  1. I am a self employed IT contractor and no income tax is deducted at source. So at the end of January when all my tax forms will arrive I will begin reconciling my income versus my expenses and sometime in early February I will know exactly how much money I owe. It would be different if the Feds owed me money, in which case I would file early. But because the shoe is on the other foot and I owe money, I wait until the last days in April before I file my return and send in the taxes owed. 2. No complaints. The Habs (team I have been a fan of since the early 70s) are tied for first place in the East well on their way to a decent playoff seed. Biggest surprise? The play of the Cowtown Flames when compared to their inter provincial rivals Edmonchuck. Of course the Flames still have a tough road ahead to ensure they make the playoffs. But the fact that the are in the hunt still is encouraging for them. Of course if they get too good, I might have to begin cheering against them again. But they are not there yet. 3. I have been contracting at an insurance company in the IT department for the last three years and was recently extended for another year. The CEO of this insurance company is a woman. The CTO is a woman. The director of the IT department is male and so are 2 of the 3 IT department managers. 100% of all the Business Analysts in the IT department are women. 100% of the Business Analysts are full time employees. Also while I don't ever visit the regional offices, because I support the Commercial Auto Insurance Application I helped develop, I have access to the user roles and preferences database tables and part of my job is to monitor the application via the log files and about 75% of the Underwriters who use this application are women. 50% of the IT desktop support staff are women and 100% of this support staff are full time employees. As far as the developers are concerned (this would include myself), none of the developers are women and only about 20% of the developers are full time employees. It's not a bad company to work at. The people are good, the work is interesting and I am definitely not asked to work crazy hours. But in summary, you can see while not all managers are female, the senior positions in the company are held by women. The majority of the people working at the company are women and there is not a single woman in the entire company who is a contract worker while the majority of the men who do work here at least in the IT department are only here under contract (myself included). The end of men? Not yet. The beginning of the end? Perhaps. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Only time will tell if the Buckeye's defense can stop Oregon's hurry up offense. If they can cope with minimal time between plays where substituting their defensive players will not be possible, then OSU wins. If they can't handle the hurry up offense, then Oregon wins. 5. Mid way through the 2nd quarter of the Sugar Bowl, it was beginning to look like another snoozer. But Ohio State woke up and it was a entertaining game. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. The 2015 Rose Bowl Game was painful to watch. Not because I am a Florida State fan, I'm not. But I wanted to see a good game, I wanted to see an entertaining game. But it was anything but good and entertaining. Not to take anything away from Oregon. They played well. But the 2015 Rose Bowl was a stinker. I can only hope the Sugar Bowl game is more competitive. We'll know if it is in a little over three hours from now. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  9. I would say this ruling by the Oregon Supreme Court was made by people with little real world experience outside of the sheltered legal world they live in. I doubt very much anyone from the ski resort told the individual behind this lawsuit that he had to jump off of that ski jump. The dude likely clearly made the decision on his own to launch himself off of the jump. How many people read the waiver on their ski pass? I know I don't read it every time, but I have made a point to read it. The only difference between a ski pass and the sky diving waiver a Drop Zone uses, is the DZ asks the participant to sign the waiver. So I doubt DZs should be effected here. But neither should ski resorts. What's next? $10,000 daily ski pass to pay for all the legal challenges fools who do dumb things at the resorts, get hurt and then decide to sue? In a past life, I was a volunteer ski patroller (as well as one year when I worked as a full time pro) at the Banff Alberta ski resort of Lake Louise. I have worked my share of nasty accidents and let me tell you rarely is there an accident on one of the black expert and/or green novice trails. The vast majority of the accidents occur on blue intermediate trails. Plus the accidents tend to occur at two times of the day. They occur just after lunch when the drunks get out of the bar and decide he we have been drinking, now let's go skiing. Dumb asses. The other time when accidents occur is at the end of the day when people are tired and they let their guard down on these intermediate trails which often become icy because the people who use intermediate trails don't know the difference between a carved turn and a skidded turn and often don't maintain their edges. I wonder if the lawyers and judges behind this ruling ever stopped for a second to consult the people who live and work in the industry? Or did they base their ruling from their white ivory towers looking down on all us commoners they rule over. More dumb asses, these fools who work in the legal systems across the land. 10. Looks like a shopping mall crawler. It's got the right tools in terms of blasting away people who take up two parking stalls. But there is hardly any clearance on that Jeep (probably because of all the weight due to the mounted guns). How could you possibly crawl over the disabled vehicle in that thing. That Jeep is in desperate need of a bigger and better lift, bigger tires and chop off the fenders. