I once broke my toe while landing, a very serious incident! Do I blame the company that made the canopy, or the company that owns the DZ, or the manufacture of the sandals I was wearing, or mother nature for putting the rock in my way? Ron, outstanding thread btw! I was on a coach jump...we were last to leave...saw how far out we were...gave the finger(pull) about 1000 ft early. Saw my student open...then pitched at 4000. @ 1800 ...my canopy opened. Lucky it was facing towards the DZ. Only 8 line twist (on video) cleared @ 1300 and wasn't spinning. I made 1turn @100ft to final. The opening was so hard my ringsite broke my nose and hip ring brused my back. Should have hit reserve at 3 ish. We all live on borrowed time. Love your friends while you have them. Last night I pulled out an old log book and laughed my ass off!!! My phone hasn't stopped for two days from friends that I haven't talked to in a year or more! All of them are in that book! OK, #1 Do you have any bones sticking out? Are you alive? Then you did not FAIL! So you need to repeat a level....big deal! You get to hang off a plane in flight again! COOL!!! #2 Is it possible you de-arched while looking for the handle? Many students do. Hold your arch! Watch the plane fly away while you pull, that will keep your head up. Plus it looks really cool when you see your instructor with a shit eating grin on their face! #3 if you miss the 1st time try a 2nd time but dont look down! #4 HAVE FUN!!!
