  1. Not to you Dekker... general post. Who here has read the Qur'an? Just something to consider... the book itself promotes violence. There is no real argument to that. Also, as it was stated above... Muhammad was not a "good" man in any way historically speaking. If you follow Islam and do not promote the things the Qur'an and Muhammad do.... I take no issue with you. Faith is your choice but do not be so shocked that people do make assumptions about you when the book you follow and the prophet you follow are what they are. If you are a scientologist I am fine with that but I also know that you are following a science fiction "religion" written by a so-so science fiction writer. No bigotry here but some truth. * yes I know there are some good things in the Qur'an as well. I have read it more than once but there is a lot of hate and promotion of horrible acts. 2. You an ad exec for CNN? Can't believe I even opened that. What do you mean? It is a video on skydiving on a major financial website. True it is being used to push retirement services but we post commercials etc. all of the time. Do you have a problem with ads using skydiving? They tend to help exposure to the sport. Oh and no, I do not work for CNN or the financial company that made the ad/interview. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 3. What? A good Free Flyer can use every axis and fly it well. That includes belly! Sorry, seen enough rating candidates over the years that went straight to freeflying off student status and couldn't close a belly two-way. I believe it... I am not a fan of FF after student status and I really do not think it should be allowed. I like 150-200 jumps before you FF as a good mark for jumps needed. Off of student status NOBODY has the air awareness to even try a lot on their belly let alone in FF or "tumbling" which is what they start off doing. Still, I stand by what I said.... a "good" free flyer. Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. 4. And that's really the root of the problem with financial "benefits" to individuals that come from the government. Once the dust settles, the individual is not benefited and you just end up with superfluous gears in the machine that would hurt people to remove, so no one ever does. As you noted, being able to deduct mortgage interest doesn't actually make it easier to afford home ownership, it means everyone can now afford to spend more to buy a house. It just turns "house dollars" into a different, inflated currency that only houses and mortgages are traded in. I am good with this as long as it is AFTER I pay my home off! 9. The "prosperity gospel" is just wrong. As a Christ follower it really fires me up because it hurts so many other churches doing amazing things in the world. 10. Personally... I only trust CYPRES but that's me. Many opinions out there and several will tell you why one is better than the other. I will not get in to all of that. Do your research and make the decision for yourself. There is something to be said about the originator and longest AAD on the market in my opinion and I also love that my CYPRES 2 unit gets checked periodically. Some do not like the service side of the CYPRES and they go Vigil or M2. If it is my last shot I like to believe it is going to work. 11. Leg strength not important? I guess it depends on the discipline but if you are free flying legs are very important. Also, it is not a good idea to "muscle" through the air like another poster stated but that does not mean you are not using muscle to fly. I am a fan of good fitness in general but really a fan for my skydiving. Cardio and core are big but I think general fitness is also a big plus. I use yoga and pilates in addition to cardio and weights. Is it a must... no, BUT I believe it will make you a better skydiver and when something does happen and an injury occurs... you will recover faster. 13. Unfortunately.... all it takes is one drop of poison to kill you in a glass of pure good for you water. I hope it works out for the good but I worry that is not how it goes down. I do not see how any good can come from this. Even worse it gives some sort of legitimacy to Cary. 15. Here is the major problem, while a small minority of Muslims are radical extremist, a large majority, who are not extremist, would rather fight and die, than see any western country occupy their own country. Anyone who goes up against ISIS,will just be seen as proxis for the Shia, the western world is about 10 years behind the reality of why these people are doing what their doing. Every option we have with ISIS is terrible, we have to pick the least terrible of these options. I cannot believe I am typing this but I agree with J. Weird. War has been happening in that region for centuries and nothing will stop it. I have read the Quran and it is filled with a lot of mixed messages and a lot of hate. I still believe there are peaceful followers of Islam and that is their right in this country but it is a different world in the middle east and we would be better off to recognize the mistakes of the past as it relates to that region and the people who live there. I think actions warrant some involvement over there but not near as much as we have been involved in. 16. FWIW, for the rest of us, the public report on the Mark T. Urban test jump accident of 2013 can be found at: http://www.wildfirelessons.net/communities/resources/viewincident/?DocumentKey=a7aa252b-85dc-4c03-9cce-b73a43301fa2 "Smokejumpers were performing extended drogue ride parachute jumps for research and development (R&D) purposes " The main report is 111 pages. As for confused AAD's, someone could dig up the threads but it involved a C-130 doing pressurization stuff while on descent, to an apparent altitude below ground level. It was World Team 2006. Both Vigil and Cypres made public statements afterwards, see below. C1's detected pressures outside the normal range and so concluded there was an error so the best action was to shut off. C2's were more advanced and decided it wasn't a permanent error so stayed on and did nothing. Vigils got jumpy and fired. Cypres: http://www.cypres-2.com/cypres_news_letter_feb_2006_c.pdf Vigil: http://www.vigil.aero/wp-content/uploads/VigilStatementAUG06_000.pdf and https://web.archive.org/web/20060714212226/http://www.vigil.aero/pdf/WorldTeamResponse_004.pdf (They seem to have cleansed the original document from their site, hence using archive.org.) Do electronic AAD's have any accelerometer at all? If so, it isn't something talked about by the companies. Supporting data? Interesting research you've been doing. All the more reason to have an AAD checked periodically. Electronics deteriorate over time. If it is my last chance I want to be damn sure that the AAD is working properly. We will never know that with 100% certainty but periodic checks make me feel a lot better about it. Also, the most important thing an AAD actually does.... is decide not to fire. That is my opinion. 