  1. That's not part of a law you are quoting rush. It is a statement by the author of the article. Basic concepts seem very difficult for you. Your semantics are a joke. It WAS a gun free zone complete with "gun free zone" signs. It has been reported there was a vet there in close proximity to the shooter. He had a firearm that was in the car bc he was forbidden to have it on him within the "zone". I'll put my money on a verteran of the US military all day who is armed against this mentally ill individual. Your argument is not only basless but also just wrong. Another veteran rushed the guy and was shot doing so. You want to tell me that if that class had 2-3 armed citizens that less people would not have died? Please, try and make that argument. It is laughable. This guy took the time to ask if individuals were Christain one by one. A guy in that situation could not protect all sides of himself. He would have been taken out and that would have resulted in fewer deaths. This is horrible but has nothing to do with the guns. It is mental illness that is the real problem. I'm sure others like you really had their hopes on a "assault rifle" being used. After all, nobody could kill this many people without one of those. Ban them anyway right? 2. Wendy, I always apprecite your thoughts and insight. I think Fio & Rubio are there at the end. Jeb will be unless he does not get any benefit from others dropping out. I can actually see a Rubio/Fio ticket with either being the POTUS nominee or VP. I do not think Jeb will get there and I do not want him to either. His money will keep him around for a while though. I think Trump falls off as other candidates drop and coalesce around someone else. I do not think he will get stronger but hold his rabid supporters until he has no path to victory. I give credit to Bernie. He seems very honest. He has the moxy to admit he is a socialist. I think he only captures the extreme wing of the Dems and some college kids so I do not think he has a chance really. Hillary is a trainwreck. Biden is the only guy I see as a real chance for the Dems and thats if he runs but I think he will. 3. If he was fired then the non compete is done anyway. Not that they hold water in court ever. You CANNOT tell a person that they can't work at the profession they have skills in. If someone goes after clients of the previous company then there is a case but non competes in general never hold up in court. I am shocked to hear this one did. Then again we are talking about New York. I do not know what happened but I know that non competes hold no water in a court of law in my experience and I have had a lot of said experience with them. 5. Can you point to any threads here about vigils popping when trunks are slammed? On the ground they wouldn't be in active mode no matter how hard you slammed the trunk. From the vigil website: http://www.vigil.aero/vigil-how-it-works I'm all about discussion here but when you make statements please make sure they have some semblance of accuracy. -Michael It's been discussed here. I am sure you can use the search tool but I also know of it happening to a jumper that I know. edited to say... not trying to be a dick just rushing to get out of the office. 6. Citation needed! I know of no reports of a cypres firing do to pressure changes when it wasn't supposed to, like in a pressurized aircraft or in an automobile. And without required maintenance any number of firmware versions may be in use for years. Cypres' did have an issue, on the ground out an airplane, with static electricity. Field solve provided, hardware fix later. BTW and not directed mxk unless it applies, but some of the posters on this thread are sponsored by one or the other aad manufacture. At least I've found Vigil sponsored posters. There may be Cypres sponsored posters. Others are anonymous with little information. I believe posting without revealing these sponsorships is disingenuous. Any poster offering opinions or advice should not be anonymous and should reveal any financial interests in any specific gear. For the record. I am not and have never been sponsored by ANY gear manufacturer. Neither have I ever worked for, am a dealer for or am an owner of any sport gear manufacture. I am a dealer for Aerosport USA, Strong for pilot rigs (I guess sport and tandem if I wanted but I've never been in that business), and Paraphernalia. I have been a member of PIA since 1989 base on being a rigger. The biggest thing is Vigil still has this problem. Be carefulwith the trunks slamming...... Full disclosure: I get free servicing on my CYPRES that is the extent of my "sponsership". I also worked with CYPRES/SSK on a large bid for a project that I cannot discuss due to NDA's. That is why I know more than the average bear about how the CYPRES works as well as the competition. 7. I just made a similar request myself, in a thread where he was adding his opinion that a Sabre II was at least 50% safer in turbulence, than the Safire II, in his opinion, and his experience of course. I jut saw that. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. Muff Brother #4382 Dudeist Skydiver #000 www.fundraiseadventure.com
  8. Perhaps I have been giving it an unfair rap. The Mars AAD has been around in Europe for quite some time now, the M2 is the newest version (like Cypres 2, Vigil 2) It is not a new start up company, many documented saves. From what I have been told it is more similar to the Vigil than the Cypres. No maintenence unless needed, 15 year life on battery. Very well made, aircraft quality aluminum case, stainless cutter, etc. I will likely replace my expired cypres units with the M2. Not at you SS... just a general post. The CYPRES arrives at firing parameters with greater accuracy bc it uses way more data. I cannot speak to the M2 but the Vigil does not come close. I believe it can be trusted to fire when it is supposed to but I do not trust it to not fire when it is not supposed to. That is the most important aspect of an AAD. It is often thought about less and rarely even really looked at but it is the most active piece of gear you own if you use an AAD. It is always working. My opinion but based on a lot of known facts. I also think the SSK and CYPRES have excellent customer service and I also agree with Terry as to why CYPRES. 9. just had my cypres maintained, cost me CHF 220.-, that is roughly EUR 200.