To whom should I give my money?

Recommended Posts

Every fall, as sure as the weather turns cold and the leaves change colors (okay, none of that stuff happens in Florida), federal government employees receive their applications to give to a variety of charities via the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). I received my book today and am trying to figure out who to give to this year. I am already generously supporting the EWOM&M fund (Ex-Wife Old Milwaukee & Malomar fund, it is tax deductable), but am looking for something else to augment that. Would love to give to JFTC, but it is not listed. Some that are include:

The Tailhook Educational Foundation
- Mothers telling daughters not to go to Tailhook Conventions?

Siamese Cat Rescue Center
- Do they turn them away if they are not siamese? Sounds a little too specific.

Alley Cat Allies
- In case you aren't included in the Siamese rescue?

1 Way Out of Pornography - Buy it all up?

Pheasants Forever
- Possible upscale supper club?

Two that did stand out are the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (41.8% of all donations go to Admin and Overhead) and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (0.2% of all donations go to Admin and Overhead). The yin and yang of efficiency in the charity arena.

Right now I am leaning toward giving it all to Helping Hands: Monkey Helpers for the Disabled. Always wanted to buy a monkey.

Anyone want to make a pitch for their favorite charity?
Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

That's the one to give to!! I really couldn't believe that's ACTUALLY on there. I can't remember...what's some of the other hilarious ones?

Seriously, I know Ducks Unlimited is on there and you can look for The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. You don't have to give a shit about Ducks or Elk to support them. They do a lot for habitat. Especially the Elk Foundation. They have actually bought many thousands of acres to stop developement in Elk habitat. Ducks Unlimited does heaps for saving wetlands. That's pretty important since we will probably all die without those.

I'm ignoring the content of your post and just replying to the subject. The answer, of course, is "Me!"
Or even better give some to the
B.P.F.C.-Foundation.
Its a foundation which helps the poor children in the western world to have a goal in life, and gives them the means to achieve that goal.

(Buy Parrot his First Canopy Foundation). :(

Heh, thats funny .

United Way is a rip off. Why not just give directly to the organizations that they dole their funds out to without them as middle man taking some of the money for their own outrageously high administrative expenses.

If you work for a large corporation, they get hit with requests from every charitable organization and everyone with a psuedo-church. Imagine the problem for a national corp like Verizon. Guessing 4,000 organizations contacting them? United Way is way to let someone else distribute money without taking any heat for being "biased" or "un-caring" by a party with an interest in getting more.

I am relatively new to Skydiving, but my other passion Drag Racing has a charitable organization called D.R.A.W. (Drag Racing Association of Women) that is set up to help out Racers and their families whenever they are hurt or worse in the sport. They help out with medical expenses, lost income and set up college funds for children who lost their Mothers or Fathers to the sport.
I am surprised that there is not a similar organization for Skydivers.
