  2. This part is funny or not.... Did you skydive while making this film? That is the single most-asked question, which is fine. I did, I did skydive. But I have a background in rock climbing, and I grew up in Oregon rock climbing, so I don’t really have a lot of issues about heights. And actually, I thought the scariest part was going up in the airplane, because they’re really mechanically not well maintained, a lot of the drop zones. But I enjoyed it very much. I haven’t been BASE jumping, because it takes a lot of skill, so it’s not something you just kind of go out and do. Not great to have this guy say that about our aircraft and it's good to know you can just go jump out of a plane with no skill. Maybe there should be tandem base jumps for everyone to enjoy..... 4. I am with you Grue but I think it is a flawed argument to say we need to start eliminating the things we disagree on as people. That's not feasible. I am not a fan of anyone who "pushes" religion or the belief in nothing on anyone either. I really try to not do that. I prefer to let my actions speak but I am human and that does not always work out that well. Maybe it's better said as eliminating the reasons we disagree to actual disagreements vs. disagreements because an unprovable deity or deities and/or some ancient text tells them to. Sure people will always find a reason to argue and disagree but the more intelligent and relevant those reasons are...
  5. I do not know about any other AAD but it is common for CYPRES. Data is recorded during maintenance and updates are made based on previous changes. This is another reason I am a fan of the maintenance CYPRES does and not a fan of not utilizing these intervals. 6. The purchase price for this unit would be equal to the Cypres, even with all the additional internal sensors and such. What goes on under the cover will be very different however, with the processor looking at 10 channels of data at a sample rate of about 4 times faster that the Cypress or Vigil, not sure what the Mars sample rate is. The cost of service is TBD. I see that as a double edged sword in that, like with your reserve that has to be repacked by a rigger, and most of us have to pay to have that done, the manufacturers of the rig don't cover that. And, at the same time, seeing the units ever 4 years allows us to catch problems and address then before they become a problem, and that I think is something that benefits us, so why should the customer have to pay for our quality control program? The units will be put through a rigorous validation process every time they are sent in, and that will take some labor and ware and tare on the equipment, which could be argued as the cost of doing business, and with any cost, it would be passed on to the consumer. Lets just call this TBD :) The black box is not for "data logging" as traditionally understood. The jumper will not have access to the SD card as it will be packed in the reserve container. This unit will use the data recorder to provide it self with the senses needed to determine the conditions it is in, which we call "Situational Awareness". With it being situationaly aware, it can make decisions based on the conditions it is sensing. One example of situational awareness is having to land in the plane. Every AAD on the market will fire if the pilot descends to fast (provided exceeded the arming altitude). Because my AAD is/will be, aware that it is still in the plane, or more correctly stated, it knows it has not exited the plane, it will not fire when it detects the high descent rate at the magic altitude. The data that is stored will be useful for post accident analysis, and will provide us with a record of its operation between service intervals. AADs are meant for a specific purpose.. I have data recorders if anyone wants to "collect data". The military wants them to be simple too lol... Your requirements are different than the military, that is why there will not be any WiFi to download the data. There also won't be a self destruct feature... Personally, I am very reluctant to do anything non Government, but I am confident enough in this unit that I have let several people of whom I greatly respect convince me that the liability can be mitigated. A bit confused by this since CYPRES handles a large amount of military contracts. They also deal with those very specific demands. 8. Who? Anyway... it is pretty well known but Wiki link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Catcher_in_the_Rye_in_popular_culture There are no references to any serial killers in that link. There is a reference to one (seriously disturbed) killer of one person who claimed it influenced him. I'm interested in why people believe these urban legends. Okay... it has been linked to serial killers and if you prefer I change what I wrote to "killers" and drop the serial the point still remains unchanged. Charles Manson believed the lyrics to the Beatles' "Helter Skelter" were a prophecy that ignited a killing spree. Does that make the song evil? Again, the point remains the same. Anyway... it is pretty well known but Wiki link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Catcher_in_the_Rye_in_popular_culture Edited to add quote: "While the novel is linked to several murders and murder attempts, it has been claimed that the novel's overall effect on society is "far more positive than negative." 