  1. Thanks very much for the input guys. You answers are very much in line with what I thought I would get. Which is helpful. I will order the correct bag for the container.
  2. I have a Vector V348 with a brand new Crossire 149. I am thinking of getting a semi stowless bag for it. My question is. The parachute is a real SOB to get into the bag. Would it help me to move up one bag size to ease my pain? I realise the bag is made for the container but would it harm to put it in a slightly larger bag?
  3. Here are some of my most memorable places I have jumped. Demos and bandit jumps not included. 4. Here is my list of Skydiving Names. No particular order. Scratch Garrison Roger Hull Roger Nelson Jerry Bird Bill Booth Norman Kent Ted Strong Dan Poynter Jack Gregory Mike Mullins Tom Piras Carl Boenish Pat Works
  5. I am a flat packer. I have never had a cutaway. Coincidence? I think not.
  6. I load my Pulse 170 at about 1.4 and have to agree with the PD conclusions. My brother who also flies a pulse (190) and I have been discussing this all year. We will get his modified and see what difference there is. I sure would have liked this for my 170 though.
  7. I am 54. After a 11 year break I started jumping again in 2007. After trying out various canopies I settled on a Pulse 170. Nice light toggles on a fun flying wing has been the perfect combo for me. It is also a dream to pack. I am about 190lb in the skin. My elder brother has also just converted over to a Pulse 190 and is very pleased with his choice. Makes for hassel free skydiving.
  8. You cant beat Empuriabrava for a skydive/holiday. http://www.skydiveempuriabrava.com/index.php?id=2
  9. 10 years. Swooping has been banned. Swoopers will now be using speedriders and hills. The smallest canopy for skydiving will be ~150.sq.ft Freeflying will be out. RW (FS) will be in. Ripcords are in.
  10. My brother started jumping last year after a 25 year break. He bought a brand new Pilot 168. Although he could fly it will and land without problems it was a bitch to pack. so This winter we swapped it for a Pulse 190 from a kid who was keen to downsize. (last we heard he was unable to pack the pilot ). Seems there are so many larger canopies going cheap from the "I must downsize" crowd I might just trade in my old Pulse 170 for a newish 190.
  11. Same applies. I would not enjoy being taken out by a guy with a hang over either. If I got injured by a guy with alcohol or drugs in his blood I would not be happy about it. I think that is fair. I have been around DZ's for 40 years so I am not unaware of what goes on. I have even done it myself. but nowdays the margin for error is greatly reduced with high speed skydiving and high speed canopy flight.
  12. There are only a few Norwegian DZ's open now so guessing which one it is should not be a problem. Today my biggest concern in skydiving is being taken out by a hotshot in a small canopy. I dont want to go to a DZ where the hotshots might be potheads as well.
  13. I think yesterday was the last day to comment the new proposal. I imagine the new rules will be published soon.
  14. I have > 400 jumps on my Pulse 170 loaded at 1.3 - 1.4. My next canopy will probably be a pulse. I think PD could fix a few colors for the bottom skin by now.
  15. I jump a Pulse 170 and occasionally a Pilot 168 zpx. I find the Pulse easier to pack.
  16. ***, The program seems to beg for a cost-effective solution by considering models used in other countries. I think this is spot on.
  17. Me and my brother are flying down on Thursday night.
  18. There might be but I doubt it. I am coming up for my 500th jump on my Pulse. The only reason I would change it is to buy a different colour.
  19. I now have about 400 jumps on my Pulse. It is the perfect canopy for me.
  20. Rather than get him to say you are fit to skydive. You could try to get him to say "there is no medical reason why you cannot skydive."
  21. The lucky lucky bastards. Double that and you will still be paying less than me.
  22. Here is a thread from when I washed my rig. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3989523;page=unread#unread
  23. FJC No. 1. 1977 lasted 3 week ends with a couple of evenings every week. Jumping was on the last week end. During the course we had to get our packing certificate (rounds) and pack 5 reserves. I cant remember but I am pretty sure we jumped with the reserves we packed. 40 jumps FJC No.2 was in 1981 in Florida (cant remember where, small DZ) Took 8 hours. Very good course, very professional. Ruined for me when an experienced English jumper bounced in front of me. 0 jumps FJC No3. was in 1982 at Sibson UK. The course went on on Saturday jumping on Sunday. OK course but it was a bit like a factory. Not much fun. 1 jump FJC No.4. was in 1983. was with the british military in Cyprus. Very nice course but the instructors were a bit bossy. I took this course to get myself current so I would qualify for a free conversion course to square parachutes back in Norway. 4 jumps FJC No5. was in 1984. This was a conversion course from rounds to squares. By this time I had more experience than the instructors. 20 jumps FJC No6. was in 1985. AFF. At about 65 jumps I realised I was not going to make it as a S/L student. Jack Gregory was my instructor. Great course and I did not have any major problems. Goes to show you should never give up. 1200 jumps FJC No.7. After quitting in 2005 I started again in 2007. FJC in Sebastian Fl. Very competant people there. Approx 500 jumps and counting.

Here is a quick list of some of the main points I have registered while washing my rig. It is a quick list so I am sure I have left something out. The rig was very dirty and in need of a good wash. The rig is totally black. Colours I will not choose for my next rig. I removed hook knife and packing card prior to washing. I have washed my rig in a bath. The reserve has remained attached to the risers. 1)Remove the reserve. It is a pain to have it attached. 2)I used zip ties to tie the reserve slinks together. I also covered the meter of reserve line with plastic to keep them dry. The reserve was also protected. This worked well but it would have been better to remove the reserve completely. 3)It was important to keep the reserve and lines higher than the rig in the bath. Otherwise moisture would creep up the lines. 4)I tried with one type of wollite type soap (Liquid) first. The results were disappointing. The water did get dirty and I rinsed it out thoroughly but in drying I saw that not all dirt had been removed. Maybe I used too little soap, Water was too cold, or the soak time was too short. 5)Second run was very successful. I used a different soap (powder) and a bit more than the first run. The water was a bit warmer (still lukewarm) and I left the soak period a good 4 hours. The water turned very dirty and the rig came out very clean. (I followed UPT’s instructions slavishly) http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46 6)Rinsing the rig is important. It takes many more rinses than I thought. I have a black rig. If the soap was not totally removed it left white marks. (the white marks were not soapy to taste.) 7)Once I got the soak times right it became almost unnecessary to use a brush to get the dirt out. Soaking is better than scrubbing. 8)When the rig is wet it is difficult to see if the rig is worn or dirty in some places. The wear on my rig is on the leg straps and on the reserve cover. I will not let my rig lie reserve cover side down on the ground in the future. 9)If I could have found someone to do the job for me it would have been money well spent.
