They could fail a gate check at many points during the progression. Everyone that Wingsuit BASE jumps started with 0 jumps so we know it is possible, the journey and pace is normally determined by the individual. We are providing a focused road map with coaches for individuals that are able to give a 100% commitment for a period of time. The training doesn't just include the skydiving side of things but also the mental and outdoor skills. Not everyone that applies for the program will be admitted. I was landing a few weeks ago, center of the open LZ...winds were brisk but nothing to be afraid of. I had just touched down and turned around to see if anyone was coming in hot behind me when...the jumper landing 30 feet to my right had a collapse about 25 feet up. The thing just snapped then folded, it was nowhere near re-inflation when that guy hit the ground. Knocked the wind out of him but nothing broken...I walked back in with him. Not sure I agree about the back flying. To me that's like saying to be on a serious belly jump you should have a good sit. No doubt it makes you better, but it isn't for everyone and it has safety issues. Respecting a good progression is as critical as it is in canopies. As we see over and over again that often goes out the window. Also, not everyone needs the goal of a huge suit. The bigger the suit the less you can actually do with it. It is a distraction and it could and will take your attention from a gear check that is more valuable. That should also mean you don't jump with a GPS and you don't jump with a iPod...no gadgets or additions that are a distraction. That is the real point. I had an experienced (800+) friend doing a specialty jump this weekend and the first advice was for him to leave the camera behind. He didn't even spend a second disagreeing because he knew why that advice was given. At the end of the day there is a BSR. If you don't agree with it and think that different cameras should be treated differently then you should make your case to the USPA. It isn't money well spent in my opinion. They are now unsupported from all I can tell and will be obsolete quickly. I don't regret getting mine but I wouldn't recommend anybody should buy them. I have found the peak speed to be useful for some very specific training. The G\R on the flysight beats them hands down and offers a lot more. I like that altitude is pressure based. When set correctly that is somewhat useful for preserving body position. Not the best reason to get a pair, if the N3A was reliable it would be a better option. If you are going to only get 1 of these devices then go with the Flysight. It is much better designed for detailed analysis of performance and the tone is better suited for feedback I think. The best device would be something that combined both...plus a few more options. I do like the Recon for seeing speed and altitude without moving head position BUT I have also found some of the speed numbers to be misleading, not sure why. The use of an eye for Recon isn't as big a deal as some people are making out IF you use it on the right kind of flights. Leave it behind if you are going out on a flock.