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. As tragic this day is for the two victims, their friends and family, the other hostages, their friends and family and all of Oz, it's just another day in Islam where gunmen storm a school in Pakistan and proceed to slaughter 126 children and their teachers. http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/taliban-attack-on-pakistan-school-leaves-126-dead-1.2874449 Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. You're trolling, gotcha. The US Civil War and the Boer War had their similarities. They were different wars of course fought for different reasons. But in both cases the Confederate States and the Boer's fought for their way of life against an outside superior armed invading force (The Union States in the case of the Civil War and Great Britain in the case of the Boer War). Of course in both cases the Confederate States and the Boer's felt they were entitled to enslave the black population they controlled at the time and in both cases the Union States and Great Britain didn't exactly treat the blacks all that fairly themselves. Great Britain were the first in the Boer War to use concentration camps for not only the Boer population but also the blacks where a great many people died in these camps. Of course the big difference between Nazi Germany's concentration camps was that the Nazis wanted to kill the prisoners. With the British where many people died, it was strictly due to British negligence and incompetence. They didn't actually try to kill their prisoners, they just didn't seem to care when people did start to die. Of course the USA had nothing to do with the Boer War, so I guess I am offside in bringing it up here. I only bring it up because it had many similarities to the US Civil War. 13. I thought I had made my opinion already that the 7 Year War (also known as the French Indian War) was one of the more influential wars, except that someone said I was playing the "What If" card and well yes my whole premise of the 7 Year War is based on "What if it had not been fought" and/or "What if the French had won that war". But if you want to talk about dates does September 1st, 1939 mean anything to you? LOL Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Well if you won't let me use "What if"s, then I guess I would agree with GeorgiaDon. From an economic view, WWII was the most influential with the Civil War having lasting effects. But lawrocket does bring up some interesting points about the Cold War. What if (sorry I could not resist) the Cuba Missile Crisis had escalated. 15. That is why I said it was a difficult choice. Without a doubt the US Civil War was a game changer and who knows what would have happened had Lincoln not been assassinated. But it is ironic that during the reconstruction years when a lot of blacks migrated north, all of a sudden the white people living in the Union states had to deal with the realities of all these free black people living among them. The blacks weren't re-enslaved, but the whites in the north weren't very receptive towards the freedoms the blacks were promised. It wasn't for almost an entire century before the blacks gained the rights we know of today. I'd say the French Revolution had just as big if not a bigger effect on the common person when it started the end of the feudal system. But the French Revolution itself was a cluster fuck. It allowed a commoner Napoleon to rise to power, but then the little corporal then turned himself into Emperor. In a little over 10 years the French went from one Monarchy dictator to another dictator. Napoleon believed in equality, but he certainly did not believe in Liberty. I am still of the opinion that the 7 Year War was a huge game changer for the world and it all started as a small localized squirmish. If the 7 Year War had never occurred, would the French dominate North America? The English Colonists had superior numbers to the French, but the Colonialist were confined to a much smaller area and French had the Indians as their allies. If the French had not mismanaged their Indian alliance, I doubt the English ever would have been able to defeat the French, there would not have been a Revolutionary War, no Civil War. The Great War as well as the Second World War would have had a completely different dynamic. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. I know this is a global website, but it is dominated by US people and well Canada, USA, Britain and France all share a common history. So I am just curious what people may think. Which one of these wars was the most influential war on US culture? Which war caused more change to the US as a nation? There are many other wars which were omitted from the list (like the War of 1812 as an example), so I have included "Other" as an option if someone thinks the list above omitted a war they felt equaled some of the wars mention in the poll. Most of these wars had a major impact on the US, but which one do you think had the most impact? It's a tough choice as arguments could be made about a number of these wars as being the most influential. For me I have to start at the beginning. For me our modern world as we know it might not be the same if history did not happen the way it did. What if the "7 Years War" also known as the "French Indian War" never occurred? What would North America