  2. So - I was just joking with a friend at work as to why one of our colleagues was late this morning...and it sparked the question... Which do you prefer...a bit of Morning Glory or a more elaborate Moonlight Promenade?? I tend to enjoy both, equally, but must admit I'm a bit more partial to my evenings...I feel more creative. Nothing like a good Sunday morning though!!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

  6. So why does this fact make you skeptical? Can you clarify your statement? Maybe we can help you get clear about it. I am skeptical because i have looked at a few other places near me and they all require you to be 18, and here i find this place that lets you jump at 16. They are NOT SUCKING in Raeford!!!! The fact that they allow 16 year olds to jump is a) sanctioned by the USPA to begin AFF, and b) no big deal - it's not like they have 'little kiddies' running around everywhere. The DZ is great - the vibe is awesome - Aviators is the shit....and beware of the Dragon!! Go, have a great time - you won't be sorry!!!
  7. yeah - I'd agree with 'Duh here... ...she's sending off a very co-dependent vibe here....next thing you know - she's wanting to hang out all the time...go with you everywhere, sleep with Clay, and then she's spreading your life all over town. On the one hand, she could very well be friendly, and over-demonstrative - and this is just her way but I'd be cautious. Go to the gym tonight and see how it goes. If you can work out in peace, and she just wants someone to be there that she knows...cool. No worries If she tries talking to you while you're trying to get your breathing rhythmic in your warm-up 5k....then call it a day and go home. I might also invite her skydiving, but don't go to any extra efforts to see that she goes (like meeting up before hand, or carpooling). I'd just tell her where to be...and tell her you'll be there all weekend. Then go about your business normally. If she turns up - you're already in your element and she can only observe and take part if she's really social. If not - she'll get bored and go home. Then you can say something like, "sorry about this weekend - when I'm jumping I'm focused on my skills and my packing....blah, blah, blah" lesson learned! It's not your responsibility to be her friend... Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  8. i agree with AD...most feet (not ankle) tats I've seen have faded faster than other parts. tops of the toes are the most likely to fade...and I'm totally surprised at brierebecca's bottom of toes (that's cool girl - I want to see!!) feet shed skin faster than most other parts of the body...and as such - you'll be losing layers of "protection" on top of your tattoo. Exposure to sun etc will speed the fading process. Be mindful of these things. HOWEVER, I'm a firm believer...if it means something to you - get it done - and don't worry about the consequences!!! After all - it need only make sense to you!!! (and if it does fade away after a couple (10!) years - then you'll have had it, and you can decide to re-touch, or leave. nothing ventured, nothing gained!)
  9. you're right - I got confused with my terminology there. Thanks for the clarification...duly noted. I was thinking in terms of base, approach, final. (again - not a pilot) and yes, I would rather have a plane on the ground - sometimes - if I could see it. I guess what I was getting at with my suggestion is that if you can't see me, and I can't see you - then I take comfort in the fact that we aren't going to be close on landing. Anyway - I appreciate your responses...they've provided me with more things to consider in my own argument...as well as shed light to new challenges to canopies and AC 'sharing' the air. Let's just all continue to be SAFE out there!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  10. yes, but billvon, isn't that strictly to enter your base leg, not your final? base leg is the downwind leg of your approach - where you should be flying away from (and directly at) canopies?? And, if traffic control is approving landings close together - wouldn't it pay to have someone in manifest on the radio telling the pilot they're clear to set up, but there's approx. X minutes until all canopies are down - to space landings?? True - and up until now it has been done safely. I agree with the previous mentions of "doing something now is too early", but I postured the idea early to generate discussion - and perhaps collectively develop a safe "standard" for canopies and AC. Great insight, THANKS bv!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic
  11. I'm posting here to suggest something that I thought would be obvious given the nature of flying, and landing, but under the conditions operating today, around some of the busier airports - I recognize how unlikely it may seem. Our sport experienced a REAL TRAGEDY this weekend...so I'm posturing one viewpoint to prevent it from happening again (given the freak nature of this incident - I recognize it may never happen again, EVER) Why do planes land WHILE canopies are in the air?? What I know of piloting - you're allowed to only have one plane one final descent at a time, right? (perhaps I'm wrong) Given that once parachutes (parachutists) exit an aircraft - they are automatically on final descent - so why allow pilots to land while canopies are flying? Where I'm coming from... When I learned to skydive (in NZ), no planes landed while canopies were in the air...in fact, they would circle the run-way until the last canopy was down. Mind you - most places in NZ were smaller dzs and Cessnas are hard-pressed to land as fast as skydivers, but when it happened, or when tandems were in the air - they would circle. So, what kind of rule could exist for something like this to be avoided? Counter-arguments... *High altitude Hop n' Pops would certainly take longer for some of the faster planes to descend....something would need to be addressed there *Birdman jumps can sometimes land at, or around the time of the airplane - I imagine lighter 'aircraft' (parachutes) would have the right of way. *Tandem canopies often land after a plane...hmmm...more to think about Anyway - those are my thoughts given the terrible news I heard this weekend....suggestions? insights? arguments? I'd be interested in hearing some other thoughts here - THANKS! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