10. Non religious people who rail against religion have also shown historically that they are quite the opposite of peaceful so I do not think your statement is accurate but slanted to your own beliefs, the belief of nothing. Don't you just hate when religious people make statements like that? Pot meet kettle. I'm not advocating ANY action against religious people. Since I don't think there's anything after death, I think the value of human life is pretty serious business. That said, hopefully over time with education they'll just stop making more religious people and it'll die off. Those who try and push religion on others are awful, awful human beings. I won't try and convince religious people to change, but I'm not going to pretend I have any respect for their belief system either. The fact of the matter is that historically, a tremendous amount of people have been killed in the name of religion (for or against), and it's still going on today. An atheist killing someone because the person is religious is every bit as terrible and inexcusable as someone killing another person because their gods are different. Not to mention, in the end we're all atheists to some extent. Christians and Jews and Muslims pay no heed to the idea of Loki and Mercury and Zeus. I just believe in one fewer supernatural psychopath than they do. That said, if everyone gave up on religion, it'd be one fewer thing that people have to fight over. Wouldn't that be nice? I am with you Grue but I think it is a flawed argument to say we need to start eliminating the things we disagree on as people. That's not feasible. 11. I disagree and I do not think it is a religious statement at all. People generally have their own best interest at heart and many (not all) are willing to harm others to get what they want. I call that broken. You have the right to disagree of course. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 12. Non religious people who rail against religion have also shown historically that they are quite the opposite of peaceful so I do not think your statement is accurate but slanted to your own beliefs, the belief of nothing. Don't you just hate when religious people make statements like that? Pot meet kettle. People are flawed or "broken". No matter the faith any of "us" can go off of the deep end. The reason they say they are going off of the deep end does not necessarily correlate or equate to the subject matter of "the reason" being bad. Ever read Catcher in the Rye? If not you should... its a great book about baseball. Anyway, several serial killers have been on record answering the question of "Why did you do it?" with an answer of "read Catcher in the Rye". Not really an evil or a bad book. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 13. Well Wendy is generally very sweet. Even when we disagree there is no mud flinging. She is also pretty logical in what she says and attacks the subject or argument, not the person. She would never use a phrase like "bite me" or something like that. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 14. And the religious won't ever answer properly. I know, it's just fun tying you guys in knots. If you question it, and you do think it's negative, why are you defending it? Why not just agree that whether or not the story is exactly as Bill presented, it's still pretty freakin' evil? Interesting choice of words from an atheist. It seems the concept of evil would be more of an argument for God rather than against Him. I've found it to be rather foolheaded to put God in the Dock. Wouldn't God Himself set the standard of his own actions rather than our modern palatability of justice? He didn't approve of the first batch of humans, so he wiped 'em all out - women and children included. The wage of sin is death, and we choose to sin - He chooses when we die. We have subjected ourselves to death and the evil that causes it through our own persistent rebellion. We have not lived up to our potential as human beings and despise his authority. I'm reminded of Revelation 3:17 "You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked." God not only allows evil - He controls evil and even causes it according to His own good purpose. Isaiah 45:7 "I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things." God does not need my defense Jakee...we were simply discussing what the words say they say. Although it is fun to bang your head against a wall from time to time it accomplishes nothing. They may feel the same way to which I say okay... no point in continuing the conversation. One of the most difficult things to do when reading scripture has nothing to do with the language, the context, etc. It is actually reading it with an eastern perspective. That is really tough to do being from the west. Several of the "arguments" demonstrated that. If a person just assumes rape happened bc they were soldiers then there is nothing you can do to take the west out of that persons mind. It is important to do this when reading the Qu'ran as well. Even if they will not admit it, there is a clear difference between the texts which I pointed out. Bill argues something different. He simply says that the text says what it says. That is not true nor is it true for the Qu'ran but again there is no point in arguing it unless both parties will look at the whole picture. There is a bias