  1. Oh, prove it My son is at his second week of camp - this one is National Youth Leader Training (Boy Scouts)... I just hope he learns to clean up after himself Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  2. She??? Well, "she" was in the wedding dress Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  3. I jump mine with the regular chin strap. Feels fine to me. The helmet is great overall I think. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  4. We had a guy come out with his girlfriend and family wanting to propose.. I knew it was going to happen and was taking her for a tandem... The family set up the sign... I had three questions for her: 1) can you see the sign on the ground - yes; 2) do you understand it - um yes; Do you want me to land right there, or go somewhere else to land She dedided to land there and said yes... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  5. I just finished ours this February... I used the Create-a-bed and it was a great kit. It comes with instructions and the cut list. All you have to do is make the cuts and put together the puzzle. However, this thing gets pretty darn big and you will definitely need two people to move it around for finishing and then to get it inside and setup. I attached photos of the complete project and then a couple before finishing. I would definitely recommend the Create-A-Bed setup. But, the $300 kit will be your smallest cost... I used cabinet grade plywood and poplar. You are going to be at $1K by the time you trim (basic) and finish the bed. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  6. That's OK Skymama... My wife was talking to her hair dresser last week and the hair dresser noted she wanted her own place maybe with spa services.. My wife suggested she could name the new place "Happy Endings" Every lady in the shop busted up lauging - after a while they even told Annie what it meant Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  7. I also heard you guys took the camera crew on tandems afterwards - very cool...
  8. The best ride - well most memorable... Truck and horse trailer - on a minimum security PRISON!!! The "farm worker" could only drive us back to the "office." Where we could call from security and have someone from the DZ come pick us up. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  9. Wow, he looks really good after that year of hard work.. I also used Skydiving to help me get back into shape.. Easter 2009 to March 2010 I lost 70 pounds and I used being able to start jumping again as my reward. However, I started the process because I was just sick "literally" of being over-weight. Now, it's a year and I still need to watch what I eat and keep on exercising. I make up my food most of the time before work and before going to the DZ. My ultimate goal is to break a long cycle of gain weight than have to work my butt off [literally] to get back in shape. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  10. I haven't got down to your neck of the woods for many years... Maybe I need to get out and do some skydive traveling this summer. It would be cool to check out the new diggs in Taft
  11. If he had black socks on, the picture would be perfect
  12. That was perfect - Well Thank You, I will have another drink
  13. You are right - that was a "typical" DZdotcom snide remark and I appolozize... OK, Positive, critique, positive... -GREAT JOB finishing your AFF and Welcome to the sport. -As others have suggested, speak with others at the DZ and get a feel for what you are looking in to. I started jumping then worked with a rigger and packed to pay for my first instructor ratings. Then worked with the first rating to earn the next one... However, one injury (and a lot of instructors have had more than one) can really set you back.. So, I would still advise any person to continue with a 'day' (or night) job, continue your education, or look into some other vocation along with skydiving. Even Skydiving as a 2nd job is a tough one to make a "living." -I'm glad you are so excited about the sport and you should stick with it and share your positive experence with others... -->Ok, that last "positive" was a little tough to choke out Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  14. Sorry, I did not know what the "track that way" signal was.. Looked like the signal we teach for pull Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  15. Nice of the instructor to give you the pull signal 3 times in the L6 video... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  16. Polar makes many different training computers/monitors. Pick one that you will use and has the functions you want. My suggestion is to also find one that comes with the Polar WearLink®+ transmitter. It is much more comfortable than the standard T31 transmitter (plastic strap). After years of use, my T-31 finally died and I paid the extra money for the WearLink. It is a much better unit, more comfortable and I get much more stable readings from it.. Works great for the wrist computer and the machines at the gym pick it up. I use mine every trip to the gym - just set the machine for the heart rate I want and go... 17. Hey Alek, you can't go wrong in Eloy.... There are places to stay food and a wind tunnel.. There are also other great DZ's in that state if you are limited to a certain area, but if you are planning a special trip for skydiving, Eloy is a fine choice. Have Fun Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  18. Bertt, Well, at least I said to check with their instructor first (keeping with the other rants in this thread)... So, yep, I agree with you that about 1/2 the stuff here could be taken seriously... I just come here to see if there are any new boobie pics I still like the part of the DZ video when the little computer guys said "Dude - I'm totally flamming some guy who wanted to down-size his canopy"... I'll I know about this place is that everyone here knows more than me Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  19. Go watch the "Dropzone dot com: Behind the Screens" video.. It says it all Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  20. Please don't take any anti-sick stuff before AFF.. Check with your instructors, but I would not want to jump with someone who added stuff to his system that may slow the reflexes. I have even felt sick under tandem, as student and instructor.. It is just not comfortable.. You will probably be fine during AFF.. Eat a normal breakfast, take plenty of fluids to drink and plan on a healthy lunch or snack.. You don't want to "not eat" because the stomach acid will kill you.. Have Fun. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

  23. You can call the number referenced on the USPA link above.. Shorter answer - for 500k of life insurance and jumping Less than 50 times per year; the quoted cost to me was $165 per month. Yes, the cost goes up if you are jumping more than 50 times per year for their Term Life. All some risk calculation... I was told "The flat extra is the additional cost for skydiving. It is $2.50 per $1000 for those that dive 50 times or less a year and $5 per $1000 for those that dive more than 50 time in a year." Therefore, if you wanted their insurance for more than 50 jumps per year, add and extra $1,250 per year to the total cost (about $100 more per month for those who don't want to do the math)... They will get your general information over the phone and then send you a quote page with three different companies.... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  24. Very cool - from Static Line to balloon jumps in just a couple of months... Great Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  25. Well, I chewed tobacco off and on for about 20 years… I even got busted for dipping in the military more than once and had to work service hours. Then, back at school and work I seemed to be chewing the entire time I was awake and not eating. I chewed all kinds of brands, even some Swedish stuff that was like fine powder/snuff. Back on topic – I decided to “quit cold turkey” in 2001. Completed my AFFI and threw away ½ can of chew on the way home. Feeling very proud of myself, I thought I could just “do it.” Well, within three days, my wife threw a pack of Nicorette gum at me and said I had better chew the gum or get out because I was being an ass (probably meaning more of an ass than usual). I tried the gum for a week and it just did not work for me – the cravings still were a lot for me and my family to deal with. Next I looked up on line if the Patch worked for stopping smoking and there was pretty much NO information out there that compares chew to smoking. So, I went with the thought that if I needed to chew so bad it impacted people around me, I was pretty bad off and the highest dose was a good place to start. I picked up a set of patches for heavy smokers. The program called for something like 6 weeks of step down in dose and was not super cheep… But, wow, I put the first patch on and could feel the tension leave my body from missing the tobacco… I went through all the step-down doses and never needed the gum or patches again… Sometimes I still wanted a dip, but just remembered how tough it was to quit so I didn’t even try any more. I’m still not chewing tobacco after those 9 years. I’ve gone through weight-gain and loss, and other stuff, but didn’t start chewing again… Sorry for the long story, when I could have just said go buy the patches .
