  1. I wear the Phantom and the Kiss.. I really like the utility of the Kiss helmet.. It seems to fit just a little bit larger(loose) than the larg size Phantom. Most of the up jumpers on the DZ wear the Phantom. We have one guy in the XV because he is a little bigger and got some fogging issues with the Phantom.. He moves a lot of air and his head/face really filled the helmet
  2. I was thinking about putting this on the "Best AFF Pic" thread, but the pic is a sucky quality off of a screen grab.. But I just found this video and think this may become one of my Favorite AFF pics Like Steve just said - Fun and can get surprised every now and then.. This was a Level 5 Student... I don't know if you would say I'm doing a pull up, or overhead lift with Him [laughing]... And, like I mentioned above - Don't Fear the AFF Course, The real students are the ones to watch...
  3. My Handle Checks are on all my hand-cam vdeo.. Funny, my landing footage looks just like the area BEHIND Us right before we land.. I don't get the student's face back on camera until the flare.. I just let them know I Fly/Land FIRST and take video Second... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  4. I might add - try to take an AFF Pre-Course Before... Like 6 months or a Year before you attempt your own.. That gives you time to learn, than practice what they will expect.. Pre-course from the Evaluator you plan to participate with is BEST... When I went, I dedicated like 50 jumps just to Pre-aff stuff.. I did include some of the other suggestions also (well no tunnel).. I worked with one of the AFF evaluators who was helping with my course, starting in August/September.. The Course was the end of October.. Not cheap to pay two slots, a "tip" for the guy and gas/food for the trip.. But it gave me a pretty good understanding what I was in for.. My Partner had been through the Pre-Course; She was WAAY ready for the "Game".... Good Luck.. Just Remember - The Course is NOTHING... The REAL Students are the ones to be Afraid Of!!! Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  5. Ahhh, becomming a gentleman... I commend you.. So, you just want to pet her kitty... What a NICE guy... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  6. Dude, you offer to take the cat.. You are supposed Volunteer to Provide the Morning Cuddles... Dumbass You're getting OLD Turtle... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  7. WTF - NO YOU DON'T... Well, at least not all of us over 40 Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  8. Ha - You called him Surely Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  9. This is what I tell the guys at my DZ.. Check on the ground before you jump by exhaling on the INSIDE of the lens - If it fogs on the ground, you will very likely get fog in the air.. If SO - Time to WASH, CLEAN, and then use the FogTech wipe. Don't use any spray/clean/fog cheap product, it will strip the manufactured coating off the inside over time.. So, per the Phantom X book. Wash with warm water and soap... It gets that "yuck" layer off the inside of the lens - like what you can see inside your car window Dab dry with soft cloth or towel - Don't rub/scratch the inside of the lens. Use the FogTech wipes.. Now, they are "dry" wipes and they sometimes are a pain and may even streak a little.. Just a couple drops of clean water inside the lens will hekp the FogTech coat the inside.. Then quick check again on the ground - 99 percent of the time this takes care of the fog on the ground and in the air... I hit 3 or 4 lenses for my group when the days get cold and I see fog on mine - it's quick, easy and your friends don't kick you in the head because their lens is fogged... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  10. Turtle just got his Little Rascals corn-fused..... Don't You Buckwheat?? Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  11. Tell me about it... My boyfriend squished it before I could stop him!! Time to get a New Boyfriend - at least New to You Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  12. Mental Note: Don't Flirt with the Manifest Girl while at Oceanside Oh- Edited to add: Mine's a Whuffo, but I found her at Square1, so she knows the sport Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  13. Very glad that you are sooo excited.. Enthusiastic students can be fun to work with.... BUT - what does someone comming in "Early" have to do with your First Jump Course? It sounds like you are working the night before you plan to take the class and possibly skydive.. I would recommend that this is not the way to start... A good night's sleep (or as much as possible before you are about to jump out of a plane ) is a LOT BETTER plan... Glad you got things on the bike worked out... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  14. Oh - forgot to mention.. Wear glasses the day of your exam instead of contacts... (my near-vision sucks with contacts too).. My Doc lets me have the glasses off for all my near, color and depth tests.... Then I put on my glasses for the 20/20 test... Your medical will just say "must wear corrective lenses", but does not say it has to be contacts Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  15. When I re-upped my ratings a couple years ago, I wondered some of the same things. Medical, the vision is only for "near" vision. I understand you only need to see the "controls" if you do not have glasses .. Corrected for distance is fine. For the renewal - go check with your tandem examiner... Mine had me do the written test, take an experienced jumper and then he sent in my renewal card... Was not too bad at all... being diagnosed with arthritis and having to get a Special Issuance for the Class III later was a bigger hastle.. Good Luck Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

    Memorial Day

Our Boy Scout troop goes and helps at the Memorial Day lunch at the local Memorial District Hall.. Yep, the Veterans are Happy to see the scouts and the scouts Celebrate what these Veterans gave for our country.. Now, yes, there is prayer and rememberance for those who died - so don't get too mad at us... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  17. No Crap - Chromie is here again... I thought you got married to Sebazz and had kids Tom Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  18. Full Face now... I love the quick change lens on my PhantomX... Keeps the student snot out of MY nose I wear the shaded lens to "stay out" of their video when they get hand-cam. The clear on darker days, but then they see the fear in my eyes on video Also, talking through the mouth piece is not a problem. It actually limits what I try to tell the student. I make everything I say more clear and deliberate... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  19. Yep, "One Button Mode" is the setting I use.. That starts the video with a single push of the front button. Then a "2 or 3-second hold" on the same button to turn it off... However, if you FORGET to put in the SD card it doesn't help much... At least that was with a Tandem/Hand cam and I caught it before we left... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  20. It could be fun to make it down to Taft. Just don't know if I would remember anyone from when I jumped there in the 90's. Bob and Judy owned/operated; Jeff and Tammy Lund were there; I got to watch some of the NASA test drops. It was always fun. From waking up under the wheel of the Otter for the Sunrise Load to having Billy R "fruitloop" me out of my first 6-way I went back to your old Cal City post and watched through some of the videos. Thanks for all the work on them, but a lot of pics were the "new" croud I didn't get to meet. Oh - almost forgot. The whole plane giving me shit when Dale Stuart had her leggs "wraped around my head" - There was no room for her to stretch on the way up, so next thing I knew there was a leg over my shoulder... That, and going out to the diner in the evenings for a burger with a fried egg on top... Can't eat that now Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  21. Yep, I thought it was a good idea.. [inline GoPro_LED_Sept2012_014.jpg] I made mine [inline GoPro_LED_Sept2012_007.jpg] It does work great for getting rid of the "is my GoPro on"... A lot easier to just look up and see the light. However, with this setup it just tells you the POWER is on, not if you are shooting video.. It is because of how you pick up the power from the plug. I have mine set up film video as soon as you turn on the GoPro - that way I don't forget to start filming Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
  22. And have Schweddy Weiners Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

  25. Hey Ben, How is it in Taft with the new owners?? I was talking to Dave C last year when he was open 5 days a week. Do you now if they are still only F-Sun now?? I have a job site I get to visit on Elk Hills every month or so, but not usually on Friday... I may have to make up a reason that we need a visit on Friday Blue Skies Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!
