  1. Why did you turn it on on 3500 ft???? I would have jumped without it, or if you don't find that comfortable, ride the plane down! The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  2. Shouldn't that be: "If at first you do not succeed, skydiving wasn't for you?" The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  3. I know the "skate" helmets, without the ear cover. At our DZ, students are not allowed to use these, because the helmet with ear covers provides essential ear protection from the risers. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  4. I don't have any problems, but I don't use mine very often. If you want to get longer lasting or cheaper batteries, you should go to your local electronic shop (L&B recomends it themselves) The specification for the panasonic batteries they supply you can find at http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/battery/oem/images/pdf/Panasonic_Lithium_CR2330_CR2354.pdf their nominal capacity of 265 mAh is about standard. My next batteries will be from the local shop, they have slightly less capacity ( 260 mAh) but cost Euro 1,80 per battery, instead of the euro 3,5 per battery at the regular para-dealer. (makes a difference of euro 3,40 per replacement!) The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. 5. I don't know exactly when they changed the pro-dytter, but larsen and brusgard, could tell you this (email them, their customer service is the best I've ever seen in this world) But the first always stayed on, and couldn't be turned off (I had one). Not a big problem, unless you drive over hills etc. on your drive to the DZ. Come to think of it, I'm already at my 3th pro-dytter. 1st was stolen but I was insured
  6. Oh... I always thought it was an standard on my javelin... ... I stand corrected.... The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  7. Mostly I agree with you, but not on this one... First I didn't say do agressive aproaches (not a good idea to deform your wing, when you need it most) Second the moment my wing stops moving air, I fall to the ground. The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  8. Yes it is. You need as much speed as possible. This way your "wing" can move as much air as possible (giving you lift). The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

  10. Last year, we searched for them also, we eventually had our own made. So now there is a company in the Netherlands that makes them... The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  11. Already said but: Go with your instructor on this. To answer your question: I recently did a controled 180 degree flatturn at aprox. 40 feet. I jump a contrail (full eliptical) 135, with a 1.6 wingload. One thing your instructor will brief you on is slow (braked) aproaches. You need this too (at least for the way I do my flatturns), after i've done my flatturns I'm in 1/2 to 3/4 brakes and need to flare from there... The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  12. to add to that: Don't forget he's already used to a higher wingload form the first jump..... The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  13. Hey Kolla, You're here too, didn't know that....
  14. Don't forget you also have clothes on and eat during the day! Go with skygod's advice, Don't forget you may feel comfortable onder your current canopy, but you don't have in under control yet, at least when you have bum landings and landings outside the peas, while it was possible (OTHER TRAFFIC!!) to land in the peas. (But our peas is a circle 30m / 90 feet across) The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  15. Hmmm.. without wanting to start a flame war, try to do the following: Image you decided to buy a rig, you know it's wise to jump a 190, but oh... that 170 looks tempting. No, I'm gonna be safe(r) and get a 190. Now I need the rig itself and maybe it will fit that 170 too, so later I can jump that canopy in the same rig. Ok got that into your mind? Now imagine having 60 jumps, 200-300 jumps is a LONG way into the future (that's alot of jumps!) so downsizing well, after I know this canopy let's say 150 jumps is alot of jumps, maybe I can go to a 170. Ok got that too? Both you and I know 150 jumps is shit in terms of learning to know your canopy. At least 300 jumps in not to many years and you know the basics of how it flies. Remember that also! No read your post thinking like a guy wich I described above, now how do you feel about that 170? The point I'm trying to make is that we should stop learning people that it is normal to get smaller and smaller canopies. I've got nothing against small canopies, I love them! But it takes great skill, knowledge and experience to fly and use them safely. A worldwide problem at the moment is people are flying those smaller canopies without getting the "oh shit, I'm gonna die" experiences with canopies in which they can safe themselves. It's all about attitude! The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  16. Sure, Why do you hate this guy? You obvious want him to inflict serieus pain on himself! He says he wants a 190 and you tell him to go to a 170..! Sure you said downsizing, but how many jumps before you know a canopy? My rule of thumb is at LEAST 300 jumps and that's not much even... Nothing personal towards you, but I'm really starting to hate all those ambulance rided and funerals I'm going to latly.... The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...
  17. jumping with 2 AAD's.... wow.. talk about being safe.... But then again, you probably mean AWD's.... The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die...

  19. Ok, a little smalltalk, but it applies here... I never forget this incident..: We had a young skydiver at our DZ, nice guy, but a bit overconfident and not too bright. He didn't have his own equipment, so he always borrowed some1's. One day he couldn't borrow one of his "Regulars" so he got one from a big guy. You should have seen him standing! A big rig on a small guy, everything as tight as possible and it was still lose. I was standing in the office, and other instructors were already talking to him, so I just watched from a distance. You could see he was stubern again and just wanted to get on the load. Then when of the instructors who was also looking from a distance walked up to him, didn't say anything, pulled the shoulder straps apart (without loosingen anything) and the rig fell down between his legs. He then walked away without saying anything. You should have seen the look in the little stubbern guy! I thought I was going to wet my pants.... .... ah well stories....
