  1. My son has a Pilot 168ZPX.. It fits in his Icon I4. I had a Javelin sized for a 150 main. The 168ZPX fit in the Javelin just like a Sabre2 150.. Interesting Note - I think that new ZPX material may actually be/feel more slippery than new Zero P... My son nick-named his canopy the "Slippery Bastard." as soon as he started packing it... Put about 100 jumps on the stuff and it packs very nice... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  2. I think it's the one they throw the beer out of the plane to try and get the JFC students out - then the Pilot goes out after the beer!!! Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  3. Gary, Quick note to watch that some of the internet substitute batteries do not perform well - or not at all.. I have discovered that some batteries have the same "fit" for what we need; but not the same mAh rating.. Yep, those little old milliamps make a big difference in the devices. The amount of draw they can handle (like turning on the Viso2 light before you jump) can cause some things not to work right. Or, they just die early... Now, there are so many brands out there - some will probably work great.. I just decided to go back to the manufacture-recommended brands for their equipment... I can get months/year out of my audible and digital... I'm just a wanna-be electronics guy. I do a lot with RC aircraft and batteries also. My dad was the Old Electronics Guy Blue Skies... 4. Nice information about Kill Line Maintenance Brian.. For those of us who don't keep Cypres Silicone in our back pocket; do you have another recommendation..? I have used several different types of silicone for automotive window seals, belt drives on RC helicopters, etc. But, would not want to just start trying stuff on my bridle.. Thanks.. 5. The only Triathlon I see in the header looks like 3rd from the Right I'll have to jump with you in person to confirm that though
  6. Or - That is the Female Squirrel leaving the same tree.. Our Dumbass Hero, who tried to show off by jumping 21-floors up, is all beat to shit and still hung in the tree Further, she is probably going on a date with the OTHER squirrel (like the one from Ice Age) who has his Nuts tucked away for the winter and needs a young female to help with them... 9. Pretty funny John.. Doing CRW at Lodi, we would line up outboard of the engine, then dash one-at-a-time to get up the ladder as fast as we could when we were on a turn load. At least with a CRW rig, the little oil spots were not the worst looking thing on your rig (shit hanging out Everywhere) Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  10. "what "lingua franca" means" - This is the Best Information in the whole damn thread ... Well, that and the Monty Python quote Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  11. Hi Bruce, We had a pretty good set of information about fogging last year in Gear and Rigging: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4689959;page=unread#unread About half-dozen posts down I provide a description of what I do based on another manufactures instructions. However, I treat the G3s the same and everyone has had good luck with it.. Well - besides the fact that some helmets will almost always fog when you get the magic temp, humidity, skydiver, head size and helmet fit.... edited for typo(s).. 12. 9 replies and Not One mention about the aircraft yet... Oh, how soon we forget the DZ.com favorites... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  13. Top, I may be wrong, but I don't really think it is the height difference between 5'8" and 5'10".. I think it is more of the, "have to be at least this tall to ride the ride" line of thinking... It may also just be me, but as I get older I seem to meet more and more Great Older people out there.. They look different than the "fresh new ones" but are often a joy to be around.. Say - like talking to them... And, this is not with regards to dating per say...
  14. Wow Renee.... Nice to see you back.. Well, kinda hiding off in this Wind Tunnel Forum ... I saw the new post and was hopeful they had completed construction and would be running before my next trip Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  15. Glad you had another enjoyable jump.. It is a bummer that you did not get to "work" more on this jump.. I bet you can find a DZ to start AFF on your next jump... It sounds like you are really ready.. But, since you already mentioned possibly doing some AFF in Virginia, give them a call and check on what they want for documentation on previous jumps.. Like I just mentioned to Gary above; if I know the DZ it is often not an issue to go on with the next AFF level. But, it won't hurt to check with Both DZ's about completing training between the locations.. PS, save the next tandem money and go fly in a tunnel if you can Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  16. Gary, We have a few DZ's that we are very familiar with and will proceed on with the next step. That is if we can tell it is a valid entry/signature or can do a quick call to confirm.. If someone is at a month out, or maybe left some DZ not really familiar to us, then we typically to lean to the conservative... But, we usually do try and "keep the student learning" and not just waste money because they didn't start with us.. We'll add some other skills into the dive if we can.. Tom Edited for punctuation Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  17. First, I hope your tandem was fun and you had a great time.. For training, there are several methods out there; AFF, IAD, Static Line, and the Tandem progression. However, most DZ's only offer 1 or 2 training opportunities - Some are Tandem only DZ's.. Therefore, depending on how far you want to travel, take a look at USPA's DZ listing and then go visit. Some DZ's have limitations, but you should always be comfortable.. Plus, since you are a pilot, you may have a little more 'range' in your search. We have a student that flys in an hour for his AFF at our little C-182 DZ.. This is where he started and he enjoys our group.. We have had others that felt it better to drive a bit to DZ's with a larger plane so they can get more jumps.. I would suggest NOT to buy some Large Package deal for training.. Enjoy your first jumps and be sure to check with any other DZ if they will accept your previous training before you make changes later on.. For example, we will accept a signed log book, but usually have you repeat the last student jump with one of our instructors - just so we feel comfortable with you too...
