  1. Are there a lot of people here who attend tunnel camps? I conducted a camp for horizontal formation skydiving during the Mountain State Boogie at Skyventure Colorado the weekend of Jan 25-27 and it was awesome. It's such a joy to see people improve so dramatically. Let's hear about your experiences attending a camp. Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  2. It will be interesting to see what the big gear stores do with the stock they have on the shelves. Will they send it all back and wait for new product assuming Cypres allows that or just sell it until it's gone. Anyone working for those stores please chime in. .Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  3. Anybody got any ideas? is this some new top secret canopy? No secret. It's the new swooping canopy by PD. Not sure if it's available yet. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  4. Sherry at Firefly makes an awesome RW suit. The fit is great and the booties are powerful. And they hold up well too. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  5. At least tell the whole story. In the first thread the tandem deployed low enough to trigger the AAD. The low deployment is what started the whole thing so why not just blame the AAD. In the second thread the reserve pack tray was dislodged during opening which was determined to have been loosing up over time due to side loaded openings. Lets please tell the whole truth and the whole story so the young jumpers who don't know about these incidents don't just read into this that the Skyhook is the devil. I don't doubt you'll likely respond that they should read these threads - but we all know that a lot people are not going to read these 10 page threads just to get to the truth about these old beaten to death incidents. I know the Skyhook adds complexity to our rigs but then so does the AAD. I just wish we could give full disclosure on everything and not use old incident threads to spread fear. But then that's just me. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  6. I like these suggestions. semi stowless? not for me...I want the lines to be more in control during deployment. I certainly understand your reluctance with the semi stowless bag. I was in your same shoes when the three ring cutaway system first came out. But think about this: in all my years of skydiving I can count on one hand the people who always change out ALL their rubber bands when ever one breaks. The rest of us change them as they break and some of us even hope for that one-last-deployment while we gingerly put the line stow in to keep that band from breaking while we're packing. yeah admit it - you've done it - we've all done it. My point is: our stow bands are never in equal strength. some are new - some have been on our bag since the beginning of the season or even longer. Which means you're in less control not more. I shoot video and have dozens of pictures of out of sequence line deployments - both tandem and sport rigs. I have witnessed and filmed bag dance from strong bands combined with weak bands. Some hang on longer that others. Many of these pictures I have scare the crap out of me and those jumpers I was filming. I'm convinced many off heading openings and line twists are due to the bag turning during the line deployment not the canopy. The bands are only there to keep our lines in place until we need them - which is during deployment. The semi-stowless bag keeps the lines in place and then allows them to play out in an orderly, straight and equal tension fashion. The video I've shot of those deployments are always very clean. When I first saw the three ring cutaway system (before it was actually TSOd and in use) I predicted that some day, everyone would have them on their rigs. I also predict that some day- everyone will be using some sort of stowless bag. Before you make your final decision about the semi stowless bag, please talk to someone who is knowlegable. I think you may just change your mind. PM me if you like. I have much more than I can post. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  7. Really good question. As far as I can tell, leaving less than two feet on the UPT semi-stowless bag does not se to change the openings. I am still playing with that. Anyone else care to weigh in? I've been using the UPT semi-stowless bag since it was a proto type. I have about 1200 jumps on it and love it. It has made my openings much more predictable. I use tandem bands for my locking stows and double wrap them with no more than 1.5 inches of line bite. I love the fact that I don't have to try to measure as I'm stowing my lines to get just the right amount left over. I always sucked at that and either had too much or not enough excess. Now I stack the lines all the way to my risers and then pull out just enough to run the risers and lines down to the corners of my pack tray. It's awesome. I'm thrilled with that bag and with the openings that I know it has helped give me. Line twists are pretty much a thing of the past. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  8. I've been in the sport a few years, still pretty active and have seen all the various "new stuff" over the years. I've listened to and even participated in the debate about Skyhooks. I have a couple of friends - the most recent two seasons ago - who I believe would be alive today had they had the Skyhook. I've heard all the rhetoric about how the Skyhook would/will kill people but have not actually spoken to anyone with any evidence that it has happend. I use the Skyhook and have a couple of cut-aways with it. I think I'll keep it hooked up. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

  13. well if you have ever been on your back spinning, you would remember that centrifugal force builds quite quickly. So as soon as the risers are cutaway the tension you were building is released and you are jettisoned horizontally away from the main. When a skyhook is attached and it works correctly as you travel away from the main, you are also traveling away from the reserve as it extracts (since it is attached to the risers after all). I agree with you JT. I've done the research and have talked with professors of Physics. I believe if more people understood how a centrifuge works and then unerstood how the sudden release of mass attached to and causing the centrifuge affects that mass along with the proximity of the skyhook attachment and anchor of the main parachute then more people would have a new and different perspective of the Skyhook and other types of MARDs. But we must also remember this: A man convinced against his will - is of the same opinion still. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  14. If you're talking about the tunnel at the desert DZ, you're right it's about 90% done. But I think the OP was referring to the tunnel in some mall area. I'm not that familiar with it but it's my understanding that one is running. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  15. I have about 1200 jumps on several of the UPT bags including a couple hundred on the prototype which was/is made by Scott Roberts. I've jumped Katana 120s and now a Velocity 103. I absolutely love the openings. When I first started showing up to places like Summerfest, my packers didn't want to have anythig to do with it but after I showed them a couple of times they fought over who was going to pack for me. I'm confident those who are making similar bags will probably have similar results. I have people with 30 jumps using them. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  16. Contact Brad Cole. You can find him on FB. He runs the rigging loft for Skydive Dubai and he works in the Prince's personal tunnel. Don't even ask to get time in that tunnel. Brad use to work for Skydventure Colorado and is one of the best tunnel instructors in the world. He may not have time to work with you but may very well know who can. He definelty knows everyone there and is a good place to start. I just spent time with him and his wife in Dubai last week. Great people. And I did get to fly in the Prince's private tunnel with Brad. Good luck. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  17. To help hear the radio make sure you clear your ears after you open. This will help your hearing and limit the popping and crackling. Learn the valsalva maneuver to clear the ears. I have to clear them two or three times during my canopy flight. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.

  20. Hi Wade. We have a 206 with a 520 and two regular wide body 182s. The 206 is nice when we have two tandems and one video but we almost never go above 10,000 and usually only go to 9,000 and we only put 5 people in to full altitude. We often have a sixth go to 5,000 and get out on our way up. All of our planes climb at roughly the same rate. I think I would go with another 182 with a P-punk 550. . 23. Wow - this guy is digging out of this turn big time. He was low - even without the flag. He just barely cleared the car and the concrete and if that weight had hit one of those people he swooped over he could easily have killed them. I hope this shit doesn't just get laughed off. This is really bad for the demo business. And then to have him laugh about it afterwords is as arrogant as you can get. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
  24. Bulletin #2 was just released today 10-30-12. All you have to do at this point is ask your husband to check with his team manager and he will be able to provide the answer on the hotel. As far as jumping during the competition I have no answer on that. They are using four different landing sites to accomodate the 1500 athletes. This is the largest World Meet in history and a Mondial to boot. I would not be surprised to see no other jumping going on at any of these World Meet sites. They do have the desert DZ. You might be able to go there to jump. . Be the canopy pilot you want that other guy to be.
