  1. Yes, it affects their business since people can't get to the location! (At least lately.)
  2. I think was you are referring to is Bill Booth's law #2. "The safer skydiving gear becomes, the more chances skydivers will take, in order to keep the fatality rate constant." It has been this way since we were jumping modified C-9 canopies as a main and a 24' twill as a reserve. I suspect it will continue as long as there is testosterone. Sparky The more things change, the more the stay the same.
  3. Rick's info and guide are great, however it is outdated. The most helpful part is knowing the "Bottom end" sequence. Check with your local AFFCD and speak to others that have recently gone through the course. I had around 500 jumps when I went through Jay Stokes' course 2 years ago. If anything, get lots of practice in the air and do not stress when you get to the course. ...and have fun.
  4. No, but their on-the-job fatality rate is low. I do not know of any amusement ride operators willing to risk their lives for other people's enjoyment. No one forces tandem passengers. They may tip if they want to. It may surprise you, but some "tippees" spend that money on beer or pizza to share with other dz employees; even personally delivering the goods.
  5. Transferring from the Navy to the Army is considered treasonous.
  6. Always the postive one. Still pounding your chest? You can run your school the way you want to, while we will operate under guidelines to promote safety and fun. Do you have a problem with other AFFI's opinions? Several "experts" have read your posts and laughed, many with 4 times the number of jumps that you have. As far as being fuckwits, you should look in the mirror. Get a life.
  7. I doubt that USPA would give a shit if there is another instructor or not. There are plenty of qualified instructors so there is no need to log.
  8. ....it was also nice to see footage of Adria in the plane.
  9. Dave, In the 54 AFF FJCs I taught this year there were two students who didn't get it. I recommended training tandems for both. One I took on a Cat. A tandem. After his toilet seat exit I pitched the drogue. He waited a long time to do a COA, then started looking around. I gave him the practice pull signal and he deployed us around 9 grand. After I checked the canopy I gave him the toggles to do it himself. It was challenging if anything, then he threw up. He was the only student in that 4 hour FJC. The other guy's class had 3 students and he was the only one that did the training tandem under my recommendation. The instructor that took him up reported that he should take up bowling. The other two are now on Cat. E jumps. How did I screw up?
  10. You must not be checking the website...
  11. Yeah. That's lame. No sky pics and no party pics. WTF? i think the picture dude just put up pics from friday morning and thats it. mark said he was gonna put more up soon, but that was a long time ago, so who knows. Nope. He said that more were supposed to be posted. See, most of the photogs are not dz staff and must be hunted down so that they can submit their pics. I'll check into it again.
  12. Kolla! Happy bday (again)!
  13. You must not have been there lately. I've taken students there in the mornings typically between 9 & 11.
  14. Better update your profile then...
  15. When the wind from the cooler reaches me.
  16. ...and don't forget the First Team Social now rescheduled for 11 December!
  17. What gets me is that some people treat rental gear like they do rental cars.
  18. Nope, took me a couple of sessions. I'm a better bootie flyer than I am back flyer, too.
  19. I would hope that somebody with 5 minutes of tunnel time would be embarrassed to offer tunnel advice. Besides 100 hrs TT would equate to 6,000+ skydives. Sounds like a professional or someone who's been around and has most likely taken advantage of the tunnel. Skydivers should know when and who to offer advice to. If someone wants to give advice that's fine. The drills you mention would be better addressed by an instructor or tunnel coach which many ADV 4 way competitors are. Would it be better to provide tunnel time under your avatar, or on your profile page? If everyone feels it's important to advertise their tunnel time you can petition Sangiro. People will offer advice whether they are qualified or not, however I see most just want to share their experience. I see it all the time in S&T. If somebody wants to have credibility, become a coach.
  20. No it didn't occur to me that sit flying or any flying is different in the tunnel. I gave an opinion, and you took that as showing an attitude. I guess you don't get it. You should check your own attitude. This is an Internet forum and anyone seeking any reputable advice would speak directly to a tunnel coach or their instructors. I would hope that my 24 hours of freefall experience and 450 AFF jumps would be enough for you, but may be my 8 hours of tunnel isn't. My intent was not to offend you but whether you ask or not an opinion may be given.
  21. I disagree and it's meaningless. I have a fraction of the tunnel time SM1 does, but that doesn't mean my advice is useless, does it? I still get coaching in there especially for FS stuff, but I bring AFF students in there all the time. Jump numbers and years in the sport are a better indicators. I'd like to see freefall time and/or ratings.