and for the matter the rest of the world look like today if all of Canada was still controlled by the French and/or the Indian people were never driven from their lands. I am sure eventually the Colonials would have gotten sick of Great Britain and rebelled like they did, or would they have rebelled? Without the "7 Year War" Britain might not have needed to raise taxes like they did to pay for the debts the war incurred. Perhaps the Colonials would have learned to like Britain and instead we would all be driving on the left side of the road. Perhaps instead of driving on the left side of the road, we would all instead be speaking French? Napoleon might have been able to squish the English had he had access to the resources of North America (though Britain's naval superiority may never have allowed this). Perhaps the battle of Waterloo might never had happened? Perhaps the little corporal would have gone on to dominate the world. Of course Remi would probably approve of all of us being French, but what about the rest of you? Etes-vous heureux vous n'etes pas Français? So what war do you think made the biggest impact on US culture? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. While I definitely can not be confused as being a young'un, I am not old enough to remember seeing Gene Bellevue (LOL) play outside of a DVD video of a classic Stanley Cup finals Habs game I have from the 1950s. But Jean was larger than life for us Habs hockey fans growing up in Quebecistan, in the Dominion of Canuckistan. There is probably only other player from the Habs organization who rivaled Beliveau and that would be Maurice "The Rocket" Richard (another guy I never really got to see play the game). RIP Jean Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Hard to believe people are arguing about this. Anyway, the "Imagine Dragons" rock band just put on a spirited performance during the half time show of the 102nd Grey Cup Game. The what? The Grey Cup ... Canada's smaller version of the Super Bowl football championship game. The Dragons did not lip sync their songs, their instruments were definitely plugged in and well there were no wardrobe malfunctions during their 3 song set. Of course they did perform in a dome stadium at Vancouver's BC Place. The Dragons might have declined the offer to play the Grey Cup half time show if the game was played in one of Western Canada's outdoor stadiums where in Calgary it is currently -20C, Edmonton it is -19C, Regina is -24C or Winnipeg at a balmy -20C. Argue that. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. But is it their webmail account or their mail client? Your friend's computer has been hacked. It's best to let them know about it so that they can take action. If you don't know your friend all that well, just ignore the message and hopefully someone close to them will let them know about the problem. 21. Darwinism? Agreed ... I don't have a problem with people having loaded guns in the home. But keep them out of the reach of little children who don't know any better. If we need to keep harmful household chemicals away from the little ones, it only makes senses to keep loaded firearms away from them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. What's that rope hanging out of your grill? The winch line for vehicle rescue sticking out of the middle of the front bumper? or are you talking about that very thin thin line in the picture on the driver's left? It could be water, though it is more likely to be some sort of twig picked up along the way on the trail. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  24. I can't ever remember a scenario with a parliamentary system where a majority government voted itself out of power on a non-confidence vote which forced an election. It's only when a government governed with a minority mandate, that this sort of thing has happened. Of course here in the Province of Alberta, recently the governing party who had a majority mandate forced the sitting Premier to resign from office after a spending scandal broke out. So while I've never seen a sitting government vote itself out of office, I have seen a sitting government (very recently) force it's corrupt leader out of office. Now in terms of the OP's question in this thread asking is there a difference what party the POTUS comes from? Fundamentally I would say no, it does not make much of a difference. My opinion is that the POTUS is nothing more than a puppet. But I don't ever remember Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton or GWB ever shitting down the throats of some of the USA's traditional allies. As flawed as all the past Presidents were, they knew not to insult their allies in the world. The same can not be said about the current incumbent. 25. It's something that should have been approved years ago, but wasn't because of politics. However now that the Democrats got trashed in the recent mid-term elections, they suddenly approve of the idea of building a new pipeline? Do we need to remind some of you of the existing network of oil and natural gas pipelines that dot the map of North America? Map of the existing pipelines in North America These are not new pipelines, they have been in the ground operating for decades. Keystone XL is just yet another pipeline in a vast network of existing pipelines. But for all of you who think stopping Keystone XL will close down the Oilsands, think again. Even if Obama vetos it to appease his Hollywood friends, if the bitumen won't travel from Western Canada to the Gulf of Mexico via a new modern pipeline, it will still get there like it currently does. It will get there by rail. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
