I did likewise in the film, and even more while reading the book. One thing I am still researching is the collateral issue with CDSs. These are apparently analogous to margin calls on stock options. There is a situation in the book involving them that is hilarious, and really should have been in the film. It has been awhile since I saw "Inside Job", but it seems like there is material in it that IJ didn't cover, such as how the institutions were fraudulently keeping the price of the mortgage-backed bonds up (while the mortgages were collapsing) in order to keep from paying out on the CDOs. I also don't recall IJ explaining "synthetic CDOs". I must hand it to the film editors: It is really fast-paced! You never have a chance to get bored. The movie is excellent. For a very long time I was a part of that world and this film nails what was going on. I kick myself every day that I did not dig deeper during that time and realize the plays I could have made. Things are different now but they are also the same. CDO's (different name now) are being used again and subprime is coming back. We never learn. The key part of the film was revealing the ratings agencies and how much they are in bed with the big institutions. Even the right short took a lot of capital to weather serious losses bc of the corrupt system. Back then you had housing crashing but the inverse indexes did not move bc of the ratings agencies. The issue with a third party is that the deadlines for most of the state requirements are just after the conventions. Anyone that wants to run as a third party will basically have to join a party that has already managed to get on the ballots in most of the states like the Green, Libertarian or they need to be working on building the grass roots now to get the signatures for every state. At this point none of those parties are willing to accept a known, failed Republican in as their candidate since it goes against their parties ideals. There is no way the Libertarians will let any of the moderate GOP'ers in since none of them were pitching a platform close to what they are looking for. There is a tiny chance that Sanders could run on a Socialist/Communist ticket but that is not going to happen. What I am curious of is the downstream effect of this nomination cycle. Are you going to have more people coming out and challenging the incumbents if they do not openly back Trump if he gets the nomination during this election cycle? We last saw this during the Tea Partys rise a few years ago, during the primaries the more moderate candidates were losing since the more vocal members of the party, which are the ones more likely to vote in a primary, pushed the "outsider" in. This was mainly done in states with closed primaries where crossing party lines is not permitted. At the election due to Gerrymandering a lot of the competition was already over since the districts were "safe". Many of these people including Cruz have been finding it hard to get anything done in DC since its a game of horse trading and they see compromise as the worst thing possible. For the left they have been having their own issues where Sanders has been forcing Hillary to move her policies more to the left and away from the centrist view she was trying to walk. this is going to cost her some of the crossover vote with moderates on the right side. This is also going potentially cause a lot of those voters to just not vote this year since they are looking a giant douche and a turd sandwich as their choices. I did see comments today online calling Rubio, Kasich, Boener, Paul Ryan, and even FOX News RINO's because they were willing to talk to democrats and were unable to accomplish 100% of the agenda that is being pushed. Fox was being called out for attacking a popular candidate and not spending all of their time trying to bury Hillary. Politics are getting even more depressing than normal right now. Cruz cannot mathmatically beat Trump either. What was lost yesterday is that Cruz got destroyed. The only hope is the convention if Trump does not get to 1237 and if he is pretty close then I guarantee Kasich will jump on board. That's a lot of people with significant hatred, racism and bigotry. A lot of people who have no problem singling out people purely based on religion. It's a lot of people with a very scary way of thinking; one that has led to significant atrocities in history. I agree and not diminishing that at all. Everyone needs to calm down a bit. The generalizations are over the top. Trump has consistently captured 34% of the GOP primary vote. A lot of his votes also come from low education dems in open primaries. 34% of primary votes equates to around 3%-5% of general election voters. Trump will get crushed in a general and the polls already show it. He has hardly been attacked and the MSM has pushed him 24/7. If he gets the nod... that all changes. Also, there are conservatives like me, I have voted in every election since I turned 18 and I will NEVER vote for Trump. I may even vote for Hillary's criminal ass bc I will take status quo over Trump's crazy. My decision is not that uncommon at all hence the #NeverTrump movement that is a conservative movement. There was a reason the dems feared Rubio... he is a conservative that the middle listens to and would have walked away with the election. Leave it to the GOP to F it up though. I do not think Kasich will win Michigan and Ohio but maybe Ohio. The sad thing is that he stays in even with an Ohio only win which is a joke. I am voting for himin Ohio to stop Trump but am second guessing myself as of late. Cruz has no path after this weekend. His states are done and he is a very hard sell in a general. I cannot and will not vote for any ticket with Trump on it and will be very disappointed in a ticket with Cruz at the top.
