  1. I jump because I like math. New pair of pants= 2 jumps New shoes without holes= 3 jumps Not having new shoes and pants to match, serenity as I'm about to "let go". Plus it's fun to guess what people have eaten earlier in the day on the way up Sometimes it makes me hungry.
  2. +1 Wildbill, don't beat yourself wishing he would of came to you for help before his life took a wrong turn, you can't go back or predict this would happen. Cherish the time you got to know who he really was before his mind was altered with drugs or possible life problems that were exasperated by drugs. You now have, and the people you share your friends story with, a powerful lesson that maybe at least stray one person from following the path your friend took. I had a friend (who got into hard drugs) who I had to almost strong arm to a mutual friends funeral that overdosed, to give him a taste of reality. A few months later he overdosed. Sometimes there's not much that you can do, drugs are a hell of a god to worship. Don't kick yourself wishing this or that would of happened. Share your story to help others, that's all we have left aside from remembering the good times. The best to you, this gentleman's friends, family, and sky community who are affected.
  3. There was an old polish couple that lived in my neighborhood that my brothers and I always helped out as kids. We always thought they were weird prior to getting to know them, helping them in their old age. They'd always be seen washing their dishes outside from rain water collected in drums from their rain gutters. Later to see their rain collection system in the back of their home too that they'd use to fill up their toilet upper with. As I got to know them from helping them I found out they were both holocaust survivors that had met towards the end of the war in a death march. If they were caught eating snow (to stay hydrated) during the march, the "guilty if this crime" and others that were behind them were shot in the head as an example. They had found a piece of rubber along the march which they fashioned into pouch. Collecting snow when they could, putting it in the pouch and using their body heat to melt the snow to drink water. Water was and still was until they passed away the most precious thing to them. They taught me to drizzle water over my hands as I washed them instead of running the faucet full on (works well and saves a lot of water). They'd only let me wash their car when it was raining out and to this day, unless I'm going to polish and wax my car, I'm out there in the rain washing my car. If I don't finish my glass of water, the rest goes in the dog bowl. Showers are quick and at low pressure, not full blast, just like washing my hands routine. Point is you don't need a fancy machine to save water, just a change in daily habits. Two amazing people that let me into their lives of horror and appreciation for the simplest of things changed the way I'll always view water and life. Water is life, don't waste it, even if you can afford to.
  4. -The sweet smell of falls leaves -Smell of manhattan during the summer -Deisel from the train yard we played in -Armpit smell, I was a kid when the eastern Indian-Americans started moving in -The smell of new grip tape in my skateboard -The smell of fresh bread, use to help load up a delivery bread truck before school for the old man baker -The smell of newspapers I delivered -Mothballs at my grandmothers
  5. So let's hear some of stupid shit you have done, maybe some won't make the same mistakes. Lesson I learned today: Just because my girlfriend isn't home and I'm cutting my hair naked in the bathroom, and there's a vacuum I plan to use to clean up, doesn't mean turning on the vacuum and putting my junk in it is going to feel good! Damn powerful Electrolux sucked it up violently That shit hurts, nothing sexy about it at all! DONT DO YOUR VACUUM! Had to turn it off to get it out, I could imagine the terror on my face

