certainly not the rich - who have taken their lovely tax cuts (several trillion worth), are the richest they have ever been in human history, and are laughing all the way to the bank... I agree in part. Yes the rich have gotten some lovely tax cuts, but the burden should be shouldered by all of us. They pay quite a bit of the taxes in this country, but if they take a tax hike, those of us on the lower end should have to give more as well. Its all of our country, and all of our problem, not just for the rich to fix. they've got most of the money - so it's mostly their problem... Negatory, GQ. Its all our problem. We are not in this mess because the rich failed to pay enough in taxes, we're here because the government, translated to us - the people, spent more than we made. Here a few ideas I have for reducing how much we spend: 1) Legalize pot - state and local funds that fight pot could be directed towards programs that would normally receive federal funding. Stop the federal funding toward those programs since funding now comes from state/local funds. 2) Military - reduce the number of troops in the total force. Do NOT sacrifice R&D. Gov't employees and military do not need the high per diem rates they get now for travel, etc... 3) Higher taxes - a one or two percent increase will go far. 4) Higher fines - increase fines for eveything from speeding tickets to court fees. This money can go towards state/local programs that would normally receive federal funding. Stop the federal funding toward those programs since funding now comes from state/local funds. 5) Government Employees - Pay for their own public transportation/metro passes like everyone else. Reduce manpower across the board. Instead of buying flatscreens TVs with end-of-year fiscal funds, send it back. It may not seem like much, but it is. Especially the #1.

I was just commenting to the goofy comment you made regarding the populartiy of the Cable programs when you went off on Palin and others You're still whining... just kidding. Lightin' up I used to watch Bill back in '04, but quickly lost interest. He doesn't back anything he says, doesn't give others a chance to speak; his debates are all one sided cause he cuts them off every other word. Is he part of the "no spin zone"? I'm currently staying with my mom pending closing on my house and she watches Nancy Grace ALL the time. That's cool, but she knows I can't stand her so she'll blasts the TV and ask me "are you catchin' this"? The only one I really don't mind is the Silver Fox.

Ron Paul DID make it to the primaries in 2008. I know because I voted for him. He didn't win the nomination. I know he made it, but was it as a Republican? My apologies then, I thought he ran independant in '08. I was out of pocket for the last election and did not vote.

Someone posted something along the lines that Americans in France, Bahamas and other places still have to pay taxes on the first whatever grand, which is not always the case. Just pointing out a myth. Then we've been replying to each other since that....so why do you keep at it? No need to answer that... On a more serious note, I just found out that I'll be getting a large tax exemption on all the stuff I donated to the Salvation Army (shoes, jeans, furniture). Every bit helps

I was referring to non-war zones. Civilians in non-war zones are exempt for the first 90-something grand; however, military must still pay taxes on that 90-something grand. Say there's 2 people, same income of 90k. One of them is military and the other is a civilian (lets say a contractor) and are both working in London on the same project or contract. The military dude pays taxes, the civilian guy does not. Military and Gov't pay are not considered foreign earned income. You're missing the point. U.S. contractors on U.S. projects/contracts working for U.S. companies can exempt that 90-or-so grand. Their income earned is no more foreign that that of the military. I'm familiar with the status of military/gov't income not being "foreign". What constitutes foreign earned income?
