It's a VERY clear case of improperly accepting gifts.
It's a VERY clear conflict of interest (even though Crow's & Thomas' 'interests' don't actually conflict).

It may not have been a clear-cut business interest, but Crow invited several other power brokers to these events/trips who did have direct or secondary interest to the SC's calendar and/or opinions. (Source: news broadcast -- I can't recall at this point who those additional parties were, or what interest they had.  Tough to take notes while driving)

Thomas says that it is OK.

Thomas was a disgrace the day he sat righteously indignant in front of the senate judiciary committee.

Wait till you find out Crow was Thomas' mother's landlord after he bought the property from his mother, his late brother and himself.

It looks as though this Crow fellow is bringing new meaning to the term "friend of the court". More like patron of the court.

The Roberts Court is now officially both illegitimate and corrupt. This fiasco is such a national embarrassment.

I suppose the court system has always been heavily politicized. When I read about various justices being nominated I am often surprised at the senate battles that have occured. To my eyes the most objectionable thing is the Federalist Society and it's success in vetting judges throughout the federal system leading to the very contentious rulings lately that are part of the culture wars. And clearly the D side has responded by learning the game and is now feverishly trying to fill as many seats as possible with nominees they see as being on their side. But they are not nearly as organized about it as the other side has been for the past 20 years. This is just another aspect of what is required by your call to fight back. And Dianne Feinstein seems to be too proud and stubborn, possibly too senile to realize the roadblock she is causing by refusing to step down.

Well, maybe we should all just give the Roberts court a little slack. It turns out that they make less than 300K a year. We are talking about top level law talent here. With such low pay some of them are going to feel entitled to a little side hustle or even moonlighting. No wonder they never retire, they are already on a fixed income like a poor pensioner.

Yes, he had to get a patron to buy his mom's home so she could get free renos and save on taxes. Perhaps thats why he vacations in Walmart parking lots.

A sad story all around. I wonder if Thomas buys the no-name or the real Kraft KD in the Walmart?

Oh mon dieu. Are you suggesting that America is both a justice and culinary wasteland?

Lord no. Kraft Foods is an American company. They know we are such wasteland that KD sounds good here. The best things that have ever come out of Canada are butter tarts and poutine. And butter tarts are nothing more than poor substitutes for pecan tarts while poutine is just a way to use up unfinished cheese. Our cuisine is pretty plain, you can only cover up so much with maple syrup. I mean hell, our best known restaurant chain is a freaking donut shop.

Not sure what "our cuisine" would be, country is pretty large to have one cuisine. But I can tell you there are a few Canadian cuisine restaurants with Michelin stars, so it can't be that bad.

Clarence went 10 years without asking a question during oral arguments. Got to wonder if he became more involved once the money started flowing.

Things are getting a little more serious.

Investigators are looking more closely into his finances and they found something very interesting.   He has been filing tax forms claiming that his family received hundreds of thousands of dollars in rental income from a management firm called Ginger, Ltd., Partnership up until last year.  However, that firm - a firm associated with his wife - shut down in 2006.

Now, filing for rental income is usually done so that you can deduct business expenses like mortgage interest, repairs, depreciation etc.  If he has been getting that income from his sugar daddy AND claiming such deductions - that's tax fraud.  And as organized crime figures know, if they can't get you for (say) bribery and graft, they will get you for tax fraud.

Well, it has become obvious why Thomas spent all those years on the bench, never asking questions; He didn't need to ask questions! His handlers had already instructed him in how to vote.

And here is the next one. Looks like SCOTUS has been for sale and Clarence isn't the only one. I wouldn't be surprised if more is going to come out. Have a feeling the Republicans aren't going to be very interested in "draining the swamp" and the Democrats as usual can't get their shit together with Feinstein refusing to resign.