    Food question

This post is about me. I dipped my chip into your chili just to try it because you said it was good, and you wouldn't touch it after that...........as if I contaminated it. I asked the waiter to bring a new bowl (because it seemed to be contaminated) you were so offended that I dipped my chip in it. You turned it down. I am so disappointed in you right now that you would bring this up on a public forum. So don't sit there and mislead people. You are being ridiculous. But did you double dip the chip? Ate part of it then dipped it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWuSi00CcNk&sns=em
  7. Hopefully all works out well for you with Paypal. There really should be a "sticky" when you click on the classifieds about using a 3rd party (rigger) to make large purchases, how to do it too. Some people aren't aware of the scams (not directed at the OP) like newer jumpers. One scammed is too many.
  8. Don't worry about free flying yet. The speeds are increased, you could slide into another groups airspace not knowingly (lack of any experience) and possibly kill yourself or others. There's already enough ways to get yourself hurt. FF will be there when you're ready. As others have said practice what you we're taught, get use to the sights and sounds, pulling stable, on time as planned, etc. During my first couple jumps I thought I was "safe" when my canopy opened and was square/flyable/landable. The more I listened and read (dz.com) I realized you're not "safe" until everyone had landed. I set my first goals to be the best canopy pilot I could be for my experience level to hopefully avoid a possible canopy collision, land in a bad spot or on someone. I did a lot of H&Ps after AFF, some at full altitude (super fun), to get to know the limits and boundries of my canopy. I asked instructors to give me ideas what to try up high/different landings in different conditions and to watch and critique each landing. Know your limits, ask about everything first before you try it (not on dz.com, but from your instructors first), respect the mistakes from the fallen and learn/practice as much as you can. The reaper is right behind you waiting for you or someone else to make a mistake. Don't try too much too fast, you can achieve your goals/ambitions of FF with time, experience and practice. Know the basics to save your ass first, pulling stable on time and making your canopy your savior. Just my .02 cents from a 284 jump jerk, but I can relate because I wanted to do a lot at first too, the jumpers I respect showed me how to get there.
  9. Put up some signs saying to please respect the neighborhood, keeping the volume down at night. We had a dog poop problem in my neighborhood, some people wouldn't pick it up. All the neighbors put some money into making signs to clean up after their dogs. It lessened the problem soon enough.
  10. Another tip for applying shoegoo is to put a nice bead or layer (whatever you need to do) on the dry surface, smooth it out with an ice cube. You can push the goo into the seams and get a nice flat smooth surface as your finished product. Been gooing my skate shoes for the past 20 years
  11. I was only nervous about the door when I first soloed (no instructors), for the first few times. People throwing themselves out before me makes me smile for some reason, maybe cause its our idea of fun I asked when I first soloed to help with the spot a few times. Kept my mind off the door by putting myself in the door. Shouldn't make sense, but it gave me a job to do and a partial responsibility with the aid of another experienced jumper. If your comfortable with your dive flow, checking your handles (way up, right before you climb out), checking altimeter against others altimeters, blah blah, ask if you're able to help out with jump run. Own the door. I got over it rather quickly. Be safe, listen to your instructors!
  12. Dude, seriously....10 x on just AFF3? That's a dismal record, bro. "She" (guineapiggy101) went on to do a few more AFFs and realized jumping solo wasn't in her best interest safty wise. She went on with the love of skydiving doing a bunch of tandems since. I'm not sure if she still is, but her decision makes her a heads up skydiver in my opinion.

    Juicing

+ 1 on the blender. The juicer you lose all the fiber from the fruits and veggies, a waste in my eyes. Plus juicers are a bitch to clean, not worth my time (a friend has one). If you go green smoothies or juicing, start off slow (one a day). The body detox from the green goods can lead to small headaches and other annoying detox symptoms. I got them for about a week when I started them, bit worth the good results I feel a few weeks later with no more symptoms of detox crap. Edit: you don't have to use all greens in them, I usually use spinach and fruits, yogurt, almond milk and some granola. Just throw whatever in that works for you.

    Ripped Off

Try calling UPS or the carrier of your package. You might be able to get your tracking number using your name/address. Who knows, maybe he got robbed of his computer or phone and doesn't have access to the Internet. Maybe, he's in the hospital or something, shit happens. Whatever the problem is for the lack of follow through, I'd wait to bash him. If the said package was giving to UPS on a Friday afternoon at the latest, it gets shipped on Monday, the end of today is the 6th working day en route. I'd give it a day more, giving across country ground is at worst 7 days to me. I'd try calling the carrier though first. Good luck!

  18. Dude can you post that video? http://iloveskydiving.org/view/videos/friday-freakout-parachute-opens-catches-on-plane-tail/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbEyBLs9fdc&sns=em Be safe up there!
  19. +1 Hate the white sock. Mine are all dark colors, black, dark grey, brown, some strips here and there. If I get lucky I might be wearing a matching pair, with or without shorts. I just grab two from the draw, makes laundry easy not to search for its matching one too and fold them together. As long as they work like socks and aren't white, I'm ok.
  20. Maybe the kid learned something from your good deed of being a stand up guy. Maybe he'll pay it forward one day if he's in your situation. Spelling simple grammar*

    Stress

That's the whole point, the cold will shock your body and release a host of good chemicals.

    Stress

I concur with exercise. Go for a strenuous hike in the woods, get away from your normal environment, enjoy the silence. You live in PA, find a river or lake *with friends* and jump in, release some feel good dopamine. Ive done it a few times this year since moving back east, really changes your mood positively.
