  1. My instructor told me to pull after I had passed through the c*&^% (industrial haze) which really turned out to be more like a ten second delay. "And by the way, he added, if you get into any trouble out there, just pull your reserve." "Are you kidding?" I thought because the main was a square and my reserve was a round canopy. I had only jumped squares on the 5 previous static line jumps. Anyway, I became unstable really quick. As I approached the reference point, I pulled the main ripcord. I kept my boots together as I completed the backward flip through my risers, the chest mounted altimeter struck my nose but the canopy flight and landing was uneventful.
  2. Congratulations! Sounds like an auspicious beginning. Harry
  3. I'm not deaf. But, congratulations on all of your skydiving accomplishments.
  4. Man, sorry to hear about that. It's good that you were in church. Did you have any kind of insurance on your gear? At any rate, I hope (and pray) that you get your gear back. Harry
  5. Switch to static line progression. You'll save money, get your studies done, progress slowly enough to get everything done on time to get your own gear, etc...
  6. Yes, many times... (Fire extinguishers are for people, not equipment, etc...
  7. Looks like he had a nice time. I'm happy for the both of you.
  8. Way to go Mike! I've never done CRW but always wanted to try. It must have been a rush to do the canopy formation. Harry
  9. Great thread labrys. On about jump #30, I was under canopy attempting to read the (windsock?) which was made of WDI paper. Instead of following in the experienced jumper, I came in the opposite way. I hit feet, then butt, slamming my hands into the ground. I fractured the third joint of my right thumb. A good PLF would have benefitted me. Lesson learned. Harry
  10. You mean you had a jumpmaster in freefall with you? What a luxury! When I spun like that, people from the ground said: "It looked like you were falling and you couldn't get up." My freefall progression (following 5 static lines) went, good jump, bad jump, good jump , bad jump. and then finally more bad than good. Harry
  11. Happy birthday Dave! Whew! It's nice to see other people growing older. Harry
  12. Hi Bill. You mentioned that you would "crouch down." This would cause a restrictive problem preventing you from inhaling to TLC (Total Lung Capacity). Therefore while crouching down you were not taking in enough air (and therefore oxygen). As you discovered through experimentation, a slow, deep breath with an inspiratory sigh is the best way to improve oxygenation. It allows more time or O2 to cross the A/C (Alveolar/Capillary)membrane. This is the prescribed method of oxygen therapy for anyone who is taking a breathing treatment, IPPB, nebulizer, etc... A pulse Oximeter measures the O2 saturation of the capillaries inside the nailbed. An arterial Blood Gas will give you the amount of Partial pressure of O2 and Co2 that is in your blood. Hope this helps. Harry Robinson CRT
  13. Hi flygirl. During the ride to altitude I pray for everyone's safety, even the pilot's. So far it has been successful everytime. You'll find christian skydivers who will jump with you. And non-christian skydivers who will jump with you. Enjoy them both. Love in Christ, Harry
  14. Hi. I've read your question and all of the subsequent replies. I've got a friend who is currently taking AFF. From his input about the course, I think that he'd be better off doing the static line freefall progression. And he'd spend less money. Just an observation. Harry
