1. The (believe) the first issue isn't until July 1 - and then it's every month for 11 months, with a special edition in December - something like that if I remember correctly, but either way I'm pretty sure the first edition is on the 1st of next month.
2. Actually only last saturday I had a very similar thing happen to me, somebody saw my skydiving stickers and told me "I have over 400 jumps". When I asked where they jump they told me they "forgot"...
3. I would say it is both - sport, if you jump competitively, and hobby if you jump to have fun - thinking about it probably more sport, although most people who, for example swim, don't do it at a sporting level, kinda the same principal. From what I can tell skydiving seems a very social activity for a lot of people, and I assume it is this that keeps a lot of people involved in it.
4. Somebody just told me Jeff Goldblum died today too?? Don't know how accurate that is... http://jeff.goldblum.mediafetcher.com/news/top_stories/actor_new_zealand.php
5. HAHA LOL, thank you very much everybody, how on earth did you know that?
6. Perris and Elsinore are both good although I jump at Perris because the facilities are better. My experience of the instructors there, and I think I've had all of them at one point or another, is that they are second to none. They seemed very welcoming and always remembered me after AFF etc. Some of them have helped me out tremendously with packing or giving me advice about one thing or another. I have (and will do again) jump at Elsinore because some of the people there are really cool. Edit - Damn, got some serious hate mail from the Elsinorians that one!!
7. I just had a baby, about 3 months ago, and I've been told I'm being selfish for continuing (or more wanting to) skydiving, (not by my wife I might add). So much so that it's sown that seed of doubt into my head and every time I jump now it certainly gives me more to worry about. The injury or dying aspect didn't bother as much as what it does now, of course it was always there, but... The only other problem with skydiving is that every other hobby seems boring in comparison.
8. Are canopies "supposed" to pop up when flaring hard? No matter how hard I flare my canopy it never does this. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Edit to add, 230 @ around 1:1 WL.
9. I have a clear and a shaded/yellow tint pair too. I think they are very good and I don't have anything I can complain about them.
10. I think it's July, 2009. The reason I say this is because when I looked at the sample issue it said; Issue 1, July 2009.
11. really cool, looking forward to getting the first copy.
12. I'm watching it on the news now, it's really windy here too
13. Glad you said that, I was thinking of maybe going up there.
14. I spoke to them this week and they said they are open for tandems and also AFF - all levels. I asked them about experienced jumpers and they said no - well they said I could hang around and if there was an empty place I could go up. Reading between the lines I'm guessing they're only doing tandems and AFF because they make more money that way - 200 a tandem as opposed to 25 - they only have a small Cessna. I'm sure if they had a bigger plane with more spaces it might be a different matter. Maybe in the future they'll expand?? Kind of a shame as I had two AFF students lined up, now I'll take them to Perris so we can spend the day together. I really hope they make it open for everyone sooner rather than later, looks like a great place to jump.
15. Does anybody know of a rigger in the LA or SFV area?
16. Top one. It's a shame more people are not like that.
17. Hey thanks everybody, I really appreciate it. All those people who are already parents will know that amazing feeling I have right now... tiredness - only joking Bastard my photo won't upload, I'll have to do it in a few...
18. In those circumstances I would sign it off. If you've done it, you've done it - A point to note - this is a very touchy area as only you know what has been achieved and what hasn't - and your level of experience. I don't want to condone something that I shouldn't - which is the exact reason I talk about integrity.
19. crikey I was just about to post my reply but after re-reading your post I'm not exactly sure what it is you're saying (granted I'm getting drunk).p Anyway, if I think I'm right, you did some jumps and didn't get them signed off properly for what you did? In that case I would just fill out what I did in the spaces provided and sign them, if they're not already signed - Provided I had actually done what I was saying, otherwise it's cheating yourself -and shows a lack of integrity (just my standards).
20. I didn't read all the posts but most/a lot of contractors are self employed and/or earn a LOT more than $500. I think they only earn that much when laboring (not meant rudely) or working as an apprentice. And yes, it can be shitty, hard work, especially the wet trades.
21. That's what I got told today when I called them - I was a bit unsure as to the validity of the DZ as I got put through to a switchboard type operation?? However, I'm more than ready to spend my hard earned cash just as soon as (if) things are sorted out. Just out of curiosity, what is the difference, in insurance, between tandem skydives and experienced skydives?
