  1. Jimmy's pix have put at a number of confirmed smiles on some of my friends after their "firsts." Let alone all the other tandems he's jumped with....... thanks jimmy... matt oh... and he doesn't charge a penny for it either. just hands them a print with the completed video. That's a guy that loves what he does for you...
  2. in addition to photoshop tricks... Digital Ice may help you. I don't use it myself, but i've seen some amazing prints my boss has made with it. matt
  3. it doesn't do anything other then that? i thought there was more to it then just flash to flash, at least on the 8+ year-old sunpak i have for my N6006, it was marked for other metering functions and such. matt
  4. So what is the red panel on the front body for then? matt
  5. we've got buffalos all over the place up here from a few years ago. there's even a heard of them that graze inbetween the junction of the I-90 & I-190. it was some sort of fundraiser, but can't remember from what. matt
  6. I'm glad i wasn't the only one feeling that way this weekend on a jump or two... I was greated with the, "the first part was fine, but what the F&^( happened on the end of the dive?" And the answer... i wasn't being aggressive enough, was getting kind of worn down, and know i've got a lot to learn matt
  7. has anyone tried using a Star filter to deal with that effect? I haven't tried with a digi yet, but used to borrow my fathers a lot when i knew i'd be shooting into the sun. It tended to pull as smooth highlight from the bright spot rather then the hex patterns that reflect your iris. matt
  8. I think there's an IR type sensor on alot of the new flash units that works with many of the new cameras from Canon, Nikon and other brands. Canon's 550EX has, "an AF-assist beam which links to the EOS-3's 45-point area AF, FP Flash (high speed sync), FE lock (a flash version of AE lock), and FEB (Flash Exposure Bracketing)" according to their site http://www.usa.canon.com/ So keeping the front of the flash exposed is important if you want to use some of the advanced features of compatible cameras. matt
  9. i've got to say that when i got my own gear and didn't have to use the student gear any more i almost forgot it was there because mine is so much more comfortable.
  10. you can't see the sheep farm from there... matt
  11. Fiber has made it's way into my life, but from the calls from our affiliates to feed/shoot liveshots.... etc... they're amazed we don't have digital capability yet. At least 2 of the 4 stations one market east of here have digital sat trucks now. Thanks to fiber our master control is hubbed out of Indy starting last week. can you say downsizing. parkervision too but they've both been causing their own problems around the stations. Glad I'm off this week! Matt
  12. here's two for used gear... www.keh.com www.bhphotovideo.com matt
  13. did you see the Zebra one on the wallpaper page? I never thought the flew...
  14. I've never used a sigma lens on a Canon body, but have heard and seen some really good stuff from Sigma lens on Nikon bodies. It'll save you a pretty good buck... just a thought. A zoom lens like an 80-200mm f 2.8 is hard to go wrong with as an all-around lens for work on the ground. Plus with the 1.6x conversion factor you'll get a little more out of it on the long end.
  15. Ever seen an add in some of those magazines for Panasonic cameras with a formation or RW team on the flip-out LCD screens? I've noticed it there too. I just saw a shot in a promo for the Food Network. The National Geographic Channel has some shots of people under canopy and base jumps in some of their opens/promos.
  16. Just my luck... the weekend I have off and a class 4 is heading our way. and it's the weekend of my b-day to top it off.
  17. no dead kittens here, but you've got to give her and genetics credit...
  18. bskyz - looks like fun... Who came up with the Bottle Cap Quartet idea? that's awesome Diva - how did Lew get away with just that scar? Good to see her smiling.
  19. I'll let some other people confirm this, but... on a sony: Steady Shot = GOOD
  20. there is a ton of info on that in this forum, from video to still lens choices and all sorts of theories about each... just run a search or two and you'll find lots.
  21. I second what nightjumper said. I like mine a lot. other then being really comfortable it knocks a good amount of sound down, perfect for loud planes matt
  22. the one jumper with the yellow helmet is taking a grip on what looks like the hackey/boc or container of the jumper closest to you... Or am i missing something? matt
