It all depends on the size of the deck. I'd go to a big box lumber yard which will have the Sunset Books guide to decks. They have lots of pictures, and you can get a material list and the prices for the materials while you are there. Yep, I jinxed myself. I talked a friend into doing a tandem on the same load as me doing my first solo(beer) jump off of AFF. The TM was also my AFFI on my first jump. I admitted it was my first solo jump and he called beer. He jokingly said why not have your first chop and save on the beer. We all laughed and the lump in my stomach got that much bigger. I was nervous enough, got ready, did my EPs and out the door I went. It was just remarkable how much time you have when you don't have to worry about the AFF dive flow. So I just just fall and enjoy the view. I pitch about 5k. But now the gremlin in my brain wakes up. I'm in the saddle doing my controllability check. The canopy was square, but It just didn't look right. The toggles just didn't seem to be doing anything. I'm at 4K and have plenty of time to figure this out (as was told to me AFTER I am on the ground). Didn't know about riser turns yet. So the voice of the friend who encouraged me into jumping pops into my brain. "When in doubt, CHOP." I chop and the RSL has me under that big beautiful reserve in a heart beat. This one steers just fine. Plenty of time to think about my landing. The wind is blowing opposite normal, So I have to think about what my pattern should be. End up with a soft stand up landing. One of the hang gliger pilots near by tracks down the freebag for me. Somehow I managed to not lose the pillow either. My friend who had her tandem loved her jump and saw the whole thing. I helped out with something like this before. We taped the tube to a piece of cardboard laying flat. Just stand it up and drop the marble in. It is very easy to adjust the shape and slope of the track. The only concerns are where the loop crosses over itself and to make sure you don't make the loop so tight that you compress the tube out of round. Either buy the tube bit larger then the marble or make a nice smooth loop. I agree to have the loop first and then the hills. Takes the most speed to get through the loop. It is stable and easy to carry, just takes a couple end supports taped on the back that get turned 90 degrees and the thing stands up by itself. Is three AFF jumps a day too much? Like you will hear a lot on this site, ask your instructor. They know how you have progressed and if making three is the best for you. Now for my $.02 worth. I did three AFF jumps in one day for levels 2-4 and was sore for days. I was as flat as an ironing board and unstable so much that I was always trying to recover. I think the soreness was due more to the fact that I had a poor arch and I was using muscles that I normally didn't use. If after two jumps and you still feel OK, go for another after talking to your instructor. Your jumps and AFFI's critiques are fresh in your head and you still have that body feel from the previous jump. After you get more time being in the air, the stress goes down, those muscles get stronger and you get the feel, so you don't work as hard. Most important, it is not a race, be safe and have fun. I got some tunnel time after third jump. I could have used it earlier. Any repeated levels more then pays for a good chunk of tunnel time and the staff is right in front of you to tell you how to improve. The video they shoot is great to see what went well and what to change. Once you know the feeling of good body position, it makes the dive flows for AFF much easier.