    Neptune Wave

I played with one in Dublin for a little while I was chatting to Lara from Alti-2. They're cool - basically a Neptune with out the log book function. Think Pro-dytter to a Pro-track. Contact Lara for more information, or to place an order. Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

  15. Mine was on here a long, LONG time ago... perhaps a greenie could help a brother out. I looked in the Pub (where it was originally) and couldn't find it. Basically - my story involves my 17th jump, a HUGE ass floaty canopy, and the roof of an appliance factory! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

  21. So, I had this interview a couple of months ago and needed to get my haircut really badly. I dropped into this new salon down the road from where I live and they were able to fit me in that night. Once in the chair - the "lovely" gentleman about to cut my hair ran his fingers through it saying quite fondly, "you have great hair...have you ever thought of being a hair model?" My first thought was, "do you ask that of all your prey?" But I could tell he was serious, with an admiring tone. I inquired what would be involved in being a "hair model" (my time in return for free drinks and food all night!!) and filled out some forms. A couple of weeks later (a week before the Dublin boogie) I was again in the salon, but this time getting "all dolled up". .....They found it quite humerous that except for the pants and shirt - the rest of the wardrobe was MINE!!! Seems they "saw" me in this look even though I haven't had 'this look' for years. I even got a big complement from the make-up artist...apparently I 'took' to the eyeliner much easier than the "women"...of course - when I told him I used to wear it - he didn't seem all that surprised! The hair extentions were fun...I left them in for 3 days at work, then dyed them BRIGHT, BRIGHT GREEN for the Dublin Boogie. If you were there - you saw them! (it sure was fun walking into my stuffy accounting office with the hair for 3 days though - I love throwing reality back in the face of the man!!) 22. speaking of "old ladies and condoms"... My cousin's mother-in-law had a lobotomy after her last child was born (yes, we're talking YEARS ago! They realize now it was simply post-pardum depression, but in NZ in the 60's that's how they dealt with it) Anyway - she used to be a school-teacher before the surgery - very smart. She was sitting at the breakfast table one morning (circa 1990) reading the newspaper when she quite calmly, and boldly looked up and proclaimed.. "it's missing 'inium'....the word is 'condominium'." and with that she returned to her reading - content in her knowledge. My cousin, having read the paper already, simply fell out of her chair. (seems she was reading an article about how schools were beginning to distribute condoms on campus)!!!!! Anyway - to this day you can't mention the word 'condom' in my family without someone telling you "it's missing 'inium'"!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. 23. IMO - I would probably tell them the same thing. BUT if they were obviously so proficient at what they did - I wouldn't give a second thought to having them on the load with me. Chances are - even on their belly - they've probably seen more & had to respond to more stuff in the air than we could throw at them in one jump. But I have to agree - (and I'm stuggling with this myself) - flying your body regardless of position or discipline just makes one a well-rounded flyer... ...therefore, a safer flyer!