  18. Great Info so far.. But too technical for me.. I have owned two houses with fans and installed a few more with friends.. So, looking at "what works" Pick a fan you can get locally from a distributor or even just Home Depot.. Get a BELT DRIVEN Fan.. Usually they advertise direct drive fans with a lower CFM for small homes (I had one of those).. WAY Too Loud - Especially in a small home.. The belt-driven type generally turn a larger fan and more CFM.. Pick a fan that comes with Multi speeds and timer.. Some come as a package and some can be wired on a 2-speed switch.. This make it GREAT to adjust a lower CFM for night and letting it run and then you can crank up the power in the am for a couple hours.. Make sure you have a good/open space to install the fan. I had one in the small house hall - great flow, but way to loud.. This house has a fan upstairs, I had to move it into the laundry room (adjacent to the central hall), but is still central to the house and we keep that door open any way.. Lastly - VERY IMPORTANT.. Have enough Vents OUT of your attic to let the air pass!!! I'm choking the performance of my fan a bit because I went with the standard attic side vents and under the eve vets.. You need to have X?? Square feet of vents depending on your fan CFM... So, Add some vents if you need them.. I actually get a little draft blowing from some light switches with the fan on.. Not bad, but I should fix this if I ever want to get ambitious.. Hope this helps.. Not a lot of calculations, but has worked well for me and some friends.. Oh Yes. This is a Two person, sometimes three to get it done safe and easy.. I LOVE OUR FAN.. Ran it this morning and every day we have cool temps in the AM... 19. You're Telling Me... There was about 1/4-inch of pin left through the reserve loop.. I was happy to have the sigma Spectra Ripcord... Gave me some wiggle room.. But, since I could not see that in the air, I spent about 30 seconds after I got the handle from him and back on the Velcro trying to "shake" the reserve out... Got my heart rate up a bit ... Ok, back to the regular discussion.. Sorry for the hijack.. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  20. Amyr, I am not a TE. But, have been on the front more than once.. And - not to say that I suck, but had to make three trips to the examiners DZ before I finished.. Trip 1) Injured during course, 2) came back "cold" and made some serious mistakes, and 3) came back with some new practiced skills and positive attitude.. Now, I'm about 2,100 tandems later and LOVE to take students up on their First Skydive!!! So, I'm going to add a couple things with my thoughts of "what" you could do before.. #1 - Want To Work with students. This is not for glory, getting thrown up on is not glamorous. Truly Want To introduce people to our sport #2 - Be willing to make mistakes and Learn. We all make plenty, no reason to quit or feel like you "can't" do it because you did not know before. But you have to be able to learn as you go. #3 - Spend a chunk of your next 29 jumps practicing with your legs. Not just Leg turns; but exit and put your hands on the back of your helmet (until pull time or to check alti - Wear a chest mount). This was one of my mistakes that Your Legs are a HUGE part of controlling the tandem jump. Left and right as you are doing practice touches on all 5 handles (simulated).. You are just like a dancing monkey up there with a passenger hooked on front I'm pretty sure you can't make a jump on a tandem rig by yourself without going through all the tandem ground course (learning all the new EP's) and passing the written before you can jump the rig solo. But, as others mentioned. Ask some tandem master you trust for help. Go as a passenger and - Wear the rig around for a while before you go, practice throwing the drogue off the student horizontal trainer. Then get geared up as a student and go on the skydive and you pull the drogue release. Fly from the front with your friend coaching you through the canopy flight. Flare and land with him - it is a Lot different look than any personal canopy.. Ok, I talk too much. But, I did want to add my thoughts for you to add into your decision.. Blue Skies. Feel free to IM with questions or comments... BTW, having a Tandem Rating and taking my son on his first skydive was F-ing GREAT!!! 21. That brings up an interesting - if not smartass point.. If I had a hand-cam on Jackson, would he have been holding his hand out in front?? BTW, this was a new one for me.. I brief my students to have their arms down and relaxed, or crossed back up until I bring them the steering toggles down.. This boy was just ready to fly... Personal note, I prefer that my student does not have hand-cam. It is just another thing "I have to do" for them on the skydive... 22. You're gonna sell your wife??? Good Man [ROFL]... Welcome to the boards, Glad you two got to experience this together.. Have Fun.. Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  23. Rich, This is AWSOME that you are willing to provide a recommendation.. Some DZO's would just let it go if it was not your DZ...
  24. But I understand you only get that rate if you Leave the DZ BEFORE the Last Jump of the Camp and leave 46 of your friends to make a Big-Ol bunch of Sky Clutter on the last jump of the Day... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  25. I like that "Woops" photo.. Here is a grab that shows - Sometimes things don't go as planned... And, these guys completed AFF training a while ago Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
