  1. Westcoasters should take advantage of this!!!! There's been a lot of positive talk from the FL people attending Scott Miller's course, and now we have him here in SoCal! Current World Cup Champion and Distance record holder JT will also be providing coaching. All canopy pilots should take advantage of this!
  2. Nothing, but it's usually received in the form of a monetary tip.
  3. Your generalizing. Not my DZ nor any SoCal DZ that I know about. If there are that many AFFIs out there we'd have over 20 on the weekend. If an old school AFFI wants to give it up, that's his/her right. Find another DZ, or quit and get into another sport. If they quit because of a pay schedule commensurate with newbies, then they are losers. In this case nobody benefits.
  4. That's UNSAT!!!! Would this new AFFI be able to rollover a real student without having a satisfactory rollover with an evaluator? I've rolled over several, some of which reminded me of my evaluator Jay Stokes.
  5. Include yourself in both catagories; resident hottie, skydiver.
  6. I haven't used it yet, nor even seen them. I wouldn't recommend it for AFF since there is a lot of stuff going on. How many relax signals do you give during a jump?! Then again, some people are visual, while some are aural. For post-AFF coach jumps it might be a better option, since they have probably gained some confidence and are more relaxed.
  7. It is a fact that USPA lowered the standards to become an AFFI and there are AFFI's out there that would not have passed the old course. I know of an AFFI that failed the old course twice, then passed the new course. He was't even in the video of an AFF level 1 I saw. That being said, there are AFFI's passing the course today that would have smoked the old course. The lowering of the standards isn't the AFFI's fault, it's USPA's and the member's for letting USPA (DZO's) do it. But yes, because of the lower standards, new minted AFFI's are suspect in my eyes until they prove different. Not their fault, theypassed the course they were given, but it is still an easier course. Derek I concur. Conversely, those passing under the old school doesn't necessarily mean that they are better, either. I've seen many an old school JM not able to fly their slot on FS jumps. You cannot judge anyone by when their rating was obtained. Again, we'll find out in the air.
  8. Hi Ed, The post wasn't necessarily directed to you, but most of the guys that went through the old course tend to penalize those that have earned the rating in the new course. "The rating requirements were watered down, therefore their flying abilities are substandard." The quote seems to be a blanket statement or opinion by some people. Peace, out.
  9. Unfortunatly I must agree. Some DZs haven't. Those skydivers with their new ticket must also find employment. Before that they would check references and/or resume including number of instructional jumps. So now that USPA has lowered standards to become an AFFI, how does one prove their skills? Should I feel any less skillful than one whom earned their rating under the old method? BTW, congratulations, Sally!
  10. You may want to make a personal visit to Bonehead composites the next time you are in town. Afterwards your outlook may be different.
  11. 538 but only 537 counted the last one was out of time. Any less then 500 and you are a wossy. Sparky We are both wrong. It was 534 jumps. 534 in 24, 535 in 24:01.
  12. Congratulations! It was a long road, but you earned it! (Shoulda posted this to your Level 8 thread)
  13. What about the Mullin's plane and WTS' HALO jumps?
  14. Does that include Tandem instructors?
  15. Not having much fun during them rainy days, huh?!
  16. Skylord, There's a possibility that you will be jumping your pack job when we do your Level 8. That being the case, (pun intended) you will owe 2 cases of . Then we'll take your mug shot and post your grill on the wall. Shark out.
  17. Yeah, she told me. I thought she should have won.
