  1. Understood, and agreed. However, a quick note about the rigger; It was not a careless thing that he did for me. It was completely my decision and I understood the risks. Based on that, I say no harm no foul... No need to start getting all serious about things. Let's just leave this one alone. "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
  2. I literally just walked upstairs from a local news report that said "two men were detained" as possible suspects. No other info... "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
  3. Truly a sad day whenever we have to say goodbye to one of ours'. Blue skies to our fallen brothers and sisters, and my deepest condolences to the families of each. Having just lost someone close to me, I can truly share in the pain they must be feeling during this time of loss. I remember joining this website in early 2000 when I first began jumping and read somewhere that: "if you stay in this sport long enough, you too will experience loss with someone you know". Well, it's happened. I met Bob last summer. Although our friendship was brief, it has brought the reality of this sport to a personal level. Rest easy friend. "pull high! holy run-on sentences... ;) "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
  5. Yup. I used to have a sabre 170 loaded at about 1.3. Canopy had less than 120 jumps on it and was smacking the crap out of me so I had a local rigger put two pockets on my slider (one at the front and one at the back). Granted I don't have the video on hand (I'm trying to dig it up for you skeptics), but I did also track it with the alti. The rigger specifically asked me to record it to make sure the two pockets were going to be safe. I dumped it right at 4 (had the pilot chute in my hand from 4.5 waiting) and as the end cells finished inflating my alti read right at 3k. No shit. I personally welcomed the opening, but when I sold the rig some two months later, the buyer immediately had the pockets taken off. He cited "discomfort" while watching the altitude slip away... So it is possible. Not necessarily safe, but possible. "pull high! It's lower than you think..."

  7. Actually, there doesn't have to be any formal training involved in this. With the scopes out today, one could easily hone their skills enough to hit center mass on a target from a 100 yards or two... I think there's far too little information to create any kind of profile and anyone who says different is basing their opinion completely on guestimations... "pull high! It's lower than you think..."

  10. There's a place and time in my life for both...! :) When you're involved in activities that require support (sports) it's the whites, and when it's time for lounging it boxers... But, when it's time to go out it's the boxer-briefs as the undies of choice... "pull high! It's lower than you think..."

  12. When this happens: It shouldn't! If they can't figure out what address they're supposed to be at, how can we be sure that they'll EVER figure out if we're the ones they're looking at or not! "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
  13. You sure are arrogent and quick to judge when there is something negative taking place in the U.S.... Don't make this into a "my country is" "your country is" thing... Let's try and keep this issue within it's original context cause I doubt very seriously that ANY country or civilization in this world is without flaw... How does the saying go? One bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch... "pull high! It's lower than you think..."

  17. Always check with your instructors first... I remember this level being the one I personally feared the most through AFF. All program long they re-inforced how crucial it was to be able to fly stable and then all of a sudden they're telling you they want you to get unstable???!!! I was afraid I wouldn't be able to fix it. However, it came and passed without incident and I grew more confident in my abilities and the sport. The thing that helped me the most was remembering body position. For my front loop I was told to take my head and shoulders to my knees, and for my back loop I was taught to bring my knees to my head and shoulders. No matter what, it's going to be a little strange cause it's probably the first time you've experienced a different orientation other than belly to earth. The key is just to remember to arch. Rotating, flipping, spinning, just arch...hold it until you're stable..., and you'll be just fine. Good luck! "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
  18. I think it's a great idea. The dz I schooled at didn't REQUIRE it, but it just so happens that's the route I ended up taking. I did one tandem for the fun of it and ended up hooked. Then I did three more tandems that were "working" or "student" tandems where i had learning objectives and a dive flow. Once I finished the four tandems I switched straight over to level 4 a of AFF and didn't fail once... It really helped to have that much exposure to freefall before doing it on my own. "pull high! 25. Strictly based on observations of my guy friends, here's what I've found: It seems as though a guy will say/do almost anything in the beginning to advance as quickly qith a woman as possible. Some of these tactics include, but are not limited to, promising beautiful long-term relationships and vowes to never become that "other guy"... While successful in their venture, this avenue often comes back to haunt the wild male without warning bearing horns and breathing fire. That is, the woman expects the man to live up to all the promises he's made during the trek to sexual conquest and survival of the species (what nerve they have demanding such follow through!)... So you see, then the guy finds himself stuck in a situation that he really has no good reason to be in and must resort to evasive actions to save what little face he may have remaining... Means of retreat sometimes include the infamous "brushing off" of the woman, or "instant asshole" syndrome, both of which happen without warning and are far too powerful to stop once the process has begun. Please note that while I'm a guy and just dropped about a million dimes on men in general, I've never been a part of such selfishness and immaturity! It happens to most guys during the course of maturation. Some men grow out of it and some don't. I guess you could say it's all about timing... One more thing ladies: Before you all start to hate me, I was really just trying to give you an honest angle as you requested. So be gentle... Or not! "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