17. come on down to the Fitzgerald boogie in March. and we will make it happen. I have had a number of free flyers dock on me head down over the years. I remember one jump at Bardstown Kentucky with Paul Robarts. he spent the whole dive head down transitioning between right and left hand Docks. and Pete certain and I used to do it down in Alabama all the time I have quite a bit of footage. I miss both of those guys terribly R. I. P. Bros Love me some Bardstown jumpers! Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it. I do not know if the story is true or not but both sides have weighed in and this is the liberal side of the story. Yes, sadly politics play a role in how this story is reported. 20. No shit Keith is not lying. He was on his belly and I was in a sit at the last Richmond THE Boogie. Freakin awesome! I did not want to get involved in this conversation I just wanted to testify that Keith is not lying and if you get a chance... do a jump with him. Next time we meet I want to see if I can dock with you on my head Keith. Side note... I'm a FF'er not a pothead and I have a real job. 21. It will eventually dry up, several centuries from now under present day production levels. I'm not sure where you're getting your numbers from, but everything I've read from oil economists to BP giant say that we have 53.3 years left at current levels. So.... most think that is an outright lie. Much of the data compiled for this relies on OPEC reports as well. If there is not much left that equates to a higher value for the product. Nobody that trades in oil actually believes these estimates. Maybe it is true just giving more insight. 22. It is a good thing overall. It is temporary but good. It has been a long time since oil has been dictated by supply & demand. We are the closest to getting back to that model that we have been in 20-30 years. This is not "hurting" wall street. Since that is the world I work in I will just tell you that the impact on the market is a result of the volatility in oil. Once is stabilizes everything will be fine. This also pushed the market to pull back which is a very good thing. I will tell you that the "fix" for cheap oil is cheap oil. Consumption will increase which will result in pricing bumps. I do think that "low" prices will be around for a few years at least. This is still temporary though. Despite other opinions... I think fracking is a great thing. OPEC wants you to think otherwise which is why they pump so much money in to environmental campaigns and groups telling us it is bad. 24. Billy.... sup. Just a matter of fact. As I stated in a previous post before the game.... Oregon and the Pac 10 cannot play against physical defenses. Stop the run and they are done. This game was an ass whoopin! The O/D line just killed Oregon. I felt good going in to the game but now I know how good the Buckeyes really are. I do not believe in the SEC myth but I do believe 1-3 teams in the conference are that strong just like I believe there are two very strong teams in the B1G. I look forward to many years of unbelievable teams especially the Buckeyes! As for the Pac10.... no team in the conference is really "there". Big12..... you got something big to prove. You better have a championship come 2015. ACC... you are a joke. In closing... Fuck Michigan, Fuck you Mark May, Lou Holtz... you are cool! Peace and I'm out. OH - IO! 25. I'm quite sure that 1,000 years from now "they" will not have returned to the idea that stars are painted on the inside of a globe, or that the Earth is flat and the center of the universe, or that fully formed little babies are scrunched up inside of sperm, or any of the other notions of "how things work" that prevailed in "biblical times". Biblical thought completely dominated European society for over 1,500 years and produced no useful insights into medicine, physics, chemistry, biology, geology, or any other field of study of "how things work". All of our advances that have resulted in modern medicine and technology came about as a result of the Enlightenment and adoption of the scientific method, and that was resisted tooth and nail by the advocates of the Bible as the font and sole repository of all knowledge. And yet, according to the Bible, we are the crowning pinnacle of God's creation. Don't you think He could have perhaps done a bit better, being all-knowing and all-powerful? Stop repeating what history? Scripture has inspired an incredible amount of hatred and war over the millennia. Of course if we were to become a society that rejects any thought that is inconsistent with what is written in the Bible, and all think and look the same down to proscriptions on diet and clothing and hair styles, we might attain a sort of "peace". Somewhat like what the Taliban or ISIS wish to impose on their societies, but centered on Jesus instead of Mohammed. Don Ya... men/women of faith and Christianity had nothing to do with scientific advances at all. These people obviously fought the scientific method tooth and nail..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Christian_thinkers_in_science Life is all about ass....either you're kicking it, kissing it, working it off, or trying to get a piece of it.
