  2. __________________________________________________ IMO you'll not know until it is true. again, IMO, it's impossible to predict what factors will influence that decision. Though physical incapacity would qualify be safe kleggo

  4. [ That round reserve had dozens of little blood stains and the blood stains sort of looked like demon heads. Hee! __________________________________________________ ooh that sounds like Harley's gear ???????????? be safe kleggo
  5. This is dumber than using gear that has bounced! _________________________________________________ ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? why, i used a "bounced" vector for several hundred FF jumps back in the mid 80's. it worked fine, even with the interesting "tie-die" effect. be safe kleggo
  6. __________________________________________________ Contact one of the BASE gear manufacturers if you want ready-made quick-to-deliver toggles. i've used APEX BASE quick grab toggles with good success. be safe kleggo
  7. __________________________________________________ quit your whining look under the "further courses" option in the leftmost frame. more importantly the same area also links to a sweet video on the Birdman site http://www.bird-man.com/?n=fastestmfckr anyone willing to share that location? please email me thanks kleggo

QuoteHere's what I'm trying to say. 150 people making 500 jumps a day off of 300-400ft cliffs... there is almost a certainty that there will be an accident. Serious accident. __________________________________________________ Yuri you are without a doubt, 100% wrong IMO. you would be a bit less wrong if you insert the word QUALIFIED as Ray did above. many of us like to think that "Shit Happens", i've found that that is true after poor preparation or execution which were both obviously present for the incident in question. be safe be smart kleggo
  9. __________________________________________________ i agree, the linked thread gives excellent instructions on how to "soak" the goop of your canopy onto a clean cloth. I have used carbo-sol with excellent results from train track related FOD. I have found carbo sol at well stocked hardware stores, stores other than Home Depot type mega-stores. good luck. be safe kleggo

let's not forget that BASE jumping was a much bigger deal ten or twenty years ago. If you got your BASE number fifteen years ago, even if you only did it in only four jumps, it still meant you were one bad ass motherfucker. __________________________________________________ hey thanks! __________________________________________________ It may not have meant that you were a smart guy or a skilled BASE jumper, __________________________________________________ why you lousy @$%^%*&*(()&) ! _________________________________________________ but it certainly meant you had a certain screw loose in the top of your head that made you pursue a crazy activity. __________________________________________________ screw loose? maybe? adventurous certainly! still learning? you bet! __________________________________________________ be safe kleggo base #93 a "low" number because i'm an old guy. coming up on my 25th year anniversary Nov 7 2007.
  11. KK wrote "I was packing near a young lady yesterday, who had her closing loop come out (No idea why). I guess she survived the jump, because I didn't hear any sirens later that day, but she sure didn't know dick about that gear. And the bad thing was that she didn't really care at all about learning about it. __________________________________________________ hey, cut her some slack at least she was packing her own gear.................. be safe kleggo 4400 + jumps 4400 + packjobs and i've lived!
  12. I'm getting back into BASE and recently pulled out my Super Raven 4. __________________________________________________ Walt Welcome back. It's hard, ( actually impossible ), to stay away, isn't it? be safe kleggo
  13. __________________________________________________ yes Nick, by all means, feel free to follow magot's example and betray Marta and Jimmy's trust and good nature. not likely, i know. be safe have fun kleggo
  14. If everone was a skydiver..........? Bruce Virgin of Cambridge Wi responded "the gene pool would, thankfully, be continually cleansed" BRAVO !!!!! I love it. It's even better than my answer. be safe kleggo
  15. My question to discuss is, do you think BASE will continue to get safer? __________________________________________________ safer? please define. gear is far better / more reliable than when i started in 1982 there is far more knowledge and it is much easier to disperse said knowledge but ......................... it is not taken advantage of in far too many cases. _________________________________________________ What do you think will be the main aspects making it safer...gear...knowledge...something else... __________________________________________________ maturity and intelligence are the key components. remember the guy that jumped a field packed rig in Moab after a TS challenge? remember the guy that did the rollover tard at Moab? both are fine examples of why BASE probably does not fit your probable idea of moving towards safer i.m.o. Do you think we have more to gain if we exercise better judgement and increase our knowledge? i do be safe kleggo
  16. QuoteI was watching a show last night called "Sports accidents" or something like that and they showed footage of an accident that happened at Perris where one engine on the plane caught fire on the ground before takeoff and the entire plane burned. __________________________________________________ regarding this thread and the included link in the post above. i had the pleasure ? of witnessing both incidents first hand. I was in 817 when we were preparing for take off roll at the north end of the runway when the DAC3 threw a prop blade and turned a sweet plane into so much scrap. After we got out and had a few beverages at the old bombshelter we were plenty happy that most of us had survived our first airplane fire without a scratch. John B. , thanks for calling me a friend

