  1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law This is a phenomenon as old as the internet itself. Anyway, I fail to find the video funny. If they are gonna make tasteless, unsafe practical jokes, at least make them funny. But hey, I'm from Europe. Different culture. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  2. That's me, freshly jumped and about to high five with my freefly coach. But I've had other things too, like the seagull and the A. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  3. A point is a point, and anyone can miss a point. If the experienced guys wanted perfection, they wouldn't invite the newer jumpers on their jump, they'd make a team. Anyway it IS for fun, and it is a sport, so being a little generous and sportsmanlike goes with it, IMHO. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. 4. How do you think I feel about failing a stupid driving test like some stupid 18 years old? I'm over 30! But seriously: crying won't help. Pull out the super woman that's inside of you and give it all you've got. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! 5. Wow, I get ADMIRATION PM's. No wonder, you look good in your profile picture Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  6. All computers will crash and corrupt your data. The extreme costumer loyality in computer operating systems create a monopoly situation that stops the evolution of them into something better. No matter how safe one makes an operating system, if it reaches a high market share, people will make malicious software for it. As long as you, the user can install software on the operating system, it will be possible to install malicious code on it. Just like it's impossible to create true copy protection for video or music, as long as it can be played, it can be copied. Some operating systems are more user friendly and stable than others. The Windows Fan boys will disagree with me, but the Mac is better than windows. But it will not solve all of your problems. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. 7. 0:0:0 Fall is here and someone turned off the lights. It's like being on the inside of a fridge. But without the food. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  8. This is just a fact of life in skydiving, much like there is generally a planet in the direction in which you fall. People has been talking and talking and talking about how I have a WAY too big canopy and should downsize. I try to buy a new canopy and decide on a size and model that I've tried and like, but my local dealer asks if I want to try an even smaller one. It's like a constant background noise, much like aircraft noise. I choose to not listen to it. It's up to you what you want to do. It can be a good idea to fly in brakes to float above everyone else when you have a very light wingload. That way you will get a clearer pattern and not have to worry about traffic. When I had my Silhouette 150 wingloaded at 0.95:1, I hardly ever had to deal with traffic, I was usually last down if there weren't any students or tandems. You should also be extra caucious when it comes to wind, wind that everyone else can jump in, can make your canopy go backwards. It's completely possible to land safely in a safe area with a canopy that doesn't go through the middle wind, but it is harder than when you have penetration, and you might not want to fly in that kind of wind. 9. You mean only red and yellow? Or ALL of the colors on that website?, that's pretty close to the whole rainbow... Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  10. Out skydiving this summer, I've been to Spain, California and different parts of Norway, I learned to sitfly, I did bigways, people asked ME to organize and plan the jumps (at least small groups), and I jumped out of a plane into the big bowl that is called Romsdal. 205 this year, I feel privileged. More posting again now, probably, as my gear is in for inspection before I sell it, and my new gear hasn't arrived yet.
  11. Well, at least I can gain weight (and lose it again) pretty fast. It just involves opening a zipper! Thank you! Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  12. No canopy course for me! Last time I went to a canopy course, I broke my leg. They're not safe! Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  13. Yes, it is! Sommetimes it is nice pushing yourself too. You will get bored if you do only 2-ways all the time. Just make sure that there is a proper plan and that the people that you are jumping with can take care of themselves. You can have a lot of fun and learn a lot if you jump with two or three experienced jumpers. I'm talking about FS now. True, but it's when you have to adjust your own fallrate and counteract your own backsliding, that you learn. BIG one! I learned that the hard way. And I would see much less scary stuff when people land in the strong and gusty winds if everyone practiced that. Finally, I'm getting comfortable with being up in winds that I don't get through, but that's after 350 jumps. And also, It's supposed to be fun, if you're scared when you're flying your canopy, then it's no fun. Open canopy while looking out for traffic, check canopy, find a safe place to land. Other jumpers will help you if you ask. And if you keep packing, you will get better. Good idea! You don't have to buy beer, just come jump with us when you've become all awesome and national team material. If possible, get to watch while your reserve is packed. You learn alot, and it's good to see for yourself that it's just another parachute. There will be fears and doubts from time to time. This is an extreme sport. But thoughts like "I'm not entirely sure that canopy is sitting properly on my new risers..." should be banished. I hope I see you in Spain this winter, my plans aren't entirely clear, I'm ordering new gear, but I'll see what I can do. I hope there was no other damage to your knees than some scraped off skin. You should have seen my arms before I figured out the flare of my new Pilot.
