  1. but... but... but... You can't quit now. I just got a great deal on a years supply of popcorn
  2. That means it's time to get your Rigger's Ticket
  3. You'll love Ogden the tunnel and the DZ are great, but your landings will suck I did my 100 jumps in Ogden and under a Nav 240 I only stood up once, (of course that was only 5 jumps) Under a Spectra 230 it required a full hard flare to get a good stop. My first landing at sea level was pretty funny (for everyone else) Great facility, Grand Caravan, awesome people, 10 minutes from Hill AFB and the tunnel. (I used to jump during my lunch break on Wednesdays when they opened for tandems)
  4. METAR is actually not hard to read at all Weather Underground posts the METAR right under the current conditions along with a quick FAQ for understanding it. I find this the easiest way to find the cloud levels. http://www.wunderground.com/metarFAQ.asp

    I'm....

I bought my house BECAUSE of the airfield next door!! Woohoo!! Again....it was an F-4!! For an aviation buff.....it's the holy grail of fighters. Only a handful still flying in the U.S. HA! The only that plane ever did well was go fast. Watch out for those phantom bites.
  6. Yeah but its coming... Huntsville has a decent chunk of storm over it and there is a huge cell moving in from over Dallas. Lets hope it moves north a bit. We're forecast for a good weekend, but with this many storms in the area, you never know.
  7. It wasn't until I did 3 jumps in the same day (4, 5 and 6) that the butterflies went away. Freefall wasn't the issue, I would get anxious on the ride up and the exit. On level 6 just before the exit my inner voice started screaming "don't go near the door, you might fall" then I laughed and it's been all good since.
  8. I can't say anything about the job market other than they do have a lot of tech companies in the area, but I do have to say that Portland is the greatest city on earth. Very outdoors oriented and open minded culture. Regularly voted cleanest city and best airport. Amazing selection of craft beers (more micro breweries than any other city in the world) Skydive Oregon is a great place that is 30 minutes away. And Oregon summers are the best, no need to ever use the a/c. Winters are cloudy but not too cold (jeans and a hoody are all that is needed) and the spring/fall is rainy (hey nothing is perfect, but if it wasn't for skydiving it wouldn't matter because its usually just a light drizzle) No sales tax (it is a convenience that you don't notice until you leave. 99 cents means 99 cents
  9. I have a Nitron 150 that is a couple years old. I bought it second hand but it had black HMA on it.
  10. I've known a few to be upset if someone describes them as being in college. They are in "Graduate School"
  11. Minimum appropriate gear is a given and no one will argue it. The question is not what gear is needed, but what skill is needed. While the potential for high horizontal speeds is a concern for the beginning FF, especially not paying attention to ground speed and direction. I believe you meant vertical speeds, which leads back to the question of how much skill/practice at slower speeds should you have before moving into faster, more disorienting positions.
  12. What's your question? I'm a backcountry camper but not a snob. I have fun car camping which is what most people mean by camping. In that respect, a bunch of gear is fun because you're bringing the fun barbecue and tailgate stuff to a campsite. With back-country it's the opposite, the less gear the better. So, if you're doing something in between then there's a mix. I was going to ask how they fit all that in there backpack?
  13. Did you pull your reserve?
  14. The only thing I saw in that picture is that you have a Mac...
  15. Just because we have more to learn doesn't mean we aren't qualified to share what we have. I have dedicated myself to becoming an instructor since I started. Studying the literature, dedicating jumps for specific training, hours of tunnel time. So yes I have a lot to learn, and yes I have my own students that I have coached since they got off the leash at my own cost.
  16. That's a larger clique than most people think
  17. But then she would have no case... and it would have been funnier
  18. Are you complaining that his fuck up saved you $50?
  19. I recommend my students to go off of time, no less than 30 minutes of belly time after you receive your 'A' with a coach and 2 dytters, twice that without a coach. That's just a basic standard. I'll extend it for people that jump as often or have a harder time picking things up.
  20. Maybe she's just in the middle of the deployment, that would explain the closed riser covers too, but why is she holding the toggles then? Yikes! Landing on high heels. I'd rather go barefoot! Well, helmets are not law. I go barefoot often. You *could* grab your toggles before full deployment though I don't recommend it and usually not before it setting you up in the saddle. As for the belly to earth under canopy... swoopers do it all the time. I'd say the only big blunder they did was not connecting the risers to the harness correctly (the connection between the risers is sometimes done on CRW canopies) and the "round" connecting links someone pointed out look more like the old square metal ones. The number of lines is hard to tell, if there are 5 it works out for a cascaded line 9-cell. However it is 6 then it works for a 11-cell with cascaded line or a 5-cell without cascading lines... it also works for a round which would also explain the missing slider. Did I miss anything? Damn riggers study course.
  21. I love beer... That's like saying "I breath" It just doesn't need to be said.

    Half hour

perfect use of a Kevin Smith quote
  23. Does she sell her own "jump" tickets
  24. Either the risers are attached wrong or the riser covers never released...