-, shipping included. you're being ripped off by jack the rigger. as to the OP: the cypres may cost more, but i'm pretty certain it will ALWAYS fire when it has to and wont when it's outside the parameters, e.g. slamming the trunk closed in your car while still turned on. with EVERY other AAD, i would not be so certain. The problem with the Cypres is that noone outside of cypres knows those "parameters". Cypreses have fired both too early and too late, with absolutely no explanation from Airtec aside from "it fired when it was supposed to". People have died. Vigil, on the other hand, in detail explains how their device works, what factors affect when it will fire and allows you to download the data yourself. Complete transparency. Go with Vigil in my opinion. Transparency matters. More than you would think. This statement and opinion is garbage. Please cite sources and while you are at it... your experience with them as well as jump numbers etc. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 10. I have flown both and I like the Safire 2 much more. Just my opinion but I think it opens better, flies better, and has more bottom end (flare). My advice... jump both and decide for yourself. 11. The original swift SB was about the ribs not being the right shape so it would affect the airfoil effectiveness. There was an SB on the swift plus concerning the cascades - bartacks being possibly too wide to grab the trapped line or something like that. .................................................. Yes, I have re packed a few 5-cell Swifts that had "Service Bulletin number xxxxxx" stamped on their tails. I have inspected and re packed hundreds of Swift Plus reserves and never found a loose bar-tack. Both generations of Swifts were among the best reserves made in their day .... but that day ended a couple of decades ago. Times have changed. For example, back then nobody loaded main canopies at 1 pound per square foot, so nobody expected Swift reserves to land softly when loaded heavier than 1/1. IOW Any one who loads a Swift reserve, or a Raven reserve, or an early Lightning, most 1980s-vintage canopies made of F-111 fabric (aka: zero to 3 cubic feet per minute) is a stupid, fat, white man who is doomed to meet lots of para-medics and nurses and surgeons and x-ray technicians and physio-therapists, etc. Oooops! Did I sound biased or opinionated or out-spoken or politically-incorrect?????? Returning to the original question ... if you visit the Parachute Industry Association or Australian Parachute Federation or Canadian Sports Parachuting Association's websites, you will find lists of Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, special inspections, etc. If any offers to sell you gear mentioned in any of those SB, ADs, etc. - and a rigger has not noted the SB on the packing data card - walk away. 12. he is referrring to you saying you do not plan on it then following it up with the most you would ever do is a 90 or 180. Tip: 180's are not a great thing to do bc of the visual picture you get. YOu do not have eyes in the back of your head. 13. Now you go it. Lean forward. You want to stay under your main. A common mistake is leaning back or letting the canopy lean you back when you land. At that point you are actually in front of the main. Stay under it by leaning forward. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. Muff Brother #4382 Dudeist Skydiver #000 www.fundraiseadventure.com
  14. ****** 2. You shouldn't lean into the chest strap throughout the landing. If your weight is forward, your wing will be forward so your pitch will be steeper while you're flaring. At some point you want your weight more on the rear set of lines to aid in the flare process since it gets the wing more overhead and decreases your pitch. For me I lean into my chest strap on final and shift my weight back as I begin to flare.*** What? Why would you lean back at the end of the landing? I mean you do not want to stay in a "superman" but leaning back? Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 15. Yes... I jump with a guy that has this happen all of the time on his Curve. I like the rig though. I was torn between the Micron and the Curve for my new rig. I jump a Vector right now and my new Vector arrives tomorrow. I gotta say they are both great rigs imo. 18. Not at you Normiss... just replying. As a fiscal conservative/social liberal (for the most part) I think this is great. If a gay couple wants to get married who cares? I do not. I understand the argument of definitions and words having meaning and this could lead to more expansion of what marriage is which is dangerous imo but I do not think it will happen. I actually see this as a win politically for the "new kind" of conservative. This removes another platform the ultra liberals run on. So many people vote bc of one or a few social issues and ignore fiscal policy. I am happy that this is out of the way. Enjoy marriage my gay friends. 19. I do not think anyone has responded bc this is really something to go over with your instructors. I will say one thing though... do not push off the step forcefully. You have a lot of wind coming at you already. It takes very little effort to come off of the step. Pushing off or juming up etc. causes problems. Skydiving is all about using the wind and feeling it. It is the same coming off of a 182 step. Just step off and arch. Hope this helps but you can go through all of the small details with your instructors. Have fun! 21. I would like to think that the software in current AADs is using more than just altitude and descent rate, but maybe it is not. If so, then carry on! You will succeed in designing some rather robust algorithms. (I have never liked using words like "armed" and "disarmed" to describe what the software is doing, but since the manufacturers of the current AADs are not going to tell us what the software is doing, I guess they need to use simplified terms for skydivers.) Current AAD's use a lot more information other than altitude and descent rate. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 23. You are not in the states so this probably does not apply to you but I will tell you how it works in the U.S., unless you are a protected class you can do nothing except leave. Being an asshole here is not illegal nor is being a bully. There are some states starting to move on work place bullying and harassment legislation but they are not that far along yet. It needs to happen. It happens too often in smaller companies but still does happen in big companies. I have experience in dealing with this and it sucks! Sorry you are dealing with this.
