I use a clip from a puppies collar (when my dog was a puppy). One half is attached to a keyring loop, on one leg loop and the other is on the bungee, through the other loop. The general response to this incident on here appears to me to be one of mild disbelief and in some cases dark humour. I see this as one of the most potentially volatile few days in recent history. Whilst what happened in Kyiv over the winter and the subsequent 'civil war' (if you can call it that), is easy for most countries, and more so people, to dismiss as another's business this accident makes it much more real and dangerous. IMO the sanctions levied on Russia were not necessarily harsh enough, especially considering historic promises some made to support the sovereignty of the Ukraine post disarmament. Now we are in a situation where it is clear to all but the most politically naive that Russian backed militia have shot down a civilian aircraft, albeit by mistake. This takes something that was 'their problem' and adds a death toll from many other countries. Yes it was an accident in a war zone rather than a deliberate terrorist action but the reprecussions will still be huge. Putin's typically arrogant response is not helping and the atmosphere in Europe is tense, to say the least. It's easy for Americans (who comprise the majority of users on this site) to be off hand about this but this level of risk has knock on effects. Russia is arguably the one country with the strength and idiocy to take you guys on... I'm back into news watching mode and think that this time that shit could get real messy not just in Ukraine/Russia, but potentially much further afield... CJP Gods don't kill people. Losing a bit of weight may help in general in the long run, not least with fall rate - i.e. how fast you fall in relation to others. I came back from Spain with 17 jumps and completed my final consolidation jump in the UK with no refresher. Take your log books, expect to be grilled and at worst case expect to have an accompanied jump but otherwise I think you should be OK. I went to Ypres a couple of years ago. The locals still play The Last Post and perform a small ceremony every evening in remembrance. I walked in original trenches an saw the broken ground from the shells, still scarred a hundred years on. Truly astonishing place and time. I have had the leg straps slide down my legs just in a sit and wouldn't jump without. I rigged up a small clip (from a puppy collar) onto a key ring circle and elastic to make them easy to clip on and off when switching between freefly and wingsuit. One would assume that his 'minimal movement' dislodged the pin. I'd be interested to know if the jumper, or anyone esle, checked the seating of the reserve pin prior to the jump and whether or not there was a lot of play in the reserve cable i.e. could body movement and flex of the cable within the harness had an effect. I once had a main open in a very cramped plane when I was shifting my body to try and give a tandem room. I had my back to the rear wall of the plane (Beaver) and pushed back and felt it go. I too restrained it until landing, although this being Oz everyone else left the aircraft and I had to manage on my own with an open container! CJP Gods don't kill people.
