Balboa Park is great with all the museums(cars, air and space, natural history... Not sure if it still happens, but every Tuesday one museum is free. Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is there also. Cool exhibits with Imax theatre. Hotel Del Coronado has great beach with fun history/photos of the area. Lots of movies made there. Seaport Village is a tourist trap in downtown. But it is a nice place to see the bay. Night life in the gaslamp district is a hoot. Great food and clubs. Can be pricey. Visit my Auntie in Chula Juana. She loves to have people stop by and chat. Brian Germain has a way of packing the PC that in case of a premature deployment, the bridle pulls the PC out instead of bunching it in the BOC. It is pretty clear on his site. About 6 years old in San Diego. End of spring when the wild grass was real tall and slick. We would grab a big refrigerator box, pile on and go sliding down the hill at this ravine by the freeway. What really pisses me off is the person who has been waiting in line at the register while the clerk is ringing up their food/stuff. Instead of having wallet out and ready to pay, or god forbid their CHECKBOOK(stop, breathe, relax, think about puppy dogs. OK, much better), they act surprised and fumble around in a purse the size of a 100# sack of grain and wonder everybody behind them in line has that look of contempt on their face. Peder, I'm a newbie, and so far, I have had my reserve out twice. I have a Sabre 170 and PDR 176 at about the same WL on the main. I like the fact I have a bigger reserve then main for all the reasons listed above(other then the dive loops). I want to choose when I downsize, not when forced to, low to the ground, with no previous experience on the canopy. You might be jumping at a DZ with a large landing area with great outs, but when you start traveling, that might not be the case. There are lots of used containers out there that fit our size which would hold a larger reserve. Before I bought my used rig, I asked my rigger, S&TA, and several instructors that jumped with me to make sure it was appropriate for my skill level. I even waited for a while after I got it to gain jump experience before I jumped it. No hurry. Ask those that know your skills for advice. Mine is worth what you paid for it. I got some tunnel time between level 4 and 5. It was very helpful. It is pricey, but it most likely saved me repeating a level or two. It really helps you isolate little flaws in body position because of the reference you have in the smaller area in the tunnel. I was always dropping a shoulder during my pull. The first minute in the tunnel fixed that. Having the coach right there in front of you to identify any issues and give corrections while still in the airflow instead of on the ground is fantastic. My arch definitely improved as well. After I got back, my AFF-I said he could see the difference. Being more comfortable in the air, I felt more confident that I could complete each diveflow before I ran out of time. It actually made me more altitude aware because I felt I had the time to look at my alti. I learned the hard way that you can always lose aa. Hey PG, I blew it on my last jump. Pulled low and scared the hell out of the people who saw what happened. I owe each one of them beer. The rest of the folks at the DZ took their turn to tell me to NEVER do that again, then asked if I wanted to go up on the next load. If you landed safe, it was a successful skydive. Just like nbblood said, take responsibility, ask for suggestions to learn how to improve and keep jumping. From what little experience I have, a canopy doesn't normally stall with brakes set. What tiny bit I remember from physics was once a body is in motion, it wants to stay going the same direction. I steered my main GENTLY to keep the reserve playing follow the leader with the main. With my biplane, the main with the brakes out and reserve with brakes set, the canopy was stable. I don't want to think about how two different canopies(9 cell main and 7 cell reserve) both with brakes released would react.
