    Holy crap.....

I didn't see the part you found funny, to each their own, however that saying goes. I saw something similar happen in 2001 to an Air & Space 18A Gyro while I was taxing on my first solo. It was one of my instructors and her student. The Gyro shook violently like the video, rolled and broke landing gear, then rolled on its other side slamming the rotor/blades into the ground. Ugly mess. It was ground resonance (uneven rotors) that made it shake up violently. Lucky no one was hurt badly in the incident or the one in the video (from what I could see).
  2. Id go with Skydance, Davis or Bay Area Skydiving, Byron. Did my AFF at Skydance. Loved it, the instruction from the instructors was very thorough and safety conscious. If you go during the week it's a bit less stressful being not super busy, more time to spend with your instructor on the ground. The guys and gals at Action Air rigging shop (across the courtyard from Skydances hanger) are really helpful getting/ordering gear. No bullshit or attitude from them. Skydance also has canopy control classes, hence their safety conscious attitude. From what I hear from other jumpers it's a really valuable and fun course to take. I hope to make one this year. Byron is cool too, the jumpers and instructors. Didn't have any instruction from them, but friends that had said it was thorough as well. Check them out too. Choose a place that makes you happy and feel safe. Have fun!
  3. Parents lying to their kids about eating their halloween candy and video taping it for their own personal enjoyment is no different than lying to their kids about Santa Claus and video taping Christmas day with the kids sense of false happiness that Santa really did come. The lie is told over a series of year for the parents personal gain whether it be to make their kids behave year round because Santa won't come if they're bad, or to sway their kids into religious beliefs with presents. Kids nowadays don't have issues because they've been lied to or joked with by their parents. It's actually a good life lesson to learn I think, that anyone can lie to you. The crying kids in the video seem to be the product of being spoiled and overprotected, a false sense that nothing bad can happen to them, their only way they know to react is to cry in a situation they don't approve of. Bad parenting. The kids later in the video that explain what's wrong and dont cry seem to have a grasp on how to deal with a situation they don't approve of. Good parenting. You have grown adults in this world that are cry babies and you have adults that know how to deal with life. Comes down to parenting.
  4. Get with Shah, he can stitch that up with some fishing line for ya.
  5. I do use super glue to seal up knicks and such. This cut I could peel back the skin (dr. said it was almost to the bone, and did x rays in case i damaged the bone) and fit like a half of a penny in there if I wanted to. Plus it was super dirty from whatever sliced it open on our bikes. There was no way I could of cleaned out any oil or dirt properly. The location of it is a flexible part, maybe the reason for stitches. And I needed antibiotics for any infection that could come of it.
  6. I was mountain biking yesterday about to hit a 3 foot jump, got hit midair by another biker from behind. Rule is the lead biker has the right away hitting drop offs or jumps, the biker behind aborts the jump. Two trails merge to a jump in the jump area I was in (my trail directly to the jump, the other trail you have to cut over quick to hit the jump). Bad timing for the both of us or bad judgement call on the other biker you could say (he cut over to my jump). I get up to see if hes ok, and likewise with him. He saw my hand bleeding (I didnt feel it). Pulled back the flap of skin to see how bad I was cut, needed to get sewn up. He was apologetic, admitting he wasnt paying attention because he was trying to keep his head steady for a time lapse video with his Gopro. Turns out he didnt even have it turned on (I asked for the video), and it was his first time using it. Nice enough to walk with me to my car and load up my bike for me and offer to pay for my injury (insurance covers it though). Glad no one got seriously hurt other than a few bruises and stitches, but Gopro people, PAY ATTENTION!...... I see more and more bikers with Gopros for some reason recently (Dont open attachment if you get squemish about blood or the likes)
  7. Damn. Someone needs to teach that kid survival skills, cause hes just set up for failure in the real world. Growing up on the poorer side of town in Jersey if I ever wanted anything I had to work for it. Preteen I was delivering newspapers at 4:30 in the mornings 7 days a week, even in the brutal winters. Then before school I would walk to the local bakery, help the old guy load up his truck for the days deliveries for $5. Wash dishes after work at the restaurants. Shovel sidewalks and driveways in the winter. The local hardware store would hook us up with free bags of salt and sand if we shoveled a few of the older neighborhood seniors walkways for free (and out of respect). Teen years I started working in a woodshop after school and on the weekends learning a trade. I knew the rents couldnt afford to send me to school. And thats how it was for people in my neighborhood. The elders looked out for the young ones and we would help out where we could, teaching us early to work hard and the value of a dollar. Moved out when I was 17, went to night school to finish my diploma, and worked full time. Everything that was taught to me by the older Irish and Polish blue collars, and my parents tough love made me the self made man I am today. And let me say the first night I had my apartment and made myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was the best damn sandwich I ever ate. Guppie01, toughin' that kid up! Make him a man, obviously no one previously had tried to. The longer you let him catch a ride for free the more youll be paying financially and the harder to break him. Be a role model, not a friend. The best to you and your situation!
  8. 2 to 3 weeks from order date you can have a UPT rig, if you dig camo. http://www.camorigs.com/category/skydiving-containers.html
  9. He'd encourage me to downsize and limp away to go make me coffee.
  10. Ill get my stuff back though renters insurance. I dont wish them a horrid death though. At the time they posed a threat, yes, if I had an opportunity I would of attacked to save myself. Theyre nothing to me now. Theyll end up dead from their fellow hoodlums or the police, or wind up in jail. Matter of time. My justice is going home after an honest days work, and taking a five minute walk down to the shore/beach with my dog enjoying a beer and watching the sunset. While the hoods live in some shithole run down ghetto because they decided to do nothing with their lives except stick up people for petty cash that makes them feel tough. I feel sorry for them somewhat.
  11. I agree 100% Most of our lives consist of dealing with bullshit... It isn't till when you are faced with a gun to your head that life becomes real..."this is it...my life depends on this moment and this moment alone...no fuckin' around." Exactly, subconsciously all the decisions I made was based on that. The brains survival mode let me see things so clearly, condensed all of the current situation and future actions that needed to take place from my reactions all into one decision to pinpoint the right decision. If that makes sense. The brain can think so quickly its amazing. Staying calm, whether it is my brain naturally doing it or me staying calm, really helped to get out of it. (JerseyShawn here. Had to make a new account. Changed all my passwords to everything because the thugs has access to my phone for a few hours before I had it shut off. Forgot my DZ.com and Gmail.com passwords already).
