't have insurance. So, he is in a much worse position than Jerry - but no different. He was warned not to do risky stuff at his experience level - and opted to not heed warnings. Again - I feel bad that he is hurt - but I see both situations as brought on by one's own choices/ego/actions. There's a reason the saying still stands...There's no such thing as an old, bold skydiver. There are other jumpers out there - some that I hope read this thread before it's too late - who feel that after 20 jumps on a 150, they're ready for a 135...and then shortly thereafter they move to a 120 - all with less than 200 Total Jumps!!!. COUNTLESS warnings against these actions fall upon deaf ears. Is it ego, or ignorance? I feel it's both...but certainly your life is more precious than that, isn't it??!! There's a reason people with 2000 jumps are swooping...and those with 200 aren't (or shouldn't). Follow the advice of your more experienced jumpers....LISTEN CAREFULLY...all of them will tell you a story of when they let their egos overshadow their experience - and they learned their lesson. Take it ssslllooowww people - I say again.... IT'S REALLY, REALLY COOL TO WALK!!! psa over. Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

  9. you sure that's not a wallaby?? basically a smaller, cousin of the 'roo. If not - then it's a baby 'roo....because there's no way an adult 'roo gets swallowed by a snake... ....bitten and poisoned - maybe, but not swallowed. Cool pics though - I love watching snakes eat!! [tom green]lemme feed Mitch....c'mon...lemme feed him!! Unleash the fury!![/tom green] Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

  11. I know - I didn't even plan that!!! 'Kaha' means "strong" in Maori - and only when I told a Venezuelan friend what her name was did I learn that it also meant 'Box'!!! Too funny! Thought 'bout cropping them...until I saw her... ...how could you destroy such beauty - for the sake my pretentious whims??!!!! So, the flops stay...and I love 'em that way...now I wouldn't have them any other way! I hear ya, Icon! Kaha has put me through the ringer in the 8 months I've owned her, but it was worth it! Oh, and hey - your darn little mongrel bit Kaha's neck...didn't realize it until I got home!!! Now she's got a big scab!! I'm going to have to whoop yer dog next time I see her!!!

  14. I'm all for it....and for my $20 - that means....