    No slider?

ooh ooh i can't resist this one since it's one of my "pet peeves". __________________________________________________ Does no one pack their chute anymore, or do they only refer to it as packing their parachute? __________________________________________________ Some BASE jumpers and MOST skydivers / parachutists definately don't refer to it as "packing their parachute" if they think about it at all They just pay the packer X $ and tell him / her "i've got a 20 minute call to make, can u make it happen?" be safe kleggo
  18. __________________________________________________ what a pathetic little boy Fernando (?????) is, burning our little version of the twin towers. If i was red bull, or any sponsor, I'd laugh in his face and ask if this was the best he could do. a truly lame exhibition of poor judgement imo be safe be smart kleggo
  19. Actually you can. Interestingly a patented design doesn't even have to work, all it has to be is novel IE: Nobody thought of it before. hope this answers your question. Mick. __________________________________________________ mick has an excellent underatanding of patents. What he says is true, though i think that when he typed IE, he might have meant Intellectual Property (IP). There are entire businesses that make boatloads of $$$$$$$$ by simply patenting IP with no true product. As an example consider the company INPRO which has held R.I.M. , the manufacturer of crackberries, "hostage" in IP patent litigation. or how vast swaths of bacterial genomes are locked up and patented by companies just on the possible uses that may be found at a later date for these areas. most "hi-tech" businesses take advantage of this opportunity. many many businesses main value is their IP, whether or not they actually have a product is often immaterial. be safe kleggo
  20. I can't even believe this guy is serious! Am I crazy for taking some caution with who I pass a rig on to? It seems really elementary to me to make sure someone getting in to BASE is willing to make at least *some* effort to learn the right way. Sorry 'skypetey' but if you're not willing to put some effort in to keeping yourself alive, i'm not willing to be the one that gives you the rig you're going to kill yourself with. -Brandy __________________________________________________ you are not crazy, you are following your own personal mores, ( probably a more accurate term than ethics). but what would be your criteria for making a yes / no decision? and what are your qualifications for making this judgement? so many questions. so little time be safe kleggo
  21. The reason I am curious is that I have talked to hard core CRW dogs in the past that swear that, all else being equal, a ZP pilot chute will contribute to off heading openings, whereas as deployments from F111 pilot chute are straighter. I have also heard this elsewhere. __________________________________________________ 2 1/2 years ago i convinced the US. 8 way crew team that we could benefit from using vented pilot chutes. Adam Filipino, then of CR, was kind enough to sponsor us and provided 32" ZP vented pc's. When i recently asked Chris Gay what he thought of the change he said, " they've made a huge difference in on-heading performance, ( that's good). Now Martin Tilley of Asylum Designs continues to manufacture these for the CReW community. They are higher bulk due to the large mesh, 6 external load tapes and mesh vent, but we don't make a competition jump without them. They excel in "low speed deployments" to reduce PC oscillation, just as they were originally designed for in the Fixed Object jumping milleau. be safe kleggo
  22. _________________________________________________ in my casual reading of the posts in this thread, i gathered that Tom was making an "absurd" point when saying that it was possible to use a MAIN ripcord handle, but we would not choose to do so due to the.......... " interesting time managment requirements during a good rotation dive. how's that for one long sentence? it would have been even longer if i remembered the Latin phrase the goes something like (reducto ad absurdum), meaning to make a point by reducing it to the absurd. be safe kleggo

  24. why don't WE take the initiative to let mary lou and others at USPA know that WE want it to occur. If we got 1/4 the response that the disapperance of the CReW awards received, we could probably ensure speed 8's survival. i propose a letter writing campaing, ok a paragraph writng campaign will do......................... cross post this to CReW dogs please Kevin, i suspect that the DZ.com audience may not be quite as interested in the outcome. be safe kleggo
  25. Sorry can't respond to the poll because this option does not exist. Never did it because it was so obviously a bad idea because of pouch / pilot chute size incompatability and why the hell would you want to go stowed if you needed a 48" pc anyway option? be safe kleggo
