  1. Got to be honest, I'm starting to like this guy
  2. I've dealt with them before and they were very helpful. The product was also exactly what I wanted, actually a bit better than expected. The only problem is that it's a bit small for me, my fault - it was made to the exact specifications I asked for. But anyway, yes they are very reliable from my experience.
  3. Skyhigh I know what you're saying, I'm in a similar position myself where money is keeping me from jumping. If I lived near my DZ (I'm about 2.5/3hrs away), and I was offered a job, I would probably take it just to be around skydiving and make some new contacts/friends, obviously it wouldn't be worth it as it would cost me more in fuel there and back, but it would be something to do until a better paying job came along. A couple of weeks ago I moved house, just found out my wife is pregnant and also right now I have no job, plus I need a reserve repack and recurrency jump, so it looks like I won't be jumping for a while, one day I will though. So, for now, it looks like I'll practise my packing techniques (as I'm crap) and go and see what Skydive Taft is like, as I think I might be nearer there than Perris now I've moved house. Oh speaking of which if anyone has jumped at Taft it would be interesting to know if they'd recommend it.
  4. Hey congratulations, I know how you must feel, my wife is pregnant at the moment. All the best
  5. Hi Nate, I'm roughly your size at 6ft and 214lbs and I bought a used mirage container and a sabre 11 230 main, actually off this website. I'm extremely happy with what I got and hopefully should settle around a 190 main in the long run?? There are many jumpsuits to choose from, again I bought off here but you can buy new if you like and made to measure. The jumpsuit/altimeter etc will probably stay with you longer than your first rig so that could be worth getting what you want? All depends on money - or lack of it. Anyway I got an altimaster 3, the one that goes on your hand with the glow face, I would recommend those to start with. My helmet is an nvertigo x but to be honest I don't find it as comfortable as the cheaper student ones I used to borrow, I just thought it looked the best, I know that's not a good reason to buy. Oh and I also ended buying a pair of cheap gloves from Square 1 because when I landed I usually ended up on the floor so it's something to protect my hands. One more thing, I got those skateboarders shoes because I saw everybody else at the DZ with them and I wanted to be part of the gang - but I found out that they actually make a huge difference - LOTS more comfortable to land in, I thought so anyway. Oh one more thing, you can borrow, well rent, equipment from your DZ to try out and see what you like best, that might help.
  6. Definitely the first one without question. Also (chubba beat me to it) why not white? I guess it's because people think it will go dirty quicker, but it looks way cooler. I tend to think that even if it's a bit dirty it has that cool "used/professional" look. I think that's good but many might say dirty just looks dirty. Anyway get the first. Oh post a piccy when it comes ; )
  7. Adventure Sports Loft Perris Valley Skydiving Center 2091 Goetz Rd Perris CA, 92527 Tel: 951 657 2676 Give them a call, hope that helps.
  8. Just out of interest if two parachutes were the same size, say 190, but one was elliptical and one was normal, what would be the biggest difference when flying? I know that (more think) elliptical have a much stronger flare. Wouldn't that be better than on that didn't flare as well? Granted better flare probably means faster but which would be better? So I'm thinking two parachutes the same size can be different in speed and "sportiness"? So really You wouldn't need to downsize to get a better performance canopy. Or would a 170 "normal" parachute be sportier than a 190 elliptical? Making the 190 elliptical safer - even though it's sportier?
  9. I don't know what the difference is but how can you not go for the cheaper price?
  10. I got a sabre 2 and it does that. What color is it? Attach piccys [;)
  11. This is embarrassing and I wouldn't normally admit it - I've been drinking strawberry beer, and lots of it too Well it is friday
  12. Just to add to that, if you save up and pay all in one go a lot of places will do a discount on a booking like that, so your money will go further.
  13. I'd get a new canopy and maybe even a complete new rig? And have expensive dinner, gateaux and fine wines. Then buy expensive jewellery and flash cologne. I'm joking of course, it goes without saying it would be returned, or handed into police
  14. Somebody at the DZ told me that it's actually hard to pack a malfunction and that made me feel better. When people say that there will definitely be a malfunction at some point, well the thought of it makes me nervous. I generally try not to get nervous about what might happen and make sure I check my emergency procedures and my equipment time and time again. I think I will always have the thought in the back of my head about "what if", and be slightly nervous no matter what. I've turned up before now and ended up not jumping, sat around and had a pepsi and watched people.
  15. I agree. Your "Late a couple of times, and, only by five minutes", probably, in reality, meant you were late more than that and by more than five minutes. Jeez if you only work part time AND for two hours on those days there really should be no reason for not being able to turn up on time. It pisses me off when I arrange to meet someone and they're late. I look at it this way - If you'd have gone for the bus you would have missed it. It seems more than fair that the dean even gave you a warning. I would just accept it and crack on, at the end of the day it's only a bollocking for something you brought on yourself. It's really not the end of the world.
  16. Seriously, packing to a newbie can be an utter and complete bastard - I speak from experience. Have a go at stuffing in a new ZP canopy and you'll know what I mean. BUT that by no means it can't be learned within a week or so, it's just frustrating and sweaty (practice makes ... etc etc). You need to be quick to make money (and please the proletariat).
  17. I'm 35 and it's a huge cost for me. I also saved up and spent the lot on AFF, license and just got a second hand rig off here. The good part now though is that all I need to pay for is jump tickets
