  1. I agree that the tounge and bite switch do not have good quality builds. Actually I think they are fatily flawed in their design. The problem is that the membranes are too easily damaged. Since the membranes can be punctured, thus rendering the switch inoperable, then the switch does not have much of a chance. Now the blow switch has the firing mechanism safely tucked away from the parts that are in your mouth. This is a much better design in that no part of the actual switch is ever in your mouth. If you bite a hole in the tube you can still blow past it and activate the switch. I just dont like the design or the reliability of the conceptus switches. I have spent far more than I ever would have had I just bought a quality product to start off with.
  2. I agree that the quality on the tounge and bite switch is not good. The membranes are to susceptible to damage. I have had both type of switches crap out on me right in the plane. It is very aggrivating. Now take the blow switch. The mechanism that triggers the switch is not anywhere near your mouth. You can do anything to the tube you can think of in your mouth and you cant hurt the switch itself. I would advise anyone who makes or buys a switch that they get one that does not have the triggering mechanism in the part that will be in your mouth.
  3. Im interested in it. I just need to confirm a few dates to make sure there would not be any conflicts. When do you think you will have a definite date for the event?
  4. Thats ok. I ran my post through a spell check first just so I didnt makr any mistakes.
  5. I think you lost the point here. Im not saying you have to college. Unless you want to learn how to spell. Maybe you should not take things so seriously.
  6. I just started reading this thread and could not let this one go by. Its just too funny!! ***Don't go to college. That was my technique. Did apprenticeship instead and got paid while I learnt a trade
  7. I am in Augusta this week. Where are the fun spots and does any local jumpers get together during the week?
  8. I will never own a one piece suit again. Like Mark said, get the two piece. I have a different top for each type of dive I am doing. I even had grippers put on my pants and tops so that everything I use is multifunctional. Also, for the video guys who also do tandems, such as myself, it is a huge time saver and I can quickly change from one type of dive to the next.

  10. Is anyone planning on being there Friday? If so, what time do people start showing up?
  11. This sounds like it might be pretty fun. And since Im only a little farther from Augusta than from my home DZ I think I could make this work. Havent done balloon jumps in a while. They are pretty cool. The ride up is worth the money. I will be in for both jumps.
  12. I voted "other" Go into debt up to your eyeballs and do everything you want.... Maybe Im not the best one to give adivce
  13. The way I have seen it run before is, if the weather is good and you dont make enough jumps to cover the boogie then no refund. This is because of what Ian said. There really is no reason not to break even. But if the boogie gets overbooked or the weather gets bad, then refunds will be made. Again you should always verify this, but I have seen it done this way in the past. I have seen people walk away from this paying $8.00 jumps in the end.
  14. Do you know who sells the blow switch and how much a new one costs?
  15. I have done close to 100 jumps with my Gatorz now and I wear contacts. I have never had an issue. The only time I get any kind of wind in my eyes is during a tracking dive. But I get that with most goggles anyway. The one thing I havent liked is that the lenses have gotten really scratched up pretty quickly. Although, everyone else I know with them has not had this problem. I only wear them jumping and store them in the protective case...? take that how you will. They are expensive so....
  16. If you just sew a mirror on to your wrtist strap of your Alti then you dont need a LANC port. If you are only using it for the cam eye that is. Plus you can get some shots of yourself with the mirror!!
  17. If you are looking for a good deal, here is one on slickdeals.net. Its through Dell so it should be verifiable and reliable. Here is the link to the offer. http://www.slickdeals.net/#p5973 Scroll down a little to where you see digital SLR's listed and see how they have the coupons and deiscounts stacked to get the price they have listed.
  18. I live in Georgia and have wriiten stuff off on my taxes for the past two years. As far as I am aware, for Georgia of course, you can write these things off. The wrtie offs do go under a special part of the tax form, not sure where as my father handles all this. But, I have wriiten off gear (rig, jump suits, altimeters, cameras...), travel expense, packing, cell phone charges pertaining to my work. Main thing is keep all your receipts. Get receipts for your packing. You can go and get a cheap reciept book for this. Just remember, if you pay any one packer more than $500.00 in one year, you are required to give them a 1099. (work this out somehow) You can make yourself into a cororation, but this is not always helpful. In my case it would not save me any money as I do not make squat as a professional student. But there are some liability issues that you can be "shielded" from throgh incorporation. Again if I get sued, there is nothing there anyway, so I will worry about this issue later. These are just some of the things I have found along the way, of course I would advise that you talk with an accountant who knows the laws for where you live.
  19. Where do you get your fabric from for making jump suits. I want to try and make my own and need some codura from a good source. I have already made a couple of versions and want to expand on the design.
  20. My tounge switch recently quit working and I purchased a new one. When I got it, it would make the camera keep firing. So I sent it back and got another one. Same thing. I started looking at it and noticed that the new ones are stereo plugs while my old one is a mono plug. I have the Canon Rebel G. Does anyone know if this is the problem or do I have another faulty switch. And if this is the problem are the mono plugs still made?
  21. I have put around 300 jumps this year on that set up with the PC-101. The only problem I had was the foam padding was not thick enough and I had to add another layer to it. This was not to fix a vibration problem though. What was happening to me was when the air was forced into the box it would tend to push the camera away from the side of my head a little bit. This was causing my sighting to be slightly off. But after adding some more cusion to it, no more problen. I am very happy with this helmet. As with any new set up, there will be a learning curve as to setting it up exactly the way you want.
  22. Or the next time your at the DZ see me and I will give you one of my patented .05 screws.
  23. I wish Thomaston would get more restaurants. If I have to eat at one of those 3 one more time I'm going to beat my head into the pavement Quote Ill help, I will even buy you dinner at your choice of one of those three places.
  24. I think I have it going now. Thanks everyone for your help. I understand now what the layers are for and how to blend things around. Like everyone says, now I just need to play around and figure out what everything can do. Thanks
  25. I can crop an image, but I have another pic that I want to place that cropping onto. The previous post describes how to work with different layers of the same pic or file. My question is: how do you place one pic from one file onto another pic of a different file? Thanks for the help so far.
