  1. Charlie has been doing that 90 270 since the mid 90's that I know of. I learned a little something from him back then. At that time I even jumped his 98 Batwing, I was about 240 then without a rig. And no I did not fly it like he did, I jumped it on a breezy day and barely did a 90. He could always get a lot of speed on that turn.
  2. That was my first thought, as well, when I heard what his injuries were. A very high percentage of elderly die from (complications from) broken bones below the waist. I hope you are doing better every day.
  3. They reported non-life threatening. I can tell you that a broken pelvis could very well be life threatening. He is 72 years old, the surgery is a risk and blood clots could be a real issue. I had surgery on my pelvis just short of two years ago. Because I was non weight bearing for 3 months a having right leg immobilized I had blood clots along with a pulmonary embolism causing a heart attack struggled a bit. I wish him the best. He did the best he could to put it down safely.
  4. I too was in a motorcycle wreck May 23rd 2013. I fractured my pelvis and my back in six places. From your story you sound like you are healing well. My wife ask the Doctor if I would walk again, he said he could not give a definite answer that it would be up to me. I was able to take my first steps after 3 months in a hospital bed. I spent four weeks in a rehab hospital. I spent two more months in a hospital bed and wheelchair. I went to physical therapy for ten months and to this day I do stretching and the prescribed exercises from my therapist. On a good day I can walk 100 feet and sit up for maybe a total of 30 minutes. I still hope to get better, I will not give up. Everyone is different in their ability to heal and the exact nature of their injury. I am sure I will never jump or even ride again. You sound like you are healing well. Most Doctors probably would not release you to jump, in the end it is your decision. There are others with these types of injuries that have returned to jumping, I hope you will be on that list.
  5. You sound very knowledgable. There is too much information that is unknown. Yes, the best time for questions is right after the jump. May I suggest you get video on your next jump, it will be easy to review and may answer your questions.
  6. Remember these are milestones in a great sport, just pay your dues and enjoy the friendships. You will have a lot of new experiences as you stay in the sport, not all of them are beer worthy. Take care of the milestones and the rigger when he has saved your life and enjoy the sport.
  7. I too was in during the cold war. I spent two years at a front line fighter base in Germany. Even though I was never shot at I do consider myself a Veteran. I have much respect for anyone who has put on a uniform, and being a Patriot Guard member I have had the Privilege to stand in Honor of many Veterans, past and present.
  8. I wonder how can you get experience videoing tandems without doing it. Just get your Tandem I or AFF, you can then find out what it is like to be a sitting duck under a drogue. It is a helpless feeling to have a mindless meat missile making passes at you. Everyone seems to be in a hurry to put a camera on their head. Hone your skills, get your ratings, then jump a camera.
  9. I didn't vote because there is not a 500 jump option. Instead of being in a hurry to jump a camera, put some effort into learning to skydive. Skydiving doesn't have to be all about how cool you are, it can be fun also. Just have some fun, learn a little bit and you will some have the ability to make jumps with a little added danger.
  10. Pat in Oklahoma there were also DZ's in Muskogee, Tahlequah and Sallisaw. The latter Moving to Siloam Springs Arkansas.
  11. I have done mainly diving exits from all aircraft except tailgates. I am 6 feet 2 inches tall. Hook up kneeling. Walk on knees until pretty far forward. Have student put right foot out while I put right foot out. Have student turn their body to the right while putting left foot out. Put my left foot in corner of door frame. Tell student to give me a thumbs-up (and smile at video person if used.) "Ready, set, arch". Dive toward the rear. I have them practice by putting them in the airplane and doing an exit while pretending I am in back. It allows me to see if they understand turning toward the back while putting the left foot out. Ok, here is the expected pontification: My briefing to the student is that their eyes will tell them that they are doing a front-loop because we go so far head-down, but that they should trust their arch and a front-loop is unlikely if we do it right. I tell them about where the wind is coming from, and that we are "skydiving sideways" in the relative wind for the first few seconds. Having them know this means that they understand the exit and will be less likely to have a bad body position due to being nervous, because they understand what the arch is helping do. I used this same method all the time. It is easier and makes for great exit shots for video and stills. Facing forward always seemed more awkward and the step scares the student.
  12. I was working at the Nationals in Muskogee in the late 80's when Jims plane crashed. Mullins tail-wheel went south and they had to tail-wheel from Jims plane shipped to Muskogee.
  13. In the end the planet needs to be fed. That is why there is bounce food. You choose to ignore good advice in favor of feigning a word game. You should heed some advice to be safe, but I am sure you will do what you want even if it kills you or somebody else.
  14. You are much too important to skydive. Just stay home and safely make your important calls.
  15. I would say about one foot,
  16. He who dies with the most toys is dead, hardly one for the win column.
  17. If you are a student, why is the DZ putting you out at sunset? You should still have a jumpmaster there to make sure you are doing things safely. If the DZ is just filling a load to make money, losing student equipment is the price of doing business.
  18. I jumped Charlie Mullins 98 Sq. foot Batwing in the early 90's I was about 250 at the time. There was a good breeze at the time and no one went on the load. They all wanted to be on the ground when I landed. Charlie was upset after that because he couldn't get anything smaller to jump at that time.
  19. Here is a picture of Curly and Terry Goode in Sallisaw after water jumps.
  20. Scott there was a DZ in Sallisaw OK that had Calvin and Hobbs tail art. Here is Hobbs Calvin did not want to be added to Hobbs

  23. My D license says Master, doesn't make it true. Always great to lower the bar, if you don't want to do night jumps, water jumps, CRW or anything else, then you don't need the license. Just shut up and jump, a piece of paper will not help your skill level.