  14. Hi, my name is Pinkfairy and I'm addicted to skydiving. All the money I make goes to jump tickets, jumpsuits and parachutes. All my available vacation is spent on the dropzone. What drives me is when I have a good jump, I'll just shout out spontaneously with joy when I've opened my canopy. It could happen on my very next jump, so I keep jumping. That's all. Know what you're going to. Relax, you can die if you mess up, but it will probably not be by bullet. I'm a BIG, TOUGH BIGWAY FORMATION SKYDIVER! What are you?
  15. I was very happy with my PD Silhouette. Nice openings, flat glide, and lots and lots of flare. Has the added bonus og being easy to pack. My Sabre never had good openings. It always felt like I was sitting down on a hard chair. But the spectra line set with 400 jumps on it might have been out of trim. You might find a nicer one.
  16. Don't worry about your Smart reserve. It has a good flare and is easy to land. To the OP: You should not have a reserve that you're afraid to use. Worrying about what you have in your container is not good for your performance and enjoyment in freefall, and hesitating about using it is a big safety issue. You COULD probably land a reserve that was significantly smaller than your main, because reserves are easy to handle and low performance, but you want somthing that you feel good about deploying. If you fly a 150 main, you'd have no problems landing a same size reserve. Talk to your local dealer about demoing, or contact manufacturers directly, they have demo reserves that are rigged with a normal deployment system and 3 ring risers so you can put them in a main container and test jump them. 17. Skydiving is not safe, not even static line jumps. Static line jumps have issues that you don't find in freefall skydives. The second and third jumps are usually more scary than the first one because it dawns on you what you are doing. Thinking long and hard about wether you should do a second jump is very likely to scare you away for good. We can't tell you if you should or shouldn't jump, you decide, it's your risk and your responsibility to make that decision. If you don't jump again, try to think about what you learned from your one parachute jump and put it into other contexts, if you keep jumping, then welcome to the world's best sport. 19. You sound normal, I had excactly the same feelings after I broke my leg in a bad landing. I came back, and it was scary, but so worth it. I learned from my incident: it happened when the winds were strong and gusty, and I didn't really have control, so I stopped jumping in winds that I'm unsure about. I've also concentrated on learning to land where I want, and I've avoided many hairy situations by improving my canopy control overall. I'm sure I became a better and safer skydiver because I broke my leg. And I've had lots of fun too, which is the whole point of jumping out of airplanes in the first place. Your call if you want to come back or not, but your feelings are not unique. Make sure you get to see friends and family and not get depressed and isolated while your leg heals. I know how it can be. Take care and heal fast!
  20. You sound completely normal. It will help to do more jumps in one day, if you go home between jumps when you only have very little experience, then you'll start thinking too much about all the things that could go wrong, and that will only make you more nerveous. It's normal that the second and third jumps are scarier than the first one, as you know what you're going to do. The first one is like "I'm going to jump out of an airplane, Wow, I'm crazy, haha!", the next ones are more like "OMG, I actually DID jump out of an airplane for real and survived, now I'm gonna do it again, what if I'm not so lucky this time?" If you're worried that you might be unsafe, talk to your instructors. The "door monster" takes some time to get rid of, it certainly did for me. 21. What about having a look at other brands than Vector? Have a look at these: http://www.flyaerodyne.com/fly/products/iconSizes.asp The I5 fits your specifications, and the Smart is a really good reserve. 22. Tunnel time is worth it: you'll improve your freefall skills immensely, and when you start jumping with other people, it will show, and you'll be glad you learned to do it correctly the first time, so you don't have to unlearn bad habits. But: It won't help your tracking, altitude awareness or canopy flying skills. Remember that when you get out there to show off your kick ass flying skills: you are still a beginner (So am I even if I have 290 jumps, BTW). And: I think you should consider at least 1 hour to get some repetition and consistency in your training. And get a good coach.