on both sides and with this topic.... it tends to lead nowhere. Good thing we are not called to "save" everyone as many think including Christians because many will never subscribe to Christ. I am okay with that for several reasons but the biggest being, I respect a persons choice. "Free will", the second greatest gift God gave us. edited to read better Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 15. I do not get a lot of input from Christian sources regarding Torah, but Rabbis I know tend to agree that the sources of these books vary greatly. One Rabbi, who is a degreed Historian, indicated that the 'first' four books are effectively 'prequels' to the preexisting text, which was Deuteronomy. His contention is that the four books were transcriptions of oral lore, and incorporated a great deal of Mesopotamian content that was absorbed during the Babylonian Exile. There is significant commonality between Cuneiform records of that region and those in the non-Deuteronomy parts of Torah, in Deuteronomy not so much. Asked about the literal veracity of the books, the response was that it is a Bronze Age family history, typical of writing of that era, and that one should not read too much into it. It strikes me that if one had to select a big neon sign for places of worship: The one in the Church would say "Believe!" The one in the Synagogue would say "Think!" The one one the Mosque would say "Believe or Die!" BSBD, Winsor That take really depends on the sect the Rabbi comes from. I have experienced all sides during my time studying Hebrew and Aramaic at the Hebrew Union College. I personally think I fall into "Believe & Think". Interesting point on the categories though. Probably not too far off generally speaking. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 17. I really was just curious. Not making any judgement on if you did or did not. A couple months huh? That's pretty cool you took some time to try and study the language. We disagree on the rest of what you wrote but hey... you can have your opinion. Representing the Genesis account as being different stories in 1 & 2 as fact..... well... ya not fact. Your opinion. I have a lot of respect for some of the things you say Bill. I am going to PM you something so others that really do not want to be involved in this conversation but still comment are excluded. That's what they really want anyway. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 18. No... I study the Qu'ran in the same way which I noted in a later post. My bad on the dog vs. Canaan actually had fixed it but you caught it first. Did you study the language at all? Just curious... Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. Muff Brother #4382 Dudeist Skydiver #000 www.fundraiseadventure.com
  19. Again... not really bc the Qu'ran is not written in English. The words in the Qu'ran clearly support ongoing violence and jihad. 20. Except the words do not say what they say. Context and the actual words matter and the words are not English. The context of this verse is actually referring to practices of Canaan. It is really not about the homosexuality rather the many sexual rituals occurring.... anyway I could go on but you have your opinion based on what you know and I have mine based on what I know. It would be interesting to see if someone with your intelligence actually took the time to REALLY study the Bible taking in to account everything that should be accounted for. Only so much time in a day I suppose..... Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 21. But that still has nothing to do with the original argument I made. Your belief is your belief but we are talking about the differences in the books that many follow worldwide. 22. You probably will not read it and if you do you will find many reasons why it is still not okay. That is your choice but a little research goes a long way. As for instances such as this in the Qu'ran.... I examine it the same way that I do the Bible except it contains open ended statements and commands to murder. A friend of mine wrote this up. I know where to find it quickly because throwing out Numbers 31 is a common occurrence by many..... http://christianthinktank.com/midian.html Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 23. What issue do you take with those versus? Also, they do not really apply to my point with the exception of one which would be the first and it is not an open ended statement of killing. It is speaking about the enemies of God in an actual war with them. That is very different from what the Qu'ran says. 24. There is a major difference between the Bible and the Qur'an. The active teachings and the violence that is promoted. The "bad things" you are speaking about is pretty general. As it applies to what I said what would be an example of something in the Bible? They have bene pointed out before. The reaction is normally along the lines of: We don't follow that part of the bible. That wasn't meant literally. Etc. The bible says stupid things, the Koran says stupid things. Judging all followers of a religion based on the stupid portions of a book and the insane behaviour of some is pretty much the definition of bigotry. I do not know what has or has not been pointed out before. I am asking you for an example. For those that say they do not follow one part but the others is pretty foolish to say.
